Also, the gunpowder the Mongols were using were closer to firing firecrackers at people than anything really dangerous. The fear effect of gunpowder + Mongol fear effect was why it was so devastating.

 

I am going to allow it, but it isn't actually as powerful as it first seems. 500,000 for a single mercenary team, or 200,000 for an Asian country to purchase.

It probaly isn't worth it at five hundred thousand for the weapon and its team, but it should be an option. This is the farthest gunpowder is ever going to go, but it seems plausible that it could be used in some strategic functions. Note that the Mongols had around ten or so contraptions per army, and they were only so frightful because it was the first use, and they were the Mongols.

 

Note how you could afford five hundred Hlaupari at the same price, or 330 or so Cataphracts.

Spanish Invasion of Northern Africa

 

The Spanish army crossed over the straits of Gibraltar, moving with lightning speed towards the Moorish capital of Marrakesh, led by Crown Prince Ferdinand the second. They easily overcame the local resistance of village militias and occupied the northern part of the country with few losses. Through deft manuevering and forward planning, the Spanish army completely avoided the deserts common in the region, relying on the sparse strips of dried grasslands for safety against the desert storms.

 

Unfortunately, expected Welsh reinforcements did not arrive because of the recent turnover in the Welsh military, a necessity when replacing a feudal army with a professional one. Regardless, the Spanish invaders ountnumbered and outgunned the army of the Moors, which were mostly defeated and demoralised after their defeat in Iberia. Their Egyptian allies had been crushed by the Mongol invaders and the new government occupying Cairo and Alexandria, though Muslim in religion, preferred repairing their damaged country before aiding their allies.

 

The Spainish Juggernaut reached Marrakesh, a city standing in in the midst of the desert. Its outlying areas were irrigated and supplied by a nearby river, allowing the city to support such a large population. After speaking with his advisors, Prince Ferdinand decided to storm the city, fearing that the Moors could find reinforcements in the nearby Zeirids. The city garrison had been alerted and their soldiers were at the walls.

 

The battle began with the crackling sound of Spanish stone launched from their catapults striking Marrakesh's wooden walls. This caused some of the garrison to fly off and crash into nearby houses. The garrison quickly reacted and pulled inside the city, hiding behind the walls instead of ontop them. The Spanish catapults soon ran out of boulders to fire and resorted to firing local camels and oxen, but the damage was less severe.

 

By then, the walls had dozens of holes, ten or twenty feet across. Prince Ferdinand sent in two thousand men at arms, accompanied by two thousand spearmen, and five hundred knights. The spearmen charged in front, absorbing the arrow fire by the Moorish archers. When they reached the main breach, the spearmen broke off and supported the rear, while the men at arms tore through the enemy militia. Suddenly the Spanish forces broke off in "fear" and the Moors followed them, eager to get revenge for their defeats in Iberia. Three thousand Spanish Jinetes bounded out of their lines and came close to the charging Moors and threw their javalins at point-blank range, decimating them. The initial Spanish force rushed into the breach, and began charging down the street to the market square, when they encountered the Urban guard, an elite unit of heavily armored spearmen. Despite their best efforts, the first Spanish charge was beaten back and they retreated back to Spanish lines.

 

Prince Ferdinand was understadably furious and responded by sending in the rest of his infantry. Three thousand spearmen, one thousand men at arms, 300 Spanish knights, two thousand swordsmen, and three thousand Knights of Santiago charged towards the market square, and once again encountered the Urban guard. They were quickly flanked and surrounded on all sides by the Urban guard on one end, and hordes of cheap Moorish militia on the others. When it looked like the Spanish would perish where they stood, Prince Ferdinand charged into the rear of a group of Moorish militia with three thousand Jinetes. The Moorish militia began to rout, leaving only the Urban guard. The Knights of Santiago led a charge with Prince Ferdinand at its head and managed to hack through the first row of Urban militia. As the second row tried to lower their shields and regroup, the Knights of Santiago had regrouped and charged once again. While most could not pass the shields, instead finding openings and taking advantage of them, some of the knights fought under the shields and into the formation, slashing wildly at the exposed innards.

 

The Moors quickly surrendered after their Urban guard was destroyed, handing control to the Spaniards.

Kievan Invasion of European Mongolia

 

Blood in their minds and gore in their hearts, the Kievan army marched from Kiev to the east, then back again into Poland, to defeat the Mongolian hordes which had taken the area several years ago. The massive army marched loudly into Mongolian territory and began the siege of a citadel in Southern Poland, which had been converted into the territory of Subutai, the great Mongolian warlord. Scouts have detected a relatively small Mongolian garrison, meaning that starving them out would take several years.
