Power metal that simply goes too far...

Now don't get me wrong. Power metal is one of my favourite genres. I can tolerate cheesiness like Hammerfall's Way of the Warrior. I'll even defend Dream Evil's Book of Heavy Metal. However, the line has to be drawn somewhere, and for me the line will be drawn here. It's the video of the song 'Ancient Forest of Elves by Luca Turilli, the guitarist of Rhapsody. Over the years I've built up a high tolerance for this sort of stuff, but this is just too much. Ignoring the fact that the music is mediocre at best, it is one of the most rediculous music videos I've seen in years. Grown men prancing around in a forest wearing cloaks and tights and wielding plastic swords and shields? With LARP-commercials like this for music videos, how are we ever supposed to be taken seriously?

If they write lyrics like this:

Old lands and red dragons filled his open eyes

Kings, queens and proud warriros in his magic dreams

Mystical energies led him straight there

To the lonely holy wild path

I'm not surprised they walk around in tights with plastic shields and swords. The lyrics are just as ridiculous as their videoclip. Led Zeppelin has done a simmilar thing though, you can see it on the DVD "The Song Remains the Same".

I crossed the valleys the dust of midlands

to search for the third key to open the gates

Now I?m near the altar the secret inside

as legend told my beloved sun light the dragon?s eyes

On the way to the glory I?ll honor my sword

to serve right and justice for all

Finally happened the sun lit their eyes

the spell was creating strange games of light

Thanks to hidden mirrors I found my lost way

over the stones I reached the place it was a secret cave

In a long bloody battle that prophecies told

the light will prevail hence wisdom is gold

For the king for the land for the mountains

for the green valleys where dragons fly

for the glory the power to win the black lord

I will search for the emerald sword

Only a warrior with a clear heart

could have the honor to be kissed by the sun

Yes, I?m that warrior I followed my way

led by the force of cosmic soul I can reach the sword

On the way to the glory I?ll honor my sword

to serve right ideals and justice for all

For the king for the land for the mountains

for the green valleys where dragons fly

for the glory the power to win the black lord

I will search

good lord. this just enhances my hatred for choreographed videos.

If you ask me, band performing on stage/in some sort of awesome setting is more than enough for a video. otherwise it just gets corny...i cant even stand weird acting like in Trivium - Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr...the odd guy who paints the Ascendancy cover. Even that's lame.

That is just hilarious. OK, they can play some guitar, but I doubt they have more than a few braincells.

This is a videoclip that a 10 year old boy would make, not adult metalheads.

There are so many different types of metal out there that you would never think of. For example there is NintendoCore from Horse The Band that sound different from other metal types but I think are a really good band. Now for this metal type, it's probably some english based band that is really into there Medevil time period.

This might just be one video clip, and I don't know, is it even the full band rhapsody?

Thing is, Rhapsody is an amazing band. Are their stuff about medival / fantasy times? Yes, and it's amazing.

Anyways, power metal is my favorite genre. There are those few things that i'm ... eh about (I love the song Book of heavy metal, but not one of my favorite songs, it's alright at best)

and btw, agreed, Sonata Arctica = owns. One of my favorite bands. :)

edit: good, it's not rhapsody. :D
