Hegemony Argument Thread

Paul, the new hegemony thats just been created is 21st century

Apparently a historic hegemony wouldn't work :L

You just use logic to decide who wins in battles and say things like.

"Your people rebel, Dusty because your mean to them" randomly or if you think people would be outraged (Don't do this often though)

actualy, if its fantasy, then i could mod it. but it wouldnt be that good, cause its still hard to keep track of obscure stuff.

hex, its simple. that is a waste of space. threads like mine and mathers are inactive a lot, but they actually have people who want to play them. that is something your new hegenomy lacks.

You know...I think we could make Hegemony work....What we would need to do is create a thread which the moderator would update....And thats that.

Everything else would be done in the PM-Verse.

So, say someone(A) was invading somewhere( C ) and someone( B ) else wanted to stop them.

A would PM Mod 'I am doing this'

Mod would post 'A is sending between X and Y number of troops to C, they are travelling this way and will arrive in H hours.'

B would PM Mod 'I am doing this'

Mod would post 'B is sending between X and Y number of troops to C, they are travelling this way and will arrive in G hours'.

Research would be:

A would PM Mod 'I am researching this'

Mod would PM back 'It will take about Y, give or take 50%'

Mod would post 'A is conducting research into X, it will take about Y days.'

If it was secret research then it would be:

A would PM Mod 'I am researching this'

Mod would PM back 'It will take about Y, give or take 50%'

Everything would go through the mod, and if people want to argue about how amazing their new weapons are they can do it in PM verses each other...rather than in thread.

What do people think?

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

hmm. actually, i think this could work. but maybe if the arguments were wide based, then we could do a thread for it? kinda like the dungeoneering discusiion thread. also, i prefer a medival fantasy hegenomy to a high tech one. to confusing with hightech.

Could just extend the 'No WMD' rule to include Firearms and Electrical weapons.

Or we could go from the realistic angle and the fact that firearms took over 400 years to develop from the cannon(12th century) to the flintlock(16th)...and that the Bayonet was far more effective from the 16th century all the way up till the 20th Century.

So simply put...Cannons are allowed from the 12th century, Flintlocks are allowed from the 16th century and machine guns are allowed from the 19th century.

Though, to be honest it would have to be Fantasy or Modern...Like Dusty said...everything else doesn't work...

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Okay, medieval doesn't work very well at all. A fantasy hegemony filled with magic and monsters, although something I would love, would not appeal to some people here (Dusty, mainly).

We're pretty much stuck with modern.

Magic always ends up making everyone powergame even harder is mostly why I can't stand it. That and it's silly.

'I attack you with 10,000 soldiers.'

'I cast a fireball and kill them all.'

'...'

Silly silly. You can defend an empire with 2 guys with sticks and long beards.

Archi, theres no need for that PM system, we could just post it in thread.

Someone please start a hegemony soon.

Because it's worked so well in the past hasn't it...What with the page after page of argument....People not reading and giving up because actually its boring as hell to read through an argument that goes nowhere(though quite fun when you write it, if you look at the below*)

Magic always ends up making everyone powergame even harder is mostly why I can't stand it. That and it's silly.

[hide]Anywho, magic... Well you would just summon some sort of magic resistant monster...Dragon for instance...

Honestly, its just the same as 'Technology'...I build a massive laser and shoot your 10,000 man army. I drop a bomb which kills 10,000 people. I launch a missile that kills 10,000 people. I train 50 soliders with massive lasers and kill 10,000 of yours. I release a virus that kills 10,000 of your people. I crash a spaceship into your city and kill 10,000 people. I hook a generator to the Effiel Tower and zap 10,000 of your people.

Only real difference is that you can switch from 'I build a tank with ablative armour and multidyne tracking softpoint countermeasures with laser-guided anti-missile-missiles.'

to

'I summon/train an Orc with a hatchet'

Or you switch from 'I launch three ICBMs with a FOAB duct-tapped between them' to 'I summon a thunderstorm over your city.'

The PM system means that, instead of 'If you do that I do this', it means 'You have done this so I do this to stop it.'

'Thunderstorm kills 3,000 people but then is dispelled', 'Fine, I retalitate against A with a giant fireball of death' 'Fireball destroys a vital bridge and stops troop movement in this area' 'Awesome' makes a much better exchange than:

*'I launch my nukes, well I launch my countermeasures, well I launch more nukes, well my countermeasures intercept them, my missiles are stealthed, you can't have stealth missiles, I can, No you can't, I still get past your countermeasures, no, I did, no they are invincible! No thats unfair, well they can intercept a billion missiles, fine I launch a billion and one missiles, omg you don't have that many missiles, no but your tech is stupid, no its awesome, no its stupid, look clearly you don't understand the horse and cart, that analogy is completely irrelevant, no, yes, no, yes, my missiles blow your capital up, no they got intercepted, no they blew your capital region up, I blew up your captial!, what?, yeah with a billion missiles, you don't have a billion missiles, neither do you, fine I have a billion strong defence, no!!!!! I REVEAL 43526436234623452355 TROOPS IN YOUR CAPITALS!!!!! OWNAGE.

[/hide]

It would depend on how childish people wanted to be...since 'magic', like 'technology', can blow anything up if you have enough of it...if people are going to research 'NOOB ATTACK' weapons then, obvouisly, the game is going to fail.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Most of the stupidity with technology you stated was people either A. goofing around, or B. For some reason green-lighted by the moderator (ahem, you). The magic [cabbage] is stupid, "oh lets fly dragons around and shoot fireballs out of our [wagon]". Nty that doesn't interest me in the slightest.

And this:

I launch my nukes, well I launch my countermeasures, well I launch more nukes, well my countermeasures intercept them, my missiles are stealthed, you can't have stealth missiles, I can, No you can't, I still get past your countermeasures, no, I did, no they are invincible! Could be applied in exactly the same manner to your posts about bridges and fireballs, lol. It's not like as soon as magic is introduced everyone suddenly becomes reasonable.

Finding a mod with half a brain is fine, any of us (With the possible exception of.... ) are twice as qualified as your imaginary moderator ....

The problem is that anyone who mods would have to have 100% power given to them by all the players...We can't hold anything back so we can try to stop them making a bad call for us...Or a bad call generally...we would have to accept that the moderator was God and whatever rubbish he or she spouted as gospel truth.

That means we need a mod with a sense of reason that we can all understand...without having it explained, since that is too complicated.

Look, lets abandon all the high fluted ideas...

Basics:

We restart Hegemony from 2010.

I moderate and don't play. If I say something is unreasonable then it is unreasonable. Regardless of what you think or what I have said before. If you disagree PM me as I will post this rule as a responce otherwise.

Superweapons are unbuildable. This does not mean powerful weapons are unbuildable, it means weapons more powerful than the Nagasaki Bomb are not allowed. (Low level nukes, used on their own, are fine.)

Fallout, Global Warming and Virus Outbreaks do not exist in game.

Your country gets technology avalible in 2010.

Research can be whatever and take whatever you think to complete...but it has to be reasonable(and more than 1 year)

Joint research projects split the cost, they do no increase the speed of research.

1 day is 1 year, starting from BST 00:00

All armies, defences, navies and airforces are disbanded and you cannot attack in the first year.

Moving troops takes 2 hours in real life.

Economy:

GDP will be replaced with IAG(Industrial, Agricultural, Gross).

IAG is your entire GDP as it was in 2000, but has to last you 10 years. After 10 years your IAG is restored, minus any money you didn't spend, then increased by your Infrastructure as a percent.

Increasing your IAG is done by spending on Infrastructure. Infrastructure starts at 1 for all countries.

Spending 100% of your IAG on Infrastructure increases it by 1. 99%=0.99 and so on.

Bombing and warfare near towns and cities destroys infrastructure.

This means you need to keep track of three numbers....Your IAG, how much money you have left and your level of infrastructure. (These figures will be kept in the OP as well)

Annexing:

Annexing another country peacefully takes 10 years and costs 50 Billion.

If someone else tries to intervene then whatever they spend is deducted from what you spend...

Simple?

Basically the same as the Hegemony's of before by with Economy and Annexing fixed.

Does anyone have a problem with this?

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Edit, I agree Archi but can you do a rule against having techs that are theorys.

People are just using this to let them get whatever they want.

And I call dibs on africa unless we are playing super realisticly and africa's a third world country, then I call dibs on Greenland.

I prefer GDP actually, the economy was already ok. The only problem was combat
