To skip, or not to skip?

Featured Replies

Ok, im currently at 258 points and i need 300 to make broad bolts. my current task is 58 steel dragons, and my last task of irons took an hour and a half. so would it be worth it to spend the 30 points to skip?

Ugh, I hate this sort of dilemma. Who can say what the sadistic slayer master will give you instead? And over the next 32 assignments, no less.

If it were me, I think I would bite the bullet and do the assignment rather than spend the points when you are so close to the goal.

ya but would i be able to complete 2 tasks in the probably 2+ hours it would take for the dragons?

I would block them unless you have 4 other tasks already blocked that you hate more; in that case, cancel it. You could finish two other tasks at least in that time.
well that would cost me 100 points...i would rather just spend the 30 right now

at your level... skip, and switch to summona.

I think you'd save a lot more time in the long run by skipping them. Steel drag tasks take a long time since they spawn in between groups of irons. If you camped right next to 1 steel respawn you might be fine, but if you keep running to the other spawn spots you'll keep regaining aggro from the irons and they'll hit you before you can get the steel's attention. I don't know if that made sense or not, but either way, steel tasks take a long time and I think you're best off skipping this one.

block steels you will thank yourself when u get the 75 steel task 30-40 is bad enough since there is what 5-6 spawns there and you have to fight for them

Figure that the average slayer task takes 30-40 minutes. So the 2 tasks required to compensate you would take 160 minutes maximum. That's about the same time it took you to kill that iron dragon task. Steels would be even slower, or maybe quicker if you weren't assigned many.

But that would mean that you'd only be getting 1 task of xp, while you could be getting 2 tasks of xp. You're giving up a ton of xp and for what? A terrible monster to kill with elusive and worthless drops (bar visage, which is extremely rare).

Plus who wants to kill the same monster for 2 hours when you know that you have a different option?

Skip.

and fyi at least for me shilo seems to love to give dragon tasks i get dragons 85% of the time

Agreed.

To be honest, you should only buy the other things available from slayer masters (Slayer rings, Broad bolts etc etc) when you have blocked all the tasks that "should" be blocked (dependent on preference). The only exception is the slayer helm.

But with 68 Quest points you are kind of stuck here as well.

I think steels should be your blocked task and cancel any others. That's just my opinion. Maybe a lower slayer master would be more beneficial.

Apparently, my signature was to big.

Just for your information, here's a list of the max (or near max) slayer xp/hr of all of Duradel's tasks

Dagannoths: 80k

Bloodvelds: 56k (up to 59k with Steel Titan)

Warped Terrorbirds: 51k

Scabarites: 50k

Suqahs: 50k

Aberrant Spectres: 46k (up to 48k with Steel Titan)

Black Demons (range or halberd + cannon): 40k

Goraks: 37k

Kalphites: 36k

Fire Giants (melee + cannon): 35k

Dark Beasts: 36k (1k to 2k less if you need to do 2 trips)

Dust Devils: 28k (up to 33k with Steel Titan)

Spiritual Mages: 25k (up to 27k with Steel Titan)

Abyssal Demons: 25k

Gargoyles: 25k

Skeletal Wyverns: 24k (1k to 2k less if you have to do 2 trips)

Nechryaels: 24k (up to 27k with Steel Titan)

Waterfiends: 23k (up to 26k with Steel Titan)

Black Dragons: 23k (baby black dragons)

Hellhounds: 22k (1k to 5k more if you pick up fewer charms)

Greater Demons: 21k

Iron Dragons: 17k (up to 19k if you have dragon slayer gloves)

Steel Dragons: 14k

Mithril Dragons: 9k

Steels are the SECOND WORST TASK (after Mithril dragons, which aren't nearly as bad as they seem since you only get 4-7 at a time).

Those numbers, btw, are assuming maxed stats and the best possible items/methods available in the game. That means piety/super sets/etc.

Block there a bad task and you'll only end up wasting more points skipping them later on.

What something that hasn't been mention is what task are you on? If you're close to a 10th task you're bound to get some extra points. Even more if its a 50th task. So keep that in mind as well.

Never duradel/lapalok unless 1) you are on your 10th task 2) you are really high level.

The extra 3 points per task isnt worth for the points to ban/extra time with tough monsters.

Btw, 300 points = 8.5 runes reward = 87500*8.5 = 743.75k gp = 553 magic logs

Not true.

You see that the worst of the tasks are assigned by Sumona as well (with the only exception being miths) and the tasks that Sumona doesn't assign are all very rewarding and shouldn't be blocked/skipped. Miths are also a fast task, so there's no point is spending points to skip or block those.

The idea that Duradel is a hard task is a total misconception. Slow tasks are shared by the two masters and Duradel assigns MORE tasks that are FASTER. You don't even need to be a high level to use Duradel. It's always worth it to switch at the minimum level (unless you got over 10 levels from Summoning, in which case you may want to wait a little, regardless, you should be at Duradel by the time you're 100 f2p combat).

The above rates are not very achievable by your normal rs player. Quite achievceable by the more hardcore crowd.

however it does speak the truth of how to slay. Duradel soon as you can, block the correct tasks, use the efficient training methods. Use a cannon, use a combat familar etc. Be quick on getting new tasks.

In reguards to this original post, broad bolts after yesterdays update, are probly hard to make in mass

The above rates are not very achievable by your normal rs player. Quite achievceable by the more hardcore crowd.

Of course. Those rates are with max stats with the best gear, best familiar possible (fighter or healer) and praying piety for the whole task, with task changing/banking always taking less than 3-4 minutes. That's achieveable, but for most of RS players, not possible.

However, I gave them to be a rough outline. Sure if you are only 80/80/80, you can't get 14k per hour at steel dragons, but you definitely won't have steel dragons faster than irons, right? While the numbers aren't the same, the task's general location on the list is still the game.

So while you won't get 23k per hour at Waterfiends, you know they'll still be slower than Dust Devils, for example.

Good point. Most ratios stay the same
