Your opinions on making videos using runescape?

 

For me the lack of facial expression on characters or any sort of body posture sort of discourages how many really interesting machinimas are out there. Text appearing above characters in synchronization with audible vox also irritates me. It's the private joke at its most unamusing.

 

I haven't seen too much great camera work with the orb of oculus.

 

Most rs machinima makers seem to focus primarily on editing so much it ruins the RuneScape feel of the machinima. (EDIT: As in, add special effect here, etc :P )

 

Yes, I'm into runescape machinima, I participated in the recent contest. Yes, I'm working on something. No, you probably never heard of me.

 

What about you? Feel free to post any youtube links relevent to.. your post.

RuneScape is definitely harder to work with then other games because of lack of camera control, the Orb of Oculus is a bit unwieldy at best. It takes skill to create a decent video, but they can come out really well if you make good use of emotes, items, etc.

@Bentomat, Rune-Tips.net is not in any way a knockoff of this site. It's a merchanting discussion forum, and I had no clue Tip.It also called themselves Runescape Tips when I named it. He asked where he may have seen me, I told him. But thanks for the helpful tip

 

@overdoziz, any FPS definitely makes better videos then runescape. It's just the manner of the game. But for an RPG, I think there have been some pretty innovative vids made.

Yeah. There aren't many video capture freeware programs out there though...

 

Me Hate Libs.. To a certain extent I agree with you. I sort of get that what-the-hell-am-I-doing feeling with I see any RS machinimas that are made to have an audience with an understanding of the game.

 

Hmm.. I think I'll watch some Halo machinimas before I post anything about them.

Yup, that's me :D

 

Definitely watch some FPS videos, and you'll see why people prefer them to RS ones. Just the "action" factor. TBH, it takes more skill to make a good RS Machinima - you need to work to create a storyline instead of just slicing together random kill sequences.

runescape is awful boring to me now, having met all my main goals since i began in 2001. i see making videos with it as a way to express yourself artistically in a way most cant. its the perfect platform for fantasy based things that you couldnt obviously film in real life. thats why i make runescape videos.

 

i feel like a video is edited well only if it appears as though it were never edited at all. if an editor is doing his job right, no one will notice what hes changed

 

which is why i hate rsmv, most all the same, uncreative, unoriginal BS, all using the same songs by the same artists, with the same effects, and the same outfits.. only very few rsmv's have wowed me

My thoughts exactly on Machinima-music videos.

 

People who don't like machinima don't understand it's relation to normal movies and films. It's not much difference let me tell you.

 

As for RuneScape machinima specifically, the gameplay of the game doesn't allow for much action or detailed scenes. I see this as an disadvantage for you NEED to see something in movies. If not, you might as well just make an audio-story (whatever those are called) since voice talent makes up most of RS machinima. Otherwise, it's hard to get into it.

 

RuneScape isn't the best game to make machinima but I'll still support it. It just requires more creativity and skill to make it effective.

I agree with some of you that some arent really any good but there are a few good ones.

There are a small amount of good music videos about rs but most are quite bad.

Some ones that have been edited proberly look really good. =D>

I remember watching a video called "runescape gods exposed" a while ago which i quite liked, there are a few episodes and here a link for the first one.(+ another link for a music video)

It's not the fact of creating movies about RuneScape, but, just creating a movie with resources available to you. I don't have a decent camera, actors, nor sets to make a "normal" life-action movie. Nor can I draw or have the appropriate software to make cartoons. My third option would have to be video games.

 

The satisfaction comes in the end, when you released your movie and you see a flourish of comments liking your video. Just yesterday I finished my machinima (which took two months to make) and said to myself I won't make a new machinima for a few weeks. Behold, today, I read 8 pages of comments of people absolutely LOVING my movie. (Shameless advertising) Now I can't wait to make another one!
