Chaotic Rapier at Waterfiends

With maxed melee/turm/OL, could chaotic rapier beat SS at waterfiends?

Why don't you just use turm/ovl with ss then? Surly that's better than turm/ovl with rapier?

Not necessarily. SS will be more accurate but Rapier will be more damaging. The question is how much more inaccurate Rapier will be.

Well thats exactly the point, do the higher bonuses from rapier make up for the loss of a crush option.

 

I heard things about whip not being all that bad for fiends so you could try it, maul would probably still be better though.

Thing is, I don't have either rapier or maul. And I'd prefer to get rapier as my first weapon.

 

I'm pretty sure rapier would be better. With Ardycape/Defender, the stab bonus is like +121. With full gear (gloves, fury), stab bonus would be about +143. Strength bonus with defender would be 106, versus SS's 82.

I`ve seen some players on fiends useing whip as theres weapon. They got really inaccurate hits, but high damage - on task of cours.

I don't know of anyone who's done any real testing at waterfiends with a chaotic rapier. Maybe you could be the first. *shrug*

I havn't tested this as i've only had one waterfiend tasks as of yet while having a rapier, and i just assumed it'd be rubbish there. If i happen to get a task any time soon i'd be happy to test this out, but i wouldn't get my hopes up for it as even gs-es are much worse on slash vs crush(132 slash vs 80 crush).

I tried rapier, it sucks there. I was getting ~20% fewer charms then with SS (although I used ext not ovl, but that's still a big diff).

I just tried it. With ardy cape and normal berserker ring( 142 stab 134 str) i gained 139488 experience in 57 minutes, assuming 6,33(4+1,33+1) xp per hit that's 23k slayer/ 92,7k attack xp an hour. Not sure on how this compares but i think zs/ss beat it by not alot.

 

This was done in the ancient caverns(so no steel titans or any other familiars) using overload and turmoil. If anyone has some stats of how this would compare to a similar setting with the other weapons i'd be very interested.

 

Edit: Just finished the last little bit of the task with zs and soul wars cape, otherwise same setup( 87 crush 103 str) and over a 7 minute period(very small timeframe) got 167k overall xp an hour, which is 114% better than what i got with rapier, so overall, if you really can't afford zs/ss(which is almost impossible assuming you have cr), the rapier is a useable option there if you can afford the bonuses.

Theres no guarantee the maul will be significanly better than zs/ss there because of the speed... I'm not really sure getting the maul for an insignifican't boost at wf's is worth not having a rapier, which is useful for everything. I'm most likely getting the maul as soon as i can just for waterfiends(because i'd be able to afford both).

Have you considered using piety instead of turmoil?

If you have a pony, you won't need soul split, and if you do them in the ancient cavern, you definitely won't need soul split.

I say piety because wfs have vitually no melee stats, so you actually get LESS of a bonus than what piety gives you.

 

Piety > turmoil , with respect to % boosted

Turmoil > piety, with respect to pray drain.
