I can assist with Project Scorpio, which I think is necessary to reveal now.

It's essentially a repeating ballista which fires like, a shot per second. Very, very good as a defensive placement on walls and towers.

I know it seems kind of unimpressive, but I have confirmation from Retech that fielded right, it is extremely powerful, which is why I wanted to keep it secret.

Still, sounds like it could be used in the next defensive operation.

Useful!?! Something tells me that those things could be used to destroy war elephants (large slowish target that gets hurt when a bolt/large rock is hit by it) as well as enough of them laying waste to formations of infantry (well shield walls).

You know elephants get scared reallly easy right? Also without a rider they wander about charging anything.... And the fact that they can easily be used to our advantage.

My plan for defeating the Persians was basically incorporating this, but I failed to submit it in time so I was unable to help.

Now it just costs to my time a resource to kill those elephants out right, and even if you do kill one there are still many many left and an entire army.

So what I suggest is to use scare tactics (flame weapons, loud noises)

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

It's also impossible for the time period's technology.

Definately plausible, but it would require a team per station, which most siege weapons do anyway... Just it would require a large team to keep it going.

Edit

Inb4 "Scorpio only required one man to use" Yeah, but if you notice a scorpio has no real place to put a repeating magazine, it already had a very high fire rate, so I imagine that to increase it would just require more men.

I mean it is said on wikipedia to fire 3 to 4 per minute, that is just the basic scorpio.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

It does, and it's all worked out. No electricity, no steam power. Hell, it doesn't even use elastic or rope or anything.

And my version doesn't carry the drawbacks such as being weaker, and it reloads itself automatically, too, so improved accuracy is assured.

I was asking Retech for a price on them, but I don't think he gave me one. I need to know how much a cart mounted one would cost, and how much a stationary one would be.

Scorpios were inventions of the Romans, and they were really quite useful, they were one maneed sniper places really, that could be fired quite rapidly and could even out right kill a guy from really far away.

Though they disappeared through this century, but Ross did research em. Normally though, if you increase rate of fire, you decrease damage. So he has probably just invented some medium powerful chainbow.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

Byzantium Army: 10,000 Byzantine Cataphracts with 5m left to spend.

Cataphracts fill the roles of both archer and lancer excellently.

As per dusty's advice, the byzantine navy is positioned along the bosphorous, with ballista support from the shores aswell, and flaming arrows ready to go.

So when you scale it up, it becomes stronger.

LOGIC!

Perhaps.

But, he's also scaled up the rate of fire (which would be impossible - larger munitions take longer to load or else WW2 battlfields would've been filled with these. He's also somehow invented some way for them to automatically reload, which would further reduce the damage output of the weapon.

raaaaarrgghhh!!! techy, im talking about the troops sctattered along the sides, the 7500 sb's and 5000 axemen you have never, ever, EVER factored into any of the fights i effing sent them to. i just ound a use for the lazy bastards, specified in the pm i sent you. also the second pm, about the training program, thats where the reinforcements will come from, ive just extended it to include mele troops as well... also, id prefer even defences, groiwng in strength as the numbers increase. so small groups at first, then bigger ones.

Sigh...someone send some troops to cut the mongol supply lines...

Mongols are pillagers(by this game's misunderstanding of history), thus will not have long term plans for the territory they have conquered, so will have harvested and not re-sown, expecting food from their supplies/next conquest.

Thus cutting off their supply forces them to attack, retreat or die.

Meaning all the troops we have, not riding in Asia, destroying supply wagons, can be put on the defensive and absorb the trust of their assult with minimal casualties.

If you wanted to near guarentee there attack location you would subtling tell them that all your grain was at some remarkably accessible compound, not too far over the border.

The attack is innevitable, but this way you force them to fight now, rather than later

If they retreat then it gives you time to try to come up with proper plans rather than 'Ah, a Mongol. Ah, another Mongol. Ah, another...' Plans like cutting their supply chains and taking back the initative.

If they just hang around uselessly(as is the invarible Hegemony tactic) then they will die of starvation/disperse for foraging, and thus be easy pray for mop up forces.

Worst case scenario is 5,000 lightly armed soliders are killed by a the suprisingly well reinforced supply chain.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

How many of those ballistas would you give me for 6 million?

The way I've been doing siege weapons, in a sufficiently large army, if you have the technology or someone gives them to you, I can assume that the army has siege weapons, unless you were travelling through a mountain chain at a full gallop or something.

I assure you, it is a very simple method, and Retech can confirm that.

I've made it faster than a regular ballista, whilst having almost nil impact on strength.

Yep, he has this fun diagram.

The latest PMs only stated that you were building a border guard with Dungeonal on the Kievan border, but I had no idea what soldiers you had put on that border. Further, I didn't know what kind of border you were setting up (several medium sized armies, smaller ambushes, etc). Also, I was not sure if Dungeonal was raising new troops for the border or he was using the ones further in Asia, so I could not do anything about that.

I still can't see how you can make it fire faster without removing something, the scorpio is a tiny little sniping post. I want to atleast see the diagram, cause it is currently perplexing me.

News has finally reached the royal courts of Europe that the great Khan died in his sleep, causing a conflict between his many sons. Each of these sons have taken over part of the expansive empire (with the exception of the European part, led by Subatai). Their combined power is still less than the might of the Mongol empire before it, but each nation is still very powerful.

Subatai requests a peace treaty with the European nations involved in the war. The terms would be the cessation of hostilities, and each side would retain territory they currently occupy.

Weird first time I heard about Subutai was yesterday in a cracked article, then you start talking about him. This stuff always happens with things I learn, I learn it and then someone near me suddenly begins talking about it.

Great example is when I studied the first English monarch, someithng begining with A the great, then suddenly the news the next day is that they have possibly found a new first English monarch who surpasses the previously mentioned man. I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Also I ask to meet this Subutai, no armies, no traps, no killing eachother. I just want to talk to him.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

Okay. Since this is basically peace-time, then I'll let you post stuff on the thread, unless it's really important, where you should PM if hostilities ever break out again.

Also, I am almost done with the world map. It will have the Americas on it, but I just want to leave it incase we ever go there in the future, but it will be currently inaccessable.

Also, working out coloniaztion/exploration rules, so you can start sending your explorers to die of diseases in the jungles of South-east Asia, or maybe even have a puppet government in an Asian country.

Brief history of what has happened in Asia:

Mongols conquer everything except Japan, which manages to repulse the Mongols

Mongolian empire fractures (it actually happened a few years sooner than you were informed, since the Mongols were covering up the Khan's death)

Persia regains independance under the Persian Caliphate as a result of an assimilation of the Mongolians in the area to Islam

China regains independance as the Song Dynasty, controlling the main bulk of China

Japan becomes the only unscathed power in Asia, and gains a foothold in mainland Asia. Has gone considerable lengths to creating a professional army

Khmer Empire, based in South-east Asia, continues flourishing. Pre-industrial, but large population centers

Sultanate of Kedah continues to rules over parts of Indonesia and Malaysia. One of the first Islamic powers in the region
