Farming Herb extremely overdue

What's the deal with herb growth time in farming? Rarely I get herb that's pass 1 hour 30 min and it keep won't grow waaaaay pass normal growth time. Why the hell?

Just today I planted herb seed at 4:45 pm (I noted it in rs note) then about 6:30 pm, I thought time to get herb and replant seed. I gathered 2 herb patch, then on my 3rd herb patch visit, herb there wasn't finish. Every time I see that, I normally do something else small, like thieving Master Farmer, did that every 10 minutes, check the herb, wasn't finish every 10 minutes. After that I decided just log off and do something else, house chore, watch online videos, dinner, stuff.. check every 15 minutes, it won't grow still.

It finally grow somewhere in middle of these time 10:30 to 10:55 pm. I had to wait more than 6 hours to wait on that stupid herb. It makes me want to quit farming. I'm done with RS for today.. I didn't do much in RS, I could have gone grinding hunter from 85 to 88 or something if this didn't happen. It makes me so mad. Why Jagex hasn't fix it? Did they just make it like that in there to annoy people?

It makes me want to just plant herb in morning, then ignore farm entire day, then replant herb before my bed time from now on.

Hacked 10 years old account, permamently quit if Jagex doesn't return items.

Growth cycles reset at each log-on. If you would of not logged on every 15 minutes it would have grown faster.

This. I have an amulet of nature bound to my last patch so that I always know when they're finished.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

They do? How long is each growth cycle?

5 minutes is wrong, I'm sure it's some number between 17 and 20 minutes. RS wiki says 20 minutes, and that could be right, I just don't know.

I think 5 minutes may be the sub-cycle, as I've always thought as 20 mins/cycle.

What the [bleep] is a sub cycle

Read this topic, zaaps understands it better than I do.

I smell a troll. Anyone who believed this should really think more. Sure trees can be a bit overdue but has any other player had herbs 30+ minutes overdue?

Yes. 2 hours in fact, since I was Rune mining that entire time and world hopping.

This is a quote from my farming guide, where I explain why this happens.

You see, farming is calculated by real life time (the seconds standard). It's calculated by "ticks". These ticks mark the growth of your plant. A tick occurs every couple of minutes (roughly 1-3, hard to pinpoint exactly), and a certain amount of ticks must elapse before a certain plant can grow.

When you see a plant, you can divide its growth in visible "stages". In other words, if it looks bigger, it's more fully grown than if it's smaller. Pretty simple. However, these stages are further divided into invisible "substages", each being the length of a tick. These ticks are synchronized to the server, which is why a plant can seemingly grow right as you plant it, since you planted it just before a tick. However, there is one CRUCIAL fact about ticks. IF YOU LOG IN OR LOG IN FROM THE LOBBY BEFORE A TICK IS COMPLETED, YOU WILL RESET THE PLANT'S GROWTH FOR THAT TICK. This means people who do a lot of world hopping will find their crops growing slower. Be sure to plan for this, so if you are going rune mining, check your herbs after 2.5-3 hours, instead of 1.5

Is it a little hard to believe? Yes. Is it believable? Yes. Is it a reliable theory to base your farming on? Yes.

So for herbs, they grow a visible stage every ~20 mins, except for the first stage which is a few minutes. If you want them to grow the minimum time, you must either a) Remain logged in the entire time or b) Log out immediately after the run, and don't log in until 75-90 minutes after.

I've tested this many times, there's no reason to believe it isn't true. Maybe it's not exactly right in terms of the specific numbers, but the bottom line is, don't repeatedly log in and out if you want your herbs to grow quick.

EDIT: Worth mentioning, however, is the rare bug that causes herbs not to grow at all, despite you being logged in the entire time. I suspect it's a server issue, but it'snot the explanation here, because the above explanation accounts for an overwealming majority of these problems.
