Skiing/Boarding

I have a few SKIING questions:

1. Would it be easier for me to learn rails or spins first?

2. If I'm learning rails, how would I go about doing that?

3. If I can't get out to a hill, would practicing a spin on flat ground help?

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Living in Vermont has like 2 upsides: Ben and Jerry's and Burton. I snowboard, just got my season tickets the other day. I love living like 10 minutes from the mountain.

Spins are far easier then grinding, assuming you'll actually be grinding. If if's a wider box rail that you intend to ride normally, then spins would be harder.

Find a rail that's flat, and close to the ground. Preferably no longer then 7 feet. Just ride up, and turn. Screw up, just hike a few feet up, and try it again. and again. and again, untel you get it.

And a little bit. Learn how to spot your turns perfectly, always landing facing the direction you want to. If you can, wear your skis/board while doing this.

Oh, just a little tidbit of advice. Start small. Make sure you can land very well normally before attempting tricks. Try doing iron crosses before 180s/360s, so you learn to control your skis better. And for god sakes, don't try a huge rail on your first day of rails. The difference between a flat rail and a flat-down rail can be tremendous.

So I really hate traditional skis. And maybe it's just because I use the clunky rental ones they give you. But I don't want to have a 158cm ski attached to my foot, I've already got knee problems. (and I fall coming off the lift a lot...)

I've read a little into twin-tips and ski blades and skiboards. Are twin-tips any shorter than the traditional ones? What is the difference between the three?

And is there a good way to find out what size I'd need and a place to acquire said skis cheaply?

I [ice]skate a lot, so I realize that skiing (on flat ground at least) is very similar to skating, so I think that shorter skis would do me a lot of good.

I love skiing and snowboarding so much, easily my favourite things to do. I can only go every 2 years when I go to the states. It's so damn expensive in australia, lift tickets at the crappiest resort here are like the same as heavenly, lake tahoe.

Wouldn't it be way cheaper to come to New Zealand? We get lots of Aussies over here skiing, mostly because the flights are so damn cheap.

Don't get short ski's, it gets looked down upon. Twin tips are just as long as normal skis. I'm 1m86 and my twin tips are 1m80. My brother has normal carving skis and those are actually only 170 or something, so carving ski's might even be shorter (it depends a bit, race skis for big slalom are longer than the ones for normal slalom). Those big foots are just the easy way out for people that can't handle big skis and it looks ridicilous too. Just learn to ski big skis, it looks nicer, is more of a challenge, and has more possibilities once you can do it.

Finally got my 1's down pretty good. Also, I landed a 3 on my first try, although that was my only successful landing.

I want to get the Line Elizabeths. I skied my friends pare and they're amazing.

Super soft, wide, and good all around. I skied groomers, and steeps and they were great on both.

Man, I wish I could get them.

This weekend is the last of the season here, I'll be going up and getting a bit of skiing in tomorrow.

Let this shot be an incentive for everyone here to get out and ski/snowboard next year:
