Status: (Semi-)Retired

 

"Why don't you quit runescape? It's a kids' game, I'm glad I quit. However I still frequent fansites to tell people off for how much of a nolife nerd worthless 12 year old everyone who plays runescape is.

No grief against people who quit and don't try to shove it down others' throats.

It's always funny when updates come out and at least one person with "retired" on their name posts something like

 

"wow that update is terrible, glad I stopped playing months ago lol good luck with that guys."

 

because it begs the question as to why someone who quit, and apparently gladly, is still frequenting a fan site for the game.

Hm, I just set mine to Semi-Retired because I played on holidays and I know I'm not going to be interested in Dungeoneering for long.

 

Should I just remove it then? Its a factor for consideration when I give advice.

Well, I can only speak for myself. I fall into this category, so I'll explain why I do this.

 

I did not leave Runescape because I hate it, I left because most of my friends don't play anymore, and double exp weekends. If Jagex turns its back to double exp weekends I MIGHT return. As for the looking at updates and commenting on how bad they are? It's simple; I left Runescape and I'm glad I did, but part of me misses it. But after seeing another crappy update that I don't like. I'm glad I see I don't have a reason to come back. I remember the misery of grinding levels, the lack of community, the lack of reward for grinding. If a good enough update came out, I might just find myself back in that endless grind. So you could say it's relief. Like a retired man who makes money pointing and laughing at someone busting their arse for peanuts.

I tend to not value retired players opinion much... They usually have no grasp on the current gameplay to have any impact on an argument. I'm also aware that lots of "retired and semi-retired" players actually play the game and only live in denial.

A lot of my classmates are retired, and they say Runescape sucks, it's graphic fails, it's old game, etc etc etc. One even said it was a "20th century game". :blink:

 

Really, retired people, stop thinking your opinions are superior to ours. If anything, your opinions are inferior, since you guys do not play the game anymore and do not know what is currently happening.

Unlikely. I've seen plenty of rants on Tip.It over the years of people who talk about how much better the old days were, and they have no idea what they're talking about even though they played at the time, but are instead looking back with rose tinted glasses.

I also didn't leave RS because I hate it - I left because I got bored of it. I still frequent this fansite because of the community we have here, not because I have any interest in the game.

 

And I reserve any posts similar to the example for major updates only, I think dungeoneering was the only think I'd ever posted something like that on.

Most people are just nostalgic idiots ranting about the removal of the wilderness, but I'm quite sure there are intelligent people there who can make a good thread about some historical events (e.g. some historical articles in the Tip.It Times).

I haven't heard much of this on TIF, but it's quite common elsewhere.

 

I really wonder what motivates these people.
