Prayer or Herblore

Well, I've been contemplating for the past few days and I can't seem to choose which 99 I should get.

99 Herb will cost me about 250m (I think, from 61)

99 Pray will cost me 150m (From 85)

 

The thing is, I think that I will be doing a lot of combat in the future and Herb will help greatly with all the extreme pots. However, I'm afraid that Jagex will introduce updates for prayer, making prayer even more expensive.

 

As such, I'm at a dilemma and I'm rather unsure of which skill I should pursue. Both skills are great but which should I choose?

If you go for herblore don't bother going for the 99 just aim for the 96 (even as low as 92 and beer/stew to the level) as theres no combat advantage of getting those extra levels, just sheer cost for the cape.

Prayer is a 50:50. On one hand they could only add new prayers, on the other they could add a new better method of getting prayer exp.

Increased price: Decreased price

 

IMO level summoning first.

79/88 will help more then prayer and will cost far less.

Get 88/96 summoning, then 92 herblore, and lasty at least 90 prayer. 90 seems reasonable for a high end prayer level, it's 15 levels past anything we need atm.

If you just want the advantages and not a 99, 95 herblore (looks nicer than 96 lol. get 90 if you don't particularly care about overload) and 90/95 prayer would be a better option. If you do want a 99, I recommend herblore (extreme pots etc help way more than a few more ppoints and are really worth 100m more - imagine all the boss hunting you will be able to do faster to make the money back).

 

And as joe said, 88 summoning is really nice to have too. It would cost about 220m total to get 90 herb/prayer/summoning (by bursting, way cheaper if you do something else), which would get you almost the full advantages of all of them and for less cost than 99 herb.

Hmm, alright thanks for all the imput. I didn't put this down, but I have already banked 49k casts of ice bursts which will get me both 99 mage and 92 summoning I think. Additionally, I've actually banked 40k Dragon bones as I initially wanted 99 pray. But with the Herblore update, I'm suddendly forced to reconsider my options.

31k bursts gets me charms for 88-96 (already have 80-90 banked before i started bursting) and I'm on my itouch in school so i can't check your summoning level. But I'd assume you'd easily get charms for 96 with 49k bursts using the 9 lob spot. I'd get 92 herby before hand though, and use extreme mage pots to reduce the ammount of casts by ~55%. I have a picture of a nice setup ai can show you after school. Then get 90+ prayer, or get it before hand.

 

I'll go more indepth at home (if you do this).

Right now, I'm thinking of selling 27k dbones leaving me with 13k which will get me 92 prayer. The 108M from the dbones will be channelled to herblore probably.

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Potions should help, but extreme pots aren't on there so you will have to figure out the cheapest/most efficient potion after 84 for yourself.

 

Prayer potions/serum 207 or something would be cheap but slow, anything else is over 20/25 gp/xp. There's not really a 'best' potion to make atm, the prices change a lot.

Honestly, I'm waiting to train Herblore until the Prayer update comes, as I'm expecting a major shift in demand. I've banked bones for Prayer, but I plan to train Herblore when the Prayer update actually happens.

Alright I haven't read all of the replies but here is how i see it.

99 Prayer is nice for 2 reasons: It makes your Prayer last longer saving you money of Prayer Pots and it boosts your Combat level. The cape is total shyte if you ask me. Aside from those 2 things 99 Prayer is UNSELESS (unless it is updated).

99 Herblore is kind of useless too, but more worth it than Prayer. Atm one of the most expencive 99's and one of the most usefull 96's. I wouldnt be to worried about getting 99 atm. Get 96 and use the money you save on getting 90 Prayer. That should be all you need for now.

I can't help much with herblore, but there's plenty of guides on YT, or you can just Google some. The only advice I have is to get 92 instead of 96, a 4 boost from stews isn't that rare, and if you just spend a few hours making a couple hundred, you wont need to stew again for quite some time.

 

Okay, I'll need a list of the exact amount of charms that you have right now, and I can find out how many bursts you'd need for 88/96 summoning. Also, if you want to kill waterfiends for charms, it will save you quite a bit of money, but you loose out on the mage exp. IIR you wanted to burst for 99 mage anyways, so I'd personally just burst (or barrage if money isn't an issue, but that's a whole other story).

This is the bursting setup I use, the SGS gives me more than enough prayer. I never sip a prayer pot, or use the falador shield, I only bring them for emergencies, which is never. If I were you I'd bring the same stuff as I do, except 15 extreme mage pots.

USE A WAND, the extra 2 (4/5 since you'll be using extreme mage pots, so your max will be near 44 IIR) damage it provides per cast saves the cost of water runes. So it nets you more exp/cast, and less casts for the same exp, and gives you 5 more mage bonus, no reason not to use one as you can sell it back later.

Use the 9 lob spot, more charms/cast. I'd be willing to take you, if you've never been bursting before, and show you how it works.

 

Now for prayer, it would take you 13k dragon bones, which costs ~51m at mid, to get to 92. It would take you 22k dragon bones, which costs ~86m, to get to 95. Lastly, It would take you 39k dragon bones, which costs ~152mm at mid, to get to 99. I'd honestly just use as many bones as you can (to get to a certain level, not mid level) once you've gotten 88/96 summoning, 99 mage, and 92 herblore.

I was planning to use almost the exact same method of bursting, but I'm a little worried about what will happen when I lag out. Of course, the rol will probably save me, but can you tell me the total money lost on death with that setup? :P

Right now, with that exact setup and amount of everything, is 29m. You keep sgs, barrows gloves, and fury, which is 113.4m.

Hmm that would kind of suck. But it's within reason, and there is a fairly large chance the rol saves you anyway. Maybe infinity gloves instead of barrows would help you save the master wand/ahrim skirt?

Dying doesn't bother me, I can always make the money back. There's an 82% chance that the ROL saves you, and I've never not been saved by it here.

Not to mention, if you are praying, you will be saved anyways. As long as prayer is high enough to last until you autolog, that is.

Also take into account that at high herblore, you can make the extreme prayer potions.

Go for prayer :) there will be prayer updates this year, and my guess is it will go even higher than it already is.
