They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

— revelation 6:7-8

In this passage they say the 4 damages the 4 horseman caused to earth: War, Famine, Plague and Death. The 4 horseman.

Also, there are various versions of the bible, and the bible itself was re-written by Alexander the Great, so it's hard to pinpoint the 3rd horseman.

Nuh uh. There were only 3 horsemen that killed and there are 3 ways listed.

1. Sword

2. Famine/Plague

3. Wild beasts of the earth=Conquest?

Anybody got the original (Hebrew? idk what language its originally in) bible and can translate it?

The 4 horse men are War, Famine, Plague and Death.

Conquest in that translation is an older meaning of the word. Abstracted from how they conquered places, which was to barricade places and catapult bodies on the dead into them. This result in rampant famine and plague in the city. As famine is already defined in the horsemen we can take this context to mean plague

Alexander the Great lived over 300 years before any of the New Testament was written. Perhaps you're referring to someone else?

Most of the New Testament, including Revelation, was originally written in Greek. I don't know Greek, though, so I can't provide my own translation.

The first horse is traditionally said to be Pestilence, but I don't understand why.

I find the "bible doesn't say tht" one interesting.

Since artwork of the four horsemen from before the bible was every translated clearly declares them as War, Famine, Plague and Death.

People assume the various translations over the years that use words that have different meanings are "correct" however. As I explained above when the bible was translated conquest had different meanings to it, which could mean plague.

and the Route/root of all evil. That quest also had a prime example of the trope, a money grubbing entrapanuer who did not let things like actually paying his employ, or murder stand in his way.

Sorry, but I did not understand that all. And now that I think of it, it wasnt actually a quest.

  • 3 weeks later...

That one about the 4 areas of the SoS is really cool. But..... Which one of them is War? (yes I have been geeking out about Darksiders the game, so has Draz..... It's amazing).

Hah, yes, is it ever. I just beat it yesterday. :P I just wanted to talk about how great the game is, sorry. xD

OT: I love these kinds of things! It really makes me respect the depth of the game. ^^

Hell yes that game is amazing. :D

Anyways back to what I was about the say: The past 2 pages on the 4 horsemen has been epic :D You guys really know your stuff. I love it.

And also another I found another subtle reference..... it's in the transcript of the conversation between you and a granite lobster -

"Granite lobster: Fremennik Player Name, what is best in life?

Player: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women!"

Conan the Barbarian anyone? :)

Also "goodness gracious great bird of fire" is a reference to the immortal Elvis and his song Great Balls of Fire.

And the Arctic bear seems to make some sort of sly references to either Steve Irwin (<3 RIP) or Nigel Marvin.

Anyone have any more?
