Can we please keep in mind that it wasn't until the 1400s that large scale expeditions were possible to Asia and the Pacific. So, taking over the throne of Sri Lanka would be useless as all they'd have to do is rebel and you'd have no way of getting troops over there to stop them.

Easy way to prevent that Rocco, other than metagaming, is to incite a full scale civil war and fracture the country entirely, meaning that whoever owns the splinters afterwards needs to spend a heckton of money repairing everything.

Okay, now that everyone is calm, I can explain the situation. Okay, first on the issue of monopolisation. Icu researched a unique alchemical process which generates a higher quality of silver. That is what he has a monopoly on, not silver in general. Remember monopoly doesn't necessarily mean total control of a market, just a high degree of control.

 

As for China, it is a fractured and destroyed country. Its government doesn't have a firm grip on its people, meaning that in all likelyhood, Icu will only have one claim out of many to the throne. That would probaly require heavy investment to secure that claim. Sri Lanka is small and full of peasants, meaning it is only controlled by local strongmen. Local strongmen like marrying up the ladder with royalty, but they have many rivals. It is more like forming an alliance.

 

Larger more stable nations like Japan will be harder to marry in to. Rather, you may be able to secure a royal marriage alliance, but inheriting the country would require heavy investment, defeating rivals, and all that stuff. Inheritance is not supposed to be an easy way out. :thumbup:
