jasignhagj
LMAO i love how off topic this thread gets... Anyways, The money i spent on Mars travel last decade has been transferred to space programs in general. Ill post more later
archimage_a
It seems unlikely to get filled up too soon. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
archimage_a
Meh, possibly. If you are going to spend 40 years waiting you can't really expect people to keep a space open for you. But, as it is, it will cost a large amount for each base, for a relatively small return...initally...So... http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. archimage_a
Fine by me, though people will doubtlessly claim territory anyway. Anywho, poll finishes whenever I get up tommrow, though it seems pretty conclusive that Retech is getting the moon colony, since no one has offered any money to go with the promises of land, and people are not wholely against it. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Grim_
Due to boredom and the fact that I want to put one project out in the open I will now tell people what the results of Project: Final Frontier are:Mass Driver technology Asteroid miner ships, Combat ships, Colony ships, super freighters (The colony ships with a capacity to move 50,000 people at once)Cryogenics (For use on the colony ships)Rfg technology (Won't be used because of tonnage rules)And last but certainly not least *Dramatic music sounds* The Nova Maria (The first colony ship using mass driver technology)EDITED FOR REALISM
archimage_a
Stations will take at least half a century....once you actually get into space, and probably cost a square trilion each. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. archimage_a
Yes, its going to be a long, hard, gruelling crawl into space, probably filled with Grim getting annoyed and blasting other people's spaceships from his astroid hidey hole Anywho, going to bed. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Icuownage
How'd Grim finish colony space ship research before me :S? It should take 30 years, and todays the 30th day, which means he started it on the first year then O-o? It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? archimage_a
I will point out now...unless you happen to be Grim...and have more money than sense....you will probably be building multi-purpose ships...or very, very, cheap ships which do one task(like land a colony somewhere). Proper ships will take 15 years to build, and cost at least 800 billion, a decent ship will cost double that, and there will be some kind of decade cost of keeping the ship space borne. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Seraphi
>Combat ships Sigh. Was this really necessary? I mean, it's not like we'll be able to find other ships in space... The only purpose ships really serve is orbital bombardment, and with satellites and such, even that is made completely redundant. Along with the fact that for now, we're only able to colonise two planets and a moon, you don't have much to orbitally bombard. (Assuming we're going to be playing more realistically this time? In real life, locating and intercepting a ship that was trying to be stealthy and not blaring out "WE ARE HERE" signals, would be utterly impossible.) Grim_
*cough* Alien Npc's *cough* Anyways You lot can have your sol colonies (Mining stations over Gas giants is where it's at)
archimage_a
Its all part of the grand plan to make ships which you can actually care, slightly, about.I got annoyed when people built flagships which they then blew up and build more flagships...in the first Hegemony. So the new ships will be more expensive, and more planning will be involved in making them....attaching 80 billion goalkeeper guns to it won't be good enough. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. Icuownage
Gas giants would F you S up. Not only do they have mass amounts of debris which are severly damaging to a ship, their gravity will probably de-orbit your ship making it collide with the planet. so 1.6 Trillion for a decent colony ship? 15 years construction? O_O! Ok, this is going to take longer than expected, perhaps 12 years longer, but no worries, gives an extra decade to spend money on the ship. If we can save up 4.6 trillion we will have two colonies plus a decent ship. Or 3.8 if we just want a good one. We can make that. Theres 3 decades. It's a REALLY big shaft.I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time? Grim_
Bah assuming that the colony ship is scrapped work on two ships are started 1: A decent colony ship (read as low cost as I can get it) and two: A multi purpose ship that would function as a base for mining, a freighter and an impromptu production station (Note it also has a refinery)EDIT: Oh and icu I meant within the general location (So if I overshoot with asteroids then they simply fall into the planet)

Wisp
A space ship doesn't cost trillions, infact I'd be surprised if a full functioning ship costed past 100Billion, It's basically a large ship with a few attatchments.A space shuttle for like 4 people costs like 35 billion. Just saying. A colony ship for 50k people would cost trillions upon trillions, I think. Just saying. Idk about Archi, but anything less than 10 trillion is low. Wisp
In any case, Italy begins the Matter gates wonder. Each person who joins takes one year off, and will allow them to build the gates. Who wants in? Grim, could I get a donation to it, since I can't afford the 8b cost? Hegemony-Spain
Icuownage
I say having a production facility would put a strain on the life support systems due to the toxic chemicals in almost every modern production, dumping them somewhere would deplete the oxygen quicker, meaning the ship has to make regular landings, costing a lot more. Not only that, but that would be massive to have a refinery on the ship itself, adding 100's of billions to the cost, why not just have the refinery on your own planet, the ship goes out on a large collection mission, comes back, your RICH. Rinse and repeat. India joins in on the Matter gates, we want a matter gate :D.
