Kaida23
That boy's gotta learn to stop swinging his lumber before he hurts someone. Pretty much. He knows that this is hockey and not baseball, right? 1 Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually... obfuscator
I was fine with both suspensions....First whack was understandable from kessel but second definitely went too far even considering the circumstances. Blyaunte
I was fine with both suspensions....First whack was understandable from kessel but second definitely went too far even considering the circumstances. While, I can somewhat understand the initial reaction of striking out irrationally with whatever item you have at hand, when someone who is approximately one foot taller and 80 pounds heavier than you suddenly jumps you, I still cringe every time I watch "modern" hockey players swing their sticks in the manner in which Kessel swung his the other night - and in the previous game against Philly. There is simply no justification for that. It needs to be stopped. It's a habit they need to get out of ...
Mr_Muto
Agreed. Maybe Shanaban will take someone and make an example out of them and give them a massive suspension. We've already seen I think 6 or 7 and the season hasn't even started yet. Actually here you go. Total Suspensions: 7 - 4 including only preseason games Total games suspended: 25 regular season and 16 preseason games Total salary forfeited: $329,359.00 Definitely not enough to scare any player into not doing something like that again. Blyaunte
8 mill a year for 8 seasons for Phil Kessel? Well, I can now safely predict the Leafs won't win a Cup till at least 2022.
unkn0wnwarrior
At least they have the equivalent of most of his raise coming off the books next year. They'll finally stop having to pay Tucker and Armstrong ($1 million each) and Scrivens and Frattin's retained salaries will be gone (total of $500k.) Besides, if the Leafs didn't do it, somebody else would have. Agreed it was too much, though.
obfuscator
8mil is pretty much the going rate for scorers of his calibre. It's the term I don't like so much, not the cap hit. Mr_Muto
Yeah, if Toronto didn't pay him the 8M a season, someone else would have. But I also agree I'm not a fan of long term contracts, personally I think they should max at 5 years and not at 8. The player has a bad couple of years during the first half of the contract and the team gets impatient and just buys them out. Similar to what happened to Lecavilier and Bryzgalov. On another note, watching the game between Leafs and Senators atm and I have to say I am really surprised with how much chemistry the Bolland/Raymond/Brodie line has had so far. I'm also looking forward to the Oilers/Canucks game after this one. I'm willing to bet there will be some goons out there after what Eager had said earlier in the week saying Edmonton was going to target Vancouver's skilled players after the Gagner incident. unkn0wnwarrior
Well, by too much I didn't mean just the money. I have never liked contracts over 5 years. Also, Leafs are 3-0-0 to start the year. I can honestly say I didn't see that one coming.
obfuscator
Hot start means nothing. They started 4-0 the year of the epic collapse under wilson. But of course wins are better than losses, but they need to improve their defensive play (as usual) "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
unkn0wnwarrior
I agree it means nothing. But who can honestly say they thought it would happen? Especially considering how they've played, which is to say, not well.
Mr_Muto
Speaking of hot starts, I'm surprised to see Calgary win and play as well as they have been.

unkn0wnwarrior
I won't deny it. I laughed at that. I was pleasantly surprised (for lack of a better term) that he let the goal go to Raymond. It reminds me of Sundin when they tried to credit him with an assist he didn't earn and he argued about it.
Mr_Muto
Lol. Very scary to see 2 similar plays happen to both Kronwall and Boyle. Lapierre got 5 games for his hit and McLeod has an in person hearing to determine his fate. I was very surprised to see Lapierre only get 5 games for it. I hope Boyle and Kronwall are both back healthy soon.
obfuscator
so, the leafs are first in the east "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
unkn0wnwarrior
Kessel is tied for second in points and 3rd in goals and both goalies are in the top 10 for save percentage (Reimer 2nd with .949 and Bernier t-7th with .933). Not to mention, in a strange twist, Phaneuf tied for 4th in +/-. Also, former Leaf Steen leading in goals. And they finally beat a "C" team!
