October 15, 200520 yr Uruguay will plead with FIFA to have the date for its World Cup qualifier first leg against the Socceroos moved forward a day. Uruguayan Football Association president Eugenio Figueredo told Reuters he wants the date of the first leg in Montevideo changed from November 12 to November 11 to give both sides more time to recover ahead of the second leg in Sydney on November 16. With Uruguay 13 hours behind Australian daylight saving time and approximately a 16-hour flight to Sydney, the current timing gives both teams less than three days to acclimatise ahead of the second leg. Football Federation Australia had been told as late as last month by FIFA that the November 12 and 16 dates were set in stone and would not be changed regardless of who hosted the first leg. Can the Aussies get thru, Go Australia !!! I3il2die: aka: BiRDiEAn Are Sole: Pure Def/Skiller...
October 15, 200520 yr Australia play football? :? Hmm you learn a new thing everyday. Out of every single World Cup I don't think I've seen Australia even being mentioned. Not even in the qualifiers. :| Notoriously Trollish.

October 15, 200520 yr Oh re-match. I remember Uruguay beat Australia to qualify World Cup final a few years ago in SAME play-off style. This time is revenge for Australia!
October 15, 200520 yr Australia will have to play well to beat Uruguay. They have the south american style most of us envy.
October 15, 200520 yr Oh so you're actually playing at home this time :P Down under not Up over! I think you have a good chance and may the best team win. Of course, next time you'll be in the Asia qualifying group...so there'd be no need for these 'silly play offs' :| This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
October 15, 200520 yr I'm still inclined to believe Australia will have an oppurtunity but choke horribly and forgo another world cup.

Australia's chances at the moment are as good as ever. It doesn't matter on the coach, you do know that, yes? It's the 11 people on the field which do the job and I believe that with no matter what coach Aus have Urugauy would always win. They just have better choice of players.
October 15, 200520 yr You better watch yer step there, Phil. :P I think the Australian to Uruguay ratio on these forums is 1000:1 ;) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

South-Korea didn't have that many good players, and look how far Guus Hiddink brought them in the World Championship last time.
October 15, 200520 yr You better watch yer step there, Phil. :P I think the Australian to Uruguay ratio on these forums is 1000:1 ;) No offence to the Australian people. I believe Uruguay is better than a lot of countries at football. :P

South-Korea didn't have that many good players, and look how far Guus Hiddink brought them in the World Championship last time. South Korea played most if not all their games on home soil. Their crowd was behind them 100% (they were football mad) and they had very humid weather that they were used to. A lot of the countries weren't. Also I'm not saying Hiddink isn't a good manager, but I think South Korea is a much better team than Austrailia (and again I think S. Korea are better than a lot of countries.)

Yes I agree anything can happen on the day. But the score versus Argentina just goes to show you how good they can be. You also have to remember that Argentina had also already qualified, so might not have put their full effort into the game. I hope Australia do well as I'd like to see them perform at the world cup, but I wouldn't mind seeing Uruguay playing also. I'm neutral on who I want to win.

October 16, 200520 yr Clicky. Uruguay on spot 25, Australia on 50. See, it's not that bad! The Netherlands number 2, woot.
October 16, 200520 yr Australia may have better chances, and a good coach, but that doesn't change the fact that most of the squad suck. if our boys like emerton, viduka play to there potential then we are in with a chance, harry kewell really stuffed us up at the last world cup. we do have a chance to make the world cup, GO AUSTRALIA Started new account: flipflop v2
October 16, 200520 yr Clicky. Uruguay on spot 25, Australia on 50. See, it's not that bad! The Netherlands number 2, woot. Those positions are worked out on the games that the nations played. I'm not sure on who Australia have played but Uruguay have had to play Argentina, Brazil and a lot of other class S. American nations. The FIFA rankings shouldn't be used to to see which nations are better, because they are way out.
