The Ultimate "What To Buy?" Dilemma

Featured Replies

Here we go

First, Did I spell Dilemma right? is it Dilemna? I don't know...

Second, BASICALLY, I have 2.8m right now in my bank. My best money maker (I think) is making law runes through the abyss, I need 1 more level to make double cosmics. Currently I am doing slayer so my cash is slowly adding up as I do it, plus I am getting a pretty decent amount of charms.

My problem, of course, is what to do with this money. Basically there are three things I really want, but I don't know which one to buy first.

1. Amulet of Fury (MUCH better than my Amulet of Glory.)

2. Dragon Chainbody (Better than my rune platebody, but still not the greatest. Maybe torags instead?)

3. Saradomin Sword. I am FAR from this (About 5m off?) but it would be really useful for strength training.

I guess I am just looking for a way to increase my slayer speed, without buying a cannon.

What are your opinions on these items? Which do you recommend I buy first? Do you think some of these items will drop/rise in price in the near future?

I suck at making my own decisions

Also, buyable skills.

The three buyable skills that really intrigue me are Magic(61), Summoning(36), and Construction(32).

Would it be better to get Magic up to 70ish (Maybe 77 for Superglass make?) or Summoning to 40,57,68?(Bull ant, Spirit Terrorbird, Bunyip)

If I had to choose, I'd say number one. Saradomin Sword = Poor Man's God Sword. Can you train controlled with a Whip? That'd be a better choice than any of these.

Tbh Sara Sword > GS. When it comes to str training the SS is the best out there.

If you are training Str then the SS would be great to invest in. Until then you can use a D Scimmy + Rune Def for cheap.

Torags is much better then the Chain and is much cheaper.

That leaves the Fury. The best amulet in the game for overall training. It is worth the price. And unless Jagex does something it will most liekly not crash in price.

Get Torag's armor first, then a fury. After this, a sara sword is just a luxury; a scimitar and defender will function fairly well, espescially with the bonus of a black mask.

I'd sooner level up said skills than buy a sara sword. Skills are really important, so don't neglect levelling them.

Dragon chain is trash and SS is trash as well, since the Obby sword + zerker is pretty much the same and a far lower cost.

So fury out of your 3 options.

But in reality, neither. You don't have enough money to justify spending it all on a fury. You'd gain MUCH more time by simply cannoning.

A lot of people feel that the cannon is more rich people only. I have no idea where this conception came from, because it is totally false. Even the poorer players can afford to run a cannon.

I suggest using the cannon on all tasks where you are allowed to set up a cannon except perhaps Steel Dragons, Iron Dragons, and Greater Demons. It is not worth it to make your own cannonballs unless you are a beginning player who is making your first million gp and want to get smithing up a bit. If that description fits you, you shouldn't be using this slayer guide. If someone is making cannonballs, they are valuing their time so low that it is not nearly worth it to use the cannonballs! Therefore, I recommend you buy all your cannonballs on the Grand Exchange.

Remember that cannons decay after 25 minutes and you get the "almost decayed" message at 20 minutes. Pick up and place your cannon in the same spot to reset the decay time; do this every time you see the "almost decayed" message.

Of course, sometimes you will accidently let your cannon decay. You can reclaim it for free from Nulodion at the Dwarven Mines entrance near Ice Mountain. Leave the task unless you are very close to being done. To get to Nulodion super fast, use Spellbook Swap and cast Lassar Teleport which puts you on Ice Mountain; or just run there from Edgeville but that's a bit slower.

Cannons are useful as they hardly add any time, but you get about 24k range xp and 12k slayer xp for 1k cannonballs, worth 190k. With a 1M per hour value of time, that is equivalent to 11.4 minutes of time. To be safe, I'll assume that firing 1k cannonballs takes 2.5 minutes away from your ranging or meleeing. Using these numbers, using a cannon is equivalent to getting 104k range xp and 52k slayer xp per hour at no cost. As I find that very fast I consider the cannon worth it.

If you only value time at 500k per hour, the cannon is still worth it because it will be equivalent to about 57k range xp and 28k slayer xp per hour.

At time valued at 300k per hour the cannon would not be worth it, but really, it just saves so much time, and I think nearly all good slayers should be value their time at over 300k per hour. Killing Spiritual Mages (83 slayer) for Dragon boots makes more than that, plus you get xp.

Now, a note about the whole "cannon noob" thing and moral issues involved here- Personally I see the cannon as no more than an extension of one's combat ability. If someone is complaining about you using a cannon and taking kills, why aren't they complaining about you using super sets, or a whip instead of a bronze warhammer, which also will let you take more kills? Everyone has the right to increase their combat ability and compete with others as much as they want.

Also by no means do I necessarily recommend going in and setting up a cannon regardless of who is there. In many cases, it is more efficient for you, the cannoner, to switch worlds until you find an empty world; an example of that would be Kalphite Soldiers.

Cannonballs are expensive, so the combat advantage they give is well-deserved and should be respected.

Basically if you know how to kill Aviansies or Green dragons, you can afford to run a cannon.

Also, I've found that despite cannoning as much as possible during my slayer tasks, I still profit. So if you're trying to slay faster, not being "able" to afford a cannon is no excuse, because you can.

Buy up your summoning and construction.

Fury/dragon chain/ss are all luxury items, many others function perfectly without them.

Thanks for the help, I think Im going to buy torags and cannon a few tasks, just to try it out.

I should only cannon tasks in a multi combat zone right?

Yup.

Edit: Now that I think of it. Some tasks you might cannon in single combat to make it a bit faster.

Na, it's more like the dumb man's whip. SS is not applicable where the GS is, and vice-versa. Just get a whip, barrows, and a fury when you can. Dragon is garbage.

If you use it correctly, you can "make" some single combat zones multi combat, ranging fire giants and black demons are an example.
