29-Oct-2009 - RuneScape Cards in the UK

Featured Replies

We are pleased to announce that we have launched the RuneScape membership pre-pay card in Sainsburys stores throughout the United Kingdom. The card comes in two versions: 30 days' subscription for £4.99 and 90 days' subscription for £12.99.

Once you have purchased your card, you can use the PIN number on the back to subscribe to RuneScape. Click here to find out how.

These cards are also available in the United States, and they can be found in branches of Target, 7-Eleven, Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid. We are hoping to launch these convenient cards in more countries in the future, so keep an eye on Recent News for updates.

Doesn't affect me, but looks great.

But, no matter what they do, they'll always get stupid idiots criticizing them.

When you go feather dragon god, you never go back.

Not much discussion value here

Doesn't need discussion value if it's an update.

Pretty good, I would have used them if I wasn't old enough for a debit card nowadays :P Tbh I find it annoying that the cards are £1.50 more than the credit/debit card cost, it's the same with Text message payments. I hope this gives more of us Brits a chance to be members now

I imagine it's because they have to pay the stores to stock the cards (and manufacture them), and they have to pay the phone providers to provide the text service. Anyway, membership is still ridiculously cheap for such a huge MMO. The most important thing is that membership has become slightly more accessible, and that's never a bad thing :)

Aye, that's true but i couldn't really see myself walking into Sainsbury's and asking for a RS members card...would get a very odd look and possibly laughed at by anybody working the counter

Good thing an all but it be annoying to see some kid buying them. Even worse if had to work on the till seeing some 5 year old begging parents for one. :???:

Fortunately Sainburys isnt my choice of supermarket to shop at so I wont have to kill myself at the sight.

Ok it aint THAT bad.

It's not that bad. I'm sure they've seen worse.

Doesnt worth it.

If I havnt calculated wrong, US$5.95 is < £4.99 UK...by a lot!

Normal membership is £3.50 which is about right.

Like has been said, services through text or cards cost more. Go off the cost of the cards in the US rather than credit/debit membership.

I'm surprised they managed to get it into such a big supermarket. Shows they actually have some power in the wider world now.

Yep. I'm actually quite surprised that they managed to get an exclusive deal with Sainsburys as I would've thought the cards were better suited to being sold in a newsagents rather than a supermarket.

I see runescape subscription cards EVERYWHERE now. They are great for kids who have parents who don't trust using their credit card for anything on the internet.

Sleep on...fly on.

In your mind, you can fly.

Although it does not affect me, this sounds great.
