It all boils down to what exactly you want to play. If you want to play FPSes, you might want a mouse with a higher DPI. If you play RTSes, you probably won't need such high DPI. It helps if you could post the specifications of the mouse you hope to buy.

I prefer the MX518.

It's the same thing as the G5 minus the custom weights and the LCD display for setting different modes of sensitivity.

I used MX518 for 7 years until upgrading to G5 :).

Heh, I've always used cheap mice from Argos, but I've heard a lot of good things about the G5.

Optical vs. laser, also even base weight the G5 is a little more. The g5 used to also only have one thumb button though it looks like from the pics that the new ones have two thumb buttons. Then there is the wheel differences, thought they may have also changed those.

Plus there is the price difference.

Yeah mine has the two thumb buttons. As far as the wheel goes the biggest difference I think is it's a bit more difficult to MMB click in and you can move the MMB left and right.

So point taken :P. I still prefer the G5 though personally.

I've used the G5 and I prefer the Razer Deathadder over it. The shape & feel of the mouse and the firmware customizations are just too good to pass up (if you're going to be gaming). It also tracks a lot better than the G5 does, in my opinion.

I think you got that mixed up. Generally an FPS player will benefit from low CPI/DPI for accuracy.

I will recommend the razer deathadder (original or 3.5G) but theres also,

Steelseries Xai (not reliable)

Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical 1.1 Mouse

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0

MX518

That comes to the player himself. Me I prefer having a higher DPI and so does many people.

I also prefer to use a lower DPI setting when I play an FPS. Too high and I'm all over the place. I have it on maximum when I'm playing an RTS as well.
