Alright, those few on here who know me personally know that I am a water nut. swimming, scuba diving, boating, i do it all. For all of last year I have been a swimming instructor doing lessons and for most of this year I have been lifeguarding as well. I have also just finshed my final year in school and the question thats starting to float around finally is, what are you going to do in university? And I have no answer to it. No other profesion has really interested me besides aquatics and all of the aquatics coursses are taught out of the school system. Only basic first aid and chemistry are actually needed to work in these profesions and recently my parents and family have started to try and convince me to go university and i just need some outside input. Should I go to university? I can't really see myself in another career besides aquatics and because all the actual courses that are needed arn't taught through the school system university is not actually a must. If you do think that i should go to university do you know of any courses that i would like or would help me based on the info i have given?

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

You should go to university - it's about learning and growing, not about preparing yourself for a job. I can't say what specific course you should do as I don't know anything about you. University is great anyway.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

Could go to a school that teaches marine biology or something. At least it would be interesting. Plus, college can help you get a perspective on life that you wouldn't have just out of high school.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

You could always go into marine biology, that has to do with water, sort of.

I was going to suggest Marine Bio as well.

Do what you love doing. You don't need a university degree for everything in life.

Well, I know the Assiniboine College in Brandon has some programs that include a boating course. It's something you could get outside of school, but just thought I'd throw that out there. I noticed it was on the program description for the Land & Water Management program I plan to take at Assiniboine either this or next Fall. I'll be staying at the Brandon University, though. Heck, you can be my roommate. Lol.

It might be difficult to find much of a marine biology course in Manitoba, though. Skipping province might be what you need to do. Just be sure to check things out in Manitoba, first.

I don't know much about aquatic sports, but I imagine that there are lots of other disciplines that are involved that you might find potentially useful to know about. For example, one day you might want to set up your own swimming school, so do you know anything about business and entrepreneurship? People have already suggested marine biology which might be useful for scuba diving if you wanted to be an instructor. Then there are things like materials science to create swimming costumes, probably fluid dynamics and things like that for swimming technique, engineering to create efficient boats, or both to design cool water slides. Management if you wanted to run a large aquatic venue. If you wanted to teach Olympic athletes then it might be useful to know something about sport psychology. Orthopaedics to provide therapy for people who get injured, possibly even chemistry to keep pools clean and all that.

It's about educating yourself to the next level, to have that little extra specialism that makes you... special. Without all those knowledgeable people you probably wouldn't be doing many of the aquatic things that you're doing, so open your eyes to all the other people involved. As you yourself have proved, a highschool student can get a swimming instructor qualification, and you don't want to be competing with highschool students for the rest of your life.

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

i'm not into buisness and engineering so i don't really have much interest in running or creating my own pool. and you really only need basic chem for maintaining a pool but the sport psychology and orthopaedics seem to be interesting from what i've looked up so far, i might go for those. thanks for the input.

I would definitely advise going to university, even if the courses are totally unrelated, it is a big plus if you're trying to get any job, also, you may find the courses you take broaden your interest. I personally don't know what exactly I want to do yet, but with good qualifications, it allows you to be flexible and change a bit more to suit new interests.

Sorry if you don't agree with my opinion, just trying to help ::'

Also, remember to aim for a job you enjoy, having fun 5 days a week and getting paid for it beats doing something you don't enjoy for a bit of extra cash. \'

Fixed.

Anyway, I think you should go to University. Always good to learn and have new perspectives. Even if the degree is useless in the end - you can still have something.
