Not true at all, im taking grade 11 biology atm and we have discussed several differen't types of food poisening such as Salomella, Bochulism, and E-Coli. You can get any type of poisening from any food, and I really really doubt that fruits and such have a better chance at getting poisening, although it may be from the pestisides that they are sprayed with to keep the bugs off, it all depends on how well they are cleaned

Contaminated fruits and vegetables are causing more food-borne illness among Americans than raw chicken or eggs, consumer advocates said a in report released on Monday.

What. The. Hell.

Of course contaminated food products are going to be more likely to cause illness! It's like saying bullets are more likely to puncture your lungs than clouds. Your title, in comparison, is stating that veggies, sources of many a nutrient, will cause you more illness compared to...well, nothing, as your title leads us to believe.

Margaret Beckett made a claim rather similar to this about eggs and salmo and, needless to say, has been ridiculed ever since. Keep making foregone conclusions and misleading topic titles and your "Most ignored Poster" tag couldn't be anymore justified.

Horrible spelling is the main cause of my sickness.

Yeah, and complete agreement to bubsizzle.

Jeesh, Bubsa, that's harsh. Did you even read the article? Did any of you even read the article?

Overall, contaminated tomatoes, sprouts and other produce made 28,315 people sick during 554 outbreaks from 1990 to 2003

Chicken made 14,729 people sick in 476 outbreaks, and eggs were responsible for 10,847 illnesses from 329 outbreaks, according to the group.

This is a study comparing what percent of food poisoning comes from what types of food. And, surprisingly, produce was more dangerous than chicken or eggs.

How is that a stupid statement? No one was saying "OMG stop eaxting teh vejjeez th3y wiil pwn j00!" They're just comparing the risks of food poisoning between different food groups.

Maybe the thread title needs a little editing, but cmon.... It's an interesting article. Why are you all jumping on Shippou?

finalsig9wq.gif

The article was drawing attention to the increasing need for awareness of the neccessary steps to insure a more safer produce consumption.

In other words, due to the more "endangering" circumstances under which fruits and vegetables are being grown and the fact that pathogens stick to their surface relatively easily, a greater percentage of them are becoming contaminated. The purpose of the article was to bring attention to this and to warn produce consumers that because of this new risk they should take greater precaution by washing their produce more often and more thoroughly. The last part of the article was about ways to protect the general public from outbreaks.

The article seems pretty fine to me. But maybe I should just ignore that since he did misspell a word ^^^

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

lol, all the article does is asking people to have common sense, something people are seriously lacking these days.

I skim through that article and those stats really have little weight behind them... all it does is all it does is tell people that they can get food poisoning from eating food... It doesn't compare the amount of each type of food consumed to the numbered that got poisoned by the product.

I am willing to bet that a greater quantity of veges and fruit are eaten by a greater number of people than chicken and eggs.

So they should propably do a study on how likely each food types are likely to poison you than the amount of people that's been poison.

image1ne5.png

No [cabbage] you can get food poisoning from eating food. I've heard stuff about increasing your risk of getting some kind of good piosoning if you cut meat and then veggies without cleaning the knife (or something like that).

And a whole heap of other trash which is also most likely BS.

I've had food piosoning before, amusingly enough from eating meat. Never come across people who has gotten it from eating still fresh veggies / fruit :-?

Rather eat home grown vegetables then this rotting dead flesh http://www.meetyourmeat.com

I don't know about other places, but that is most DEFINITELY not the way we do it here ;)

(except the de-horning, we do that....)

I would rather have a medium-rare steak over veggies anyday :P

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

Of course the meat that people eat is not rotting. You are posting propaganda from a bias organisation.

On a side note I read an article recently about people becoming ill from bottled spring water ^_^ Too much "good" bacteria in it or something lol

I read the article man, that's why I concluded what Shippou said was dumb and unfounded. As you said, the article in no way says veggies are bad for you, but contaminated veggies are. Whereas, the topic leads me to believe that vegetables will make me sick. The author simply makes a topic, makes a claim and supports it with something completely different to what they've claimed. To me, that's stupid.

A little more than "here's something interesting *link*" wouldn't have gone a miss. I appreciate Shipp's first language may not be English, but if he could read the article, he could have at least justified what he was posting.

and some wonder why i do not post in this forum any more. To those that do not like my spelling, go jump of Baxton Falls, and stop reading my postings, because there are misspellings dating all the way back to AUG 2001, and if you's havent figured out i can not spell in 4 years, oh well. I love the kids saying numbers of food poisioning cases from Vegis (released by the Department of Health) are false, those who do not read the artical, and leave way off coments, and those that say the artical is false because it never happened in their area (remember Chi-chi's incident were several DIED from E. Coli ((bad onions)) ).

I admit the thread topic "veggies are more likely to make you sick" was misleading. I can see why you might get PO'd for thinking you were going to find a generic health article and instead finding an article about food poisoning. But anyway, Shippou edited it, so that's fixed. And Shippou said right at the beginning:

Here is an inetresting artical about food poisioning. produce causes more cases of food related illness now than poltery

The claim that Shippou made was that "produce causes more cases of food related illness now than poltery," which is exactly what the article is about. It was easily misunderstood, but the basic point of the post was about contaminated foods, not veggies in general. Given that, I think the general reaction to this post was extremely harsh.

Hmmmm, I seem to be disagreeing with everybody lately....

Time to find a 'feel-good' post and spread the love 8)

Why would we wonder if you're the most ignored poster? :?
