Computer vs. Console

Recommended Posts

There are different things that make a computer great and a console great.

Computers are great becuase for the most part you can upgrade fairly easy.

Consoles are great becuase you dont have to install silly drivers and silly programs, you just pop in the disc and play.

In that sence consoles win the game.

What if it was cheaper to upgrade your computer? If you know how to use a computer would it be a better plan to stick with computers?

The xbox 360 is over priced for a past time that was ment to take up some spare time.

Do you realize you are spending 400 dollars on a box that takes hours and hours of your time in exchange for a few bits of knowledge and hand, eye cordination skills?

I understand that consoles are for some people and computers are for others.

But who is getting the better deal in exchange for there money?

No actuly Xbox is for the win, cause sure you dotn get much learning, but you get helluva lot more entertainment. And i dont think the diffrence between comp and Xbox 360 is the upgrading. Its the play ability. A console is made soly for gameing (well basicly). A computer is made for many things. Since the gaming on the computer cna be slowed down because of lag, and other such things on your computer, it sorta defeats stops it from being fully entertaining to all gamers. But a console on the other hand, is ment only for gaming (again basicly). So it goes faster, and has less leg when playing games. This is helluval lot better.

But you realize that computer games can have much MUCH more quality and aren't limited by the space on the disks (by that I mean you only need one disk to play but it might take 10 to install)

In regards to value for money on the functionality side of things, the PC-Gamer will always come out on top.

If you want 'value for money' using the fun factor, then it's fairly open-ened. Depends what games you like to play really :-?

Or you can realize that it WILL get cheaper and just buy it then..

They're trying to milk the money cow, whats wrong with that?

Or how about talk about when people start buying the console or how much they spend for it, on their released date. Not everyone waits for the console to decrease in price. I've read somewhere that the next-gen consoles will age very slowly so price drop ain't gonna come soon.

I actually find the computer better because my favourite games are real time strategy games and first person shooter ones. You cannot compare that to console games as controllers just plain sucks compared to the mouse and the keyboard combo.

You are right about that. Some games are better suited to using a mouse and keyboard. But for games that are in first person, i alwasy prefere the controler.

Runesmithe: It would probably take forever to do 1 gig on the console, but non the less, the starting more expensive system comes with a removable hard drive that has 20gigs.... lol i think much downloading can be done.

A set which I found on IGN.com a while ago

ATI Radeon X1800XT (512mb) (625MHz)

4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz

Intel EE 4.0GHz Dual Core processor

1TB (1000gb) System Drive 7,200 RPM w/32MB Cache

52x32x52x CD-RW Drive

Logitech G5 Laser Mouse 2000-dpi 64mp/s

G15 Gaming Keyboard

Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" LCD Monitor

This might cost a bit (and you will need quite a few coolers), but it will easily beat the graphic quality and gameplay enhancements of any console or computer.

In fact, I think playing MMORPG games/Fps/etc on a computer like this would give you a really unfair advantage compared to casual players. But I'm very certain, even though I'm yet to try such a computer, that you would be astonished how much better this computer would be compared to a console. Besides, with these 'configs', I doubt you'd need a new computer for the next 5 years...

My $1300 computer will last for ~4 years and play any of those games at at least low resolution, above 30 fps (given past performance). The reason computers are not as "powerful" as consoles is because computers differ in design, even if they use similar components, and as such, they must run a Hardware Abstraction Layer, which is Windows and the accompanying drivers, and that takes up memory and processor use. If you took a computer and programmed a game that ran exclusively on that hardware, it would outperform the console port of that game, hands down.

In short, computers are "slower" becuase they need to run the game at the same time as Windows, drivers, etc.

2.5+ years later you'll be playing the games at low resolution and medium to low detail though wont' you?

You guys are doing this comparison completely wrong and I hope everyone reads this.

The comparison here is console gaming vs pc GAMING. 99% of the reasons posted for pc gaming are features that make it a computer not a game system. "Well liek I usorz my computer for other stuffs like haxxoring and word and stuff." So? That isn't relevant to gaming. For my money, and assuming I will get the same amount of satisfaction from 4 years of console or 4 years of pc gaming, then a console is a better deal.

Granted, I have nothing wrong with people liking pc. I probably would too with a better computer, but look at it this way. I worked over the summer spent the money I needed to spend and had enough money to preorder my xbox 360 and some games. I could not afford a new computer that could run even the current games let alone run games 4 years from now. It would not be worth my money to upgrade because my processor is too slow now, my graphics card is crap, and my ram is way too slow. The xbox money could probably have been spent to upgrade all of those, but then I'd want things like a new monitor cause of this crap resolution, etc.

lol, what the hell do u think a hard drive is? computers have waaaaaaaaay more space than an xbox too

and to the guy complaining about computer lag: I lag more on my x-box through my wireless internet connection than i do on my computer. it all depends on your connection and the quality of your computer.

I would rather have a computer than an x-box anyday.

P.S. Go to alienware's website and make the best computer possible. my record is over 10k
