Hunting for the Lumberjack equipment

Due to my experience with Temple Trekking, I’ve decided to make a guide about “hunting” for the Lumberjack equipment.I hope it’ll help you in your quest for the set. It is a fun minigame although it’s deserted most of the time.

I. General Information

Most people know the minigame as Temple Trekking, which is false. The complete minigame has 2 parts: Temple Trekking and Burgh de Rott Ramble.

a.Temple Trekking: means taking the villagers to the Paterdomus(temple near Canifis) from Burgh de Rott.

b.Burgh de Rott Ramble: means taking the villagers to Burgh de Rott from Paterdomus.

For the best results you should do both of the minigames, as the end of a succesfull trekk gets you to the start of the other minigame, being easier this way as you don’t need to teleport to the start unless your companion dies(although it shouldn’t) or you have to escape from an event(such as bog).

II. Requirements

To be able to trekk efficiently I’d say you should complete the following quests as they are either required or aid you:

• Priest In Peril (req)

• Nature Spirit (aid)

• In search of the Myreque (req)

• In Aid of the Myreque (req)

• Darkness of Hallowvale (req)

• Desert Treasure (aid)

• Fairy Tale Part II - Cure a Queen (aid)

I will not mention any combat related requirements as the quests above need some good skills(both combat and noncombat) to be completed. I’ve mentioned Desert Treasure because of the teleport that you can build in your house (Kharyrll) which on use will teleport to Canifis, allowing you to restock at the bank or get at the start of the minigame, near the river, very fast. Other way of trekking is making use of the fairy rings(you can access them in the first few steps, from the fairy quest). You can either use a glory amulet and teleport to Edgeville then use the fairy ring there or teleport to your house and use the glory amulet mounted in your Quest Hall, to teleport to Edgeville then use the fairy ring. The code CKS is to be used as it’ll tele port you near the start of the minigame(at the Paterdomus).

III. Equipment

The beauty about this minigame is that it does not require expensive gear. A simple rune gear can be used, to avoid any barrows armour repair, if you used that kind’of equipment.

General use gear:

[hide]2d1ttu8.png[/hide]

I’ve had my void set(melee) for a few years now and I rarely used it so I take it with me during trekking.

[hide]2qc1etl.png[/hide]

You shouldn’t worry that much about combat as you will skip most dangerous events.

IV. Inventory

When trekking I use the following inventory:

[hide]mhplir.png[/hide]

• Axe: used to cut trees during the events;

• Tinderbox: used to light a fire for one of the events;

• Dust/law runes: used for hometeleport(I use the Canifis portal and go back to trekking),they allow for a restart of the game in-case of the bog event;

• Hammer:used to fix logs/planks in the bridge event;

• Knife:used to cut vines (during an event) or skin the snakes you encounter;

• Logs:used to make some events faster(such as the sick people one);

• Snails:same as above.

Due to my stats I do not require food during the minigame. If sometimes happens and I get hit, I simply restore HP when banking. The dust/law rune combo is also a very good way of keeping track of how many bogs event you’ve encountered

as they usually are the only events that force you to teleport thus annoying everyone.I usually trekk for 10 bogs, then go back to the usual skills.

V. Events

During trekking you can encounter a number of 13 events(12 if you do not use the hard route, which you shouldn’t if you want speed).

The level of the escorts dictates the number of monsters you'll encounter during trekking.Easy escorts will bring out 3 monsters in the events, while the medium ones will make 4 of them appear and finally the hard escorts will have the maximum of monsters encounters,5 of them in each event.

1) Abidor Crank

He appears when randomly trekking and helps you by healing your companion and yourself, also boosting your defence over it’s max. If you have rotten food in your inventory he will change it into stews.

[hide]2njew43.png[/hide]

2) Vampyre Juvinates-level 59 on route 1

A group of vampyres will attack you.Skip this event by using 1 of the 2 lateral paths(right click them, skip event).

[hide]33mmwl5.png[/hide]

3) Ghasts-level 79 on route 1

You will not see anything on the minimap, rather see a few ghasts that will try to attack you.Skip.

[hide]wc21ys.png[/hide]

4) Shades-level 80 Riyl Shades on route 1

This event will only appear in Mort’ton.Shades will attack.Skip.

[hide]3029bw2.png[/hide]

5) Swamp Snakes-level 80 on route 1

Three of them will attack. If you’re not in a hurry, slay all of them then use the knife on their bodies, to get snake hides.Bank them when at Burgh de Rott. You can also skip this event.

[hide]2czvvjt.png[/hide]

6) Giant Snails-level 80 on route 1

They will attack with acid, although range pray negates their attack. You can also use a snelm(snail helm) to protect against them.Shouldn’t be needed though.Skip.

[hide]5orzo8.png[/hide]

7) Tentacle and Head Monster-only found on route 3 *info below is from the Official Tip.It trekking guide*

This monster is only found on route 3. It is actually 5 parts: 4 level 99 tentacles and 1 level 140 head. You must kill all 4 tentacles first. If you kill the head while 1 or more tentacles still are alive, the head will respawn at full health. You must kill all the parts in order to go on. Once you have defeated them, click the boat to continue your trip. Right click on the boat if you want to escape the event (abandoning your mission with no reward.) You will be slightly southwest of the swamp boaty travel point. NOTE: If you poison one part of the monster, all parts become poisoned.

8) Nail beasts-level 69 on route 1

Three of them will attack your and your companion.Due to the high summoning experience you can get by using the talon beast charms that they drop I’d recommend slaying them and keeping the charms. You can also skip this event, but do it fast as each of their attack has 3 hits.

[hide]30dgu1y.png[/hide]

9) Vyrewatch-level 85 on route 1

You will encounter such beasts after completing the Legacy of Seergaze quest. If you wish you can slay them using the Flail of Ivandis, thus getting a vyre corpse for each of them, that you can cremate.I recommend skipping.

[hide]b8vg1y.png[/hide]

The next 4 events are noncombat so I’ve listed them separately.

1) River

You will have to cross a river, without any bridge at disposal.Near you there will be a tree with 3 vines hanging.Use your knife with it, 3 times, to get the vines. After that simply use one of them on another vine. You’ll make a rope out of the 3 vines.Use the rope on the other tree, without vines, on the branch that is above the river.Right click the rope->swing.You’ll pass over the river and shortly, your companion will do it too. After that continue your trekking, using the path you can find north of you.

[hide] 10oqttd.png[/hide]

2) Bog

You will be in a swamp, with no bridge or trees.I choose to skip this event as I find it faster than testing the soil for firm spots. It’s simply frustrating to be 1 spot away from the other shore and bam, you sink in the swamp.

[hide] 2wgc2o9.png[/hide]

3) Campsite

In this event there will be 3 sick people, leaning on some dead logs.

Make a fire using your tinderbox and one of the logs in your inventory. Cook the 3 snails you have in your inventory then use one at a time on the sick people.Hurry though, or else they turn into ghasts and you have to tele. It seems the middle person turns into a ghast the fastest, then the person north of it so I recommend healing the people in this order:middle, top, bottom.Cut the dead tree nearby to get a log back and then slay 3 snails for their meat.Continue your trekk using the north path.

[hide]9iztyr.png [/hide]

4) Bridge

This event should be split into 2, depending if you get trees or not.

4.1 With trees

You have to cross the river, after you’ve fixed the bridge.Cut the trees nearby until you have 3 logs from them(keep the other logs in your inventory for the events).Use one log at a time on the empty space in the bridge to fix it.After that continue your trekk, by passing over the bridge and using the path.

[hide]300gn53.png [/hide]

4.2 Without trees

This is the event you’ve been expecting,as it is the event that will reward you with lumberjack pieces. Slay the zombies that come out of the water. There are different waves, of 5 zombies each. They will drop planks.Use them in a similar fashion as the logs from the event with the trees. They only drop 1 lumberjack item/event, so look at the drop pile.If it has 6 options it's usually made of:bones, plank, lumberjack item.If the drop pile contains more options(coming from a new zombie that is) it'll contain:bones, plank, 3 snails.

[hide] 24wditt.png[/hide]

Tip:if you already have all the pieces but you want more of them, simply bring one of the items that are easier to get(such as boots) and drop the before killing the zombies. If they drop an item you don’t want pick up the item you’ve dropped and continue with fixing the bridge.

Tip:if you have more than 1 set and still want more, bring all of the items of one kind(such as boots) and repeat what I’ve wrote at the previous tip.

Tip:If the zombies do not drop any piece(although you’ve dropped the one in your inventory before killing) don’t worry. Pick up your item and relog(log off then back in). You’ll be in the same event, but the zombies will come out of the water, otherwise you’d have to wait for the waves to reset.

VI. Strategy

I’d avise starting from the Paterdomus side as it is easier to get to.Choose one of the easier people to escort (either mage or adventurer) and start the event, then choosing the easy route(blue one).Should you encounter any events(yes, there is a possibilty of not getting any events during a round of trekking), deal with them as written in the events section. If you’ve succesfully reached Burgh de Rott, you will receive a reward token (blue for the easy route) and the person you escorted will dissapear in the city.

On the other way around, to the Paterdomus you should use the easier people to escort also( either Fyiona Fray or Dalcian Fang) and start the event.Once you’ve reached the Paterdomus you will receive a reward token.Cash in your previous token (Hiylik Myna will give you the reward), for the Paterdomus-Burgh de Rott route and restart the minigame. When you’ve reached Burgh de Rott for the 2nd time, go at the bank and simply “use” the bank, you will be asked if you want to cash in your token, do so then bank the rewards(or snake hides/talon beast charms) that you’ve acquired, heal if needed and go at the minigame start, near the gate.

As you can see the minigame isn’t that difficult and is a rewarding one, in my opinion.

Start point and route from the Paterdomus:[hide]2yy8i13.png [/hide]

[hide]2zir31c.png [/hide]

Start point and route from Burgh de Rott: [hide] wk21e.png[/hide]

[hide]16itq2u.png [/hide]

For raw speed, use the people named above, skip all events possible (even snakes/beasts) and destroy your tokens at the end of each run.I personally destroyed all the tokens and only slayed nail beasts, for the charms, skipping the snake event.

VII. Rewards

By cashing in your tokens you can receive either item rewards or tomes of experience. The amount that you receive depends on the strength of the escorts(the weaker the better the rewards are) and also the route you take(for the lumberjack pieces use route 1).

The items that you can receive are:

[hide]2vkdap0.png [/hide]

VIII. Credits

Jagex-for creating the game.

Tip.It-for some exact info(namely the tentacle monster and the rewards part)

Zombies-for dropping me lumberjack pieces.

Hope you have fun trekkin’!

Tried to write a guide on this a year ago, turned out to big but im going harsh on you now.

Prayer on snails is inefficient, save it for different events. Use snelm for snails to decrease damage to practically zero, i also recommend to not skip these as these are real fast with some specs

Nothing said about the lumberjack event with trees that it only drops one item (just did a quick skim through your guide, correct me if im wrong)

Wear a helm of neitiznot? Dragon legs or something?

on the bog, there are patterns, learn them. i forgot them but seriously, every bog you meet make a map from now on

Take a DDS for poisoning/specs, or whatever spec weapon is in the metagame atm (sgs?)

Maybe ill post more later, but this is it for now

Eh, not sure I agree with this, I prefer to pray snails for two main reasons.

First it's easy to restore prayer, whether it be with an ardougne cape or with a house altar

secondly a snail helmet takes up precious inventory space, which matters a significant deal when you bring an easy escort to swamp snakes

anyways as for my comments. The guide is well written and is formatted well, but it's distinctly lacking in information as felix pointed out

i don't think you mentioned the ability to give food to your ally before starting the trek

you didn't mention that bringing a weak ally increases the number of enemies to 5

Since you're skipping all the bad tasks anyways, this having 5 enemies is favorable when you actually encounter a nail beast event or a swamp snake event.

do a little more research, there are many nuances to temple trekking that are worth looking into

Yeah, I would definitely use the weakest follower so you get 5 nail beast/snakes. Not worth skipping at all imo. Also, I dunno if a slayer ring would be better for you to tele back in case you get something like a bog. And a sack of food should be used for the campsite event, it works amazing.

I wrote the guide as a result of my experience with the minigame.I've only hunted for the lumberjack pieces, thus I didn't care for how many monsters I get or the loot.

Easy->3 monsters.Med->4 monsters.Hard->5 monsters.

Snails->they hit hard with range if you do not wear a snelm. There is no point in not skipping this event as they rarely drop anything decent, it's all about speed after all.

As for the followers I never needed any food for them.In ~100 trekks my follower only died once due to the fact that I afked.

As for the spec weapon I take SGS myself(you never know), but as I said the equipment can be heavily modified.I take the sgs setup with d axe,sgs in the inventory for faster trekking.Feel free to swap any items for better ones.

I think DDS/D claws>SGS because you dont need the prayer according to the posts here, you can just recharge it using that stupid overpowered neeb cape or stupid overpowered neeb shield or stupid overpowered neeb altar in your neeb house. Snelm is still worth taking, just cause its so kewl

I am also going to be rather harsh on you, since this game is enjoyable, and shouldn't just be skipped.

I'd suggest for efficiency and fun and speed, use weakest companion on easiest route, since that gives you 5 of each monsters, so super profit from Talon beasts and snakes, two events you should NEVER skip.

For a more challenging and rewarding trek, but still fun take weakest on the middle route. This is a far more advanced route, but the tokens and rewards make up for it 100%. It is possible to make several million with this minigame daily while still being engaged, skipping all tasks quickly loses interest, and reward.

If you are going to feed your companion, Salmon works the best, since it is cheap and heals enough to keep them alive for a trek, and I prefer a Verac Skirt and Proselyte top outfit, since it is a great combination of both Prayer and Defensive boosts.

Bring a Sack of Potatoes or cabbages for the sickened camp event and always have a combat potion in your INV, as they are cheap, inventory savvy, and you will need the boosts for the fights.

Not much else comes to mind right now, but it just erks me that you would say to skip basically all of the events in the minigame. That's comparable to leeching at Soul Wars or Trawler: you receive rewards for no work.

Picture2-10.png

So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

If you have a prayer level above about 60, and a agility level above 65, you can simply use prayer for any fights you encounter (I agree with warrior that you should always slay the snakes and talon beasts). I personally have proselyte body and legs, a mitre and cloak, falador shield 2 (but I plan on getting hold of 3), rfd barrows gloves, dragon boots, and a whip unless other weapons are required. Take the shortcut to the temple whenever you get to it and recharge your prayer, and it usually lasts for the whole trip, meaning very few losses.

Of course, take an emergency prayer potion and the other equipment you need.

Huge hint: If you burn 50 Vyrewatch corpses, you will become better with the flail, in terms of strength, attack and defence against Vyrewatch and Juvinates, all the way until you burn 500. You also get some good rewards from burning them. If you've got some time on your hands and enjoy Trekking and Mort'ton Temple building, it might be worth trying to kill enough so killing Vyrewatch becomes quite efficient. It's also just another goal if you're the completist type.

I understand your concern guys but just like I said in the guide, for maximum speed skip all events.I've seen people with 20+ items except for the top so I doubt that they'd stay and kill a few monsters rather than try and get the top, in the time they spare. After the 4th or 5th set, I started slaying the nail beasts too as I wanted the summoning xp.

Thanks for the comments.

Nice guide, 2noob. I agree with you that speed is definitely preferable if you're just looking for lumberjack clothing. I used the easy companion on the medium route at first when I was looking for full lumberjack, but I quickly switched to the easy route. I just used full proselyte and protection prayers, but the monsters are so weak that it didn't matter. I'll be using your guide when I try to max my flail.

mmhmm...for the quests, temple of sennisten helps a bunch during these...those reflect-curses make each trip like 50x easier, and with you only really needing an altar once every 2 trips, its pretty effective...

Awesome guide. After seeing this I remembered my long time struggle for full Lumberjack. After following your techniques, I am now a man of three pieces! (Hat and two legs) I follow this guide to the word. What's also surprising is that you still profit, maybe more, than higher levelled routes. I like it.

EDIT: I've also gotten two sets of boots now! Thanks a lot!

Also, I noticed yesterday when I was lazily playing. That a second and third wave (probably more, I was good with those two) appear if you wait long enough. Any idea if the later waves of Zombies drop the Lumberjack set?

They do. You will ALWAYS get a piece of clothing during one of those events. If the first wave doesn't drop one, just keep waiting for them until one does.

Eh, I got full in 30 rounds doing all events, going back and forth. Netted me about 10 boots, 3 legs, 5 hats and 1 shirt (i believe) and around 750k.

Took me about 10 hours tops. So it isn't as hard as some people say it is. You just have to be persistent.

'tis just for the casual player 3pm.No point in going that far with slay rings and such.I like the hometele because it allows me to bank in Canifis.

the casual 110+ should have rings of slaying its the next thing you should unlock after slayer helm. And dont add it just because you dont think that that many people have it...thats like saying you arent going to say elysian is good in an armadyl guide because not many people have it. Im missing the top after 1k+ runs so I've pretty much given up. 26 boots, 14 hats, 8 legs.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).
