Steel DRAGONS vs. Black DEMONS.

Okay so i recently got 88 Summoning. Along with that i got Dharok's Set to mess around with. Just for the heck of it i went to Black Demons today and realised that i 3hit and 4hit them quite often, this must mean they havepretty low defense? Black Demons are however on my Block List at the moment. So i was wondering if i should take them off and put Steel dragons back on? Mainy because i now have 88 Summoning and i should be able to tank them without much hastle and because there is always the option of Dharoking them. Any thoughts?

Black Demons have always been one of my favourite tasks. The reasons behind this are as follows,

Each task of 160+ demons I always get 70+ crimson charms.

100k+ in my chosen combat skill

A nice hefty chunk of slayer exp (25-30kexp)

Yeah they are one of my favorite tasks to Cannon, but at the moment i'm looking to get to 95 Slayer without having to bring out the cannon. And i don't really want to pray against them because i'll end up loosing money on tasks then.

I break even nearly everytime I use prayer against them. I bring a bunyip and some high def armour and every now and then I turn prayer off until I'm at half hp. Then turn prayer on and let bunyip heal me.

IMO if your going to dh them use the CT, pray and use your best combat familiar.

You can switch to another and tell your familiar to finish off them if your getting them down to 10 to 15 hp within a few hits.

Black Demon tasks own. I always break even when using protection prayer against them.

 

I'm not sure about Steel Dragons though, I always do Steel Dragon tasks, even though they're slow. Always nice with a small visage chance.

I think black demons is more effective than steel dragons, if you want 95 slayer.

Yeah unblock them. They're not so bad. Great xp, low def like you stated.

They have FAR lower defense than steel dragons. And they aren't awful xp either.

If you ever plan on unblocking steels, get super antfire pots and z spear (d hally for special), it hits really high very commonly. But if you are going to unblock them, don't stop praying, bring 12 ppots and piety (unless you want to flash pray which is really annoying). I was there earlier today and I was hitting in the high 40s OFF task, killing around 2 steels a minute, meaning you could hit in the 50s near scim speed, and with dragon slayer gloves you could hit a lot more commonly. If you are only considering unblocking them for being able not to pray, I assure you it's not worth it. Steel tasks have small numbers, so no point in wasting you time tanking them at a slow rate then powering through the task with piety.

As for Black demons.. Ive never killed one since I started rs, so I have no idea.

I'll have to test it out tonight as if its true I'm going to be extremely annoyed.

I'm quite sure as it pissed me off. Was waiting to do the quick-chat thing when you level up. I pressed it the first time and after my fire titan attack i did it again and my level didn't change. Tried it one more time to see if i didn't get the exp, and sure enough i didn't get any exp from my familiar finishing off the creature.

mmm had to test it and I'm getting exp for the kills my familiar finishes. Spirit dagannoth works atleast, next task I can I'll test elemental titans.

Yeah, I'm 99.9% sure that Cbtbaker is wrong. I've always gotten the experience.

Well I know what i saw, and i didn't get any exp when i had my familiar kill the creature. It might have been fixed, but at one point it didn't work. I just went and i killed the Nech halfway and let my Titan finish it off, i then went and let titan do half the damage. Got the exp both times. But i know i didnt get it that one time.

I can confirm I got xp when I slayed somewhere in the beginning of the summer. I heard it wansn't like that before though.

Confirming that you get slayer XP even if your familiar kills the monster ENTIRELY by itself.

You can also semi tank black demons.

 

Use bandos (or verac pieces) and whip/defender/DFS or SGS and the usual stuff for melee.

 

Use bunyip (cheap) or unicorn (expensive with scrolls).

 

Put protection prayer on when HP sinks below pre-established safe level.

 

Let your bunyip/SGS heal you.

 

Put prayer off.

 

Be lucky.

 

Sometimes there is a bit of an unlucky streak where they keep hitting you, but also you have just as many lucky streaks when they never seem to be able to hit you.

 

You safe a lot of prayer pots though by semi-tanking.

 

Works fine on most monsters that are traditionally associated with protection prayer, such as dark beasts and iron dragons.

 

You need good stats though. And superdefense pots.

 

But I like to just cannon them (except that I sold my cannon).
