Music to my ears!

Mayhaps all the arguments that runescape sound quality can not compare to your personal home full orchestra should be left for a rant thread, rather than a thread meant for sharing which compositions we do like?

"Personal home full orchestra"? ROFL, seems like you don't know what "In-house" means.

To begin, I'm surprised to see how well this topic is doing. Lots of different points of view regarding Runescape music make this an interesting read, and both sides have valid points. But one argument that is being used frequently is audio comparison between games that unload music files in completely different ways. Based on the file constraints, I'd say Runescape does a fine job trying to provide "oomph" to our ears. Temple Desecrated builds a sense of urgency with a conch like sound in conjunction with a fast paced beat, while Catacombs and Tombs switches between hard hitting steel drums and various other instruments.

Agreed on point of runescape soundquality being enough for background music, as you are supposed to be concentrating on the game itself.

And "Personal home full orchestra" was sarcasm/exageration if you can't tell. Personally I go by the music halls once a month for a show, even if post processed FLAKs tend to sound much better. That, and I was raised on 8-bit music, so for me it's much more about composition than insturments. I'm also as serious about my kazoo career as guitar for just that reason.

Actually, a WoW track like

is much more "background music" than Runescape music is. Runescape music is very exaggerated in its composition, and rarely has any sweeping, subtle, beautiful tracks that don't take over the game. The reason why so many people turn off Runescape music is that it is so jarring and out of place.

Well, WoW has a different theme. It's trying to be epic fantasy. And that sort of music is just fine for making long walks down the road with your cape flowing behind you. But Runescape is more upbeat and less serrious. Smile as you swing a pick, and while away your cares.

Well, since I am F2P, I can't comment on environment outside of F2P realm. But I thought they did a good job changing music on different section. As someone pointed out, if they expand the audio team more, it might get higher quality in the future. Again if you compare how WOW and RS started out and their operating platform. It would be on totally different scale. If they make PC version of RS just like WoW, I am sure they can hit even more HD with sound and graphic, but of course that would mean it limit a lot of computers to play since being able to play it on any older computer without too much resource was one of its selling point anyways.

a happy Runescaper

Okay, so, we all agree that RS music is pretty low quality in sound but the melodies and compositions are really well made. I agree with that, the RS music is definitely worse quality than certain other games, but the melodies are great and catchy. But isn't the sound quality comparable to graphics? Graphics is usually said to be just a bonus, I would think the same about the sound quality of the music, just a bonus. I mean, think about it, back in the days we were playing SEGA and Super Nintendo where some of the music was 8-bit but was still catchy as hell. I remember loving the music in Super Metroid back in the day, even though the quality was really bad. Who didn't like listening to the low quality music of the Super Mario games?

[insert birds flying in a circle here]

Yes, that sig was annoying.

And let us not forget Final Fantasy 1-6 for some of the best compositions ever as we remember the 8-bit days.

If with "The RuneScape music is catchy" you mean its irritating music which sticks in your head for a week then i agree.

Also, L70ETC (or as they are now called: TAFKAL80ETC) does play ingame in WoW.

This song really blows your mind out.

Everybody wants to go to heaven; but nobody wants to die.
