K4ylan
While walking by my Chemistry class the other day, I noticed right beside the door, there is a small Braille sign next to it that dictates the room to blind people. What I wanted to know, is how are these signs useful? I've seen them other places, but there is no point. I mean, they're blind...how do they find the sign to feel. And if they need someone to show them the sign, why can't that person just read it to them them, instead of saying, "here's the sign, go feel it". ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~

Napalm
And if they need someone to show them the sign, why can't that person just read it to them them, instead of saying, "here's the sign, go feel it". What if the person who shows them the sign is mute? Huh? I bet you didn't think about that! *puts on sunglasses and makes a cool exit*
IGoddessI
There are different levels of blindness. Someone may not be able to read letters but have enough sight to make out the sign. Also many blind people have been able to make out "shapes" with different shades of light. What about orientation day for blind people and they're told that they can make their way around the campus by reading the signs? Not everyone wants someone to hold their hand and aid them. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Alg
Sign's going to be Against a wallBy a doorBlind people can still feelSo I'd assume that if they find a door, they will know that there's a sign they can feel near it so they can know where the door leads. Otherwise they'll be scarmbling against the wall on every doorway they find just looking for a braille sign.

And the signs, I'm pretty sure, are standardized at a specific height and location relative to the door.

On-topic, never thought about it that way, but you kinda do have a point. But they probably do have a reason for being there, as in they do get read (something doesn't seem right with that sentence). obfuscator
I guess the OP doesn't seethe point. YYYEEEEEAAAHHH! Aha such win... My question is...does it hurt to have those signs there? Even if one blind person happens to stumple across it, and it helps them, it's worth it.
