skylor12344
Ok so i love both skills and i really want to get 99 in one or the other. Im not sure i can afford 99 range but im sure i can afford 99 mage. Which one would be more useful overall? I like going to dks although im not good at it but i tend to stay away from GWD so please keep that in mind. EDIT: Also i have about 30m to spend overall and i can get more if i need to. Everyonedies
You can get 99 range for a very low cost just make your own arrows or bolts its slower then doing it the fast way but it wont cost you very much. You can even semi afk it by wearing your best defence gear and go range lower level agressive monsters with a ava's backpack on. Just check back like every once in a while to make sure the npcs are still agro. http://www.clanhavok.net/
Bladewing
Ranged is much more useful. The only time I use magic is teleporting, alching drops, and killing Ice wyrms and Dagannoth Rex. How to Chin Nechyraels for fast XP and profit

Bows
I suggest that you get the 99 that you enjoy most out of the two, and also train them the way you enjoy the most as well. Have fun and good luck! :)
Knight_Zaros
I suggest that you get the 99 that you enjoy most out of the two, and also train them the way you enjoy the most as well. Have fun and good luck! :) This and more of this. We can't make the choice for you. I will say in terms of boss fighting 99 range will help your out more than 99 magic. Pvp and mini games magic would probably be better and certainly more fun. Having magic in the 80's is more than enough to use magic anywhere you really need too. So by purpose I say range. But I love magic personally more fun for me since why magic is my highest Please Visit my Blog!- Experienced Monster Hunter - Forced Retirement Staker - Privite Chat is always ON -1 Draconic Visage 26 Dragon Drops 1 GWD Drops 17 DK Drops 13 Coinshared Items
Saru Inc
99 Range is balls cheaper than mage. Even if you just curse or alch your way to 99. I prefer ranging, though I dislike range training. If that makes sense, so I'm chinning to 99 Range. Than going on a ranging monster hunt spree. But do which ever 99 you want, as it takes a decent amount of time, so make sure you enjoy it. (But range is cheaper with more practical uses) Fyi, at 83 Prayer, 90-99 range is costing me 25-30mish, incase you want to know a money answer. And thats with red chins, grey chins are like half the price, for the same xp, literally. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. thunderlord
I would personally go for 99 mage, but i barely range.99 mage for magic defence, and you have all the spells (spellbook swap, vengeance)
skylor12344
hmm defo looking deeper into range but i was thinking about 81-90 bronze knifes on yaks in full void then 90-99 chins
Gilformen
i mainly got 99 magic since i like how the cape looks and i enjoy the skill. range is much more useful for combat, slayer, or monster hunting. you could always do avs or dragons or other profitable monsters for range and use it to pay for magic. 32,606th to 99 magic || 15,388th to 99 dungeoneering || 12,647th to 99 farming14,792nd to 99 range || 24,954th to 99 herblore
Zaaps1
How does one afford 99 magic but not ranged? Ranged is a lot cheaper than magic and is functionally better, both because of the wider applications and because you will have more money leftover to make even more money. This means you will get 99 range AND magic sooner if you got ranged first than if you got magic first (or, at least you should). ~It's Super Effective! Low C
Ranged for dag kings, and armadyl. Magic doesn't make as big of an impact as ranged does in my opinion. Try for 95 mage while you train ranged and you should be happy with both.
geesch
I would get at least 94 mage before range any day. The ability to barrage is huge in my books. That allows you to get crimsons amazingly fast (key reason), and is great fun for pvp minigames (who doesnt love barraging rushers in cwars?) Ever since i started training range 4 years ago, I hated it. Things have changed in training now, but, similar to taste aversion, it takes only one bad experience for your mind to be made. Having said that, having both 99's would be great. Perfect for bossing, once i get the skills to do so...

Lap
Theres an AoW guide on chinning that I used for 99 range, with full calculations that were pretty accurate most of the time. I suggest 99 range. You can make more money by killing @ armadyl and stuff like that in order to then afford 99 mage. I assume that you are bad at making decisions based on personal taste (purely in this context), so you probably want the empirics of it. 45,657th to 99 Range 29/09/09 , 41,018th to 99 Mage 13/11/09__________________
Bloodstain
Red vs Grey Chinchompas Grey chinchompas used to be extremely underrated, but this has changed with the times and they are now slightly overrated.. At level 99, one can get about 200 xp per grey as opposed to 260 xp per red. This means that red chinchompas give about 30% more xp than greys. Due to price fluctuations, the relative efficiency of one chinchompa over the other continuously changes. Therefore, when making the choice you should decide based on current prices. You can calculate the weighted efficiency (defined as the xp/hr you would get if factoring in the time taken to make the money to pay for the costs) via the following formula: Relative Efficiency of Red Chinchompas = 1.2977*(n+total cost of greys/hr)/(n+total cost of reds/hr) where n is one's earning capacity, measured in terms of gp/hr. The derivation of 1.2977 is unimportant and independent of one's ranging level, equipment, or ranging style. We shall call it the Ranging Constant. Total cost is calculated by adding up chinchompa cost and potion cost. As a general estimate about 1300 chinchompas are used per hour, while the number of potions used depends of course on one's ranging and prayer levels. If the relative efficiency of red chinchompas is greater than 1, then they should be used; otherwise, grey chinchompas should be used, assuming that there are no feasible non-chinchompa methods of training ranging.
