Hawks
Since the 'Recommend a band' thread has disappeared, I guess I'll make a new thread.. Sort of. For general discussion of jazz, I guess, but I am really looking for some good jazz, preferably with a nice bassline and lots of saxophone. Hopefully available on last.fm. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube

Last.fm ? :| Depends on what type of jazz you like, TBH. Some of my favorites - [NB: These are all mostly blues, and noir jazz]. * Grant Green* Kenny Burrell []* Chet Baker []* Gerry Mulligan You might also like some Sinatra and perhaps Johnny Hartman. But that's not for everyone ...
rangeor
You can never go wrong with some Cab Calloway or Then there's always Sing Sing Sing :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62ZSQUyU00s I'm trying to learn jazz piano and guitar, it's such a ridiculous genre. Harakiri
http://www.pandora.com/#/ ^^^Use that then go down to the genre section. Click jazz. I listen to the smooth jazz essentials when I'm not in the mood for rock.

Hamtaro
My favorite jazz is the work of Maynard Ferguson. He was quite popular in the 70s. He can hit all of the highest notes on his trumpet and is able to breathe while playing. His most notable work was the Rocky Theme Song  If you like big band jazz, this is a great guy to listen to. He was so popular, that following his death at 78 in 2006, the jazz world mourned and held a very emotional tribute concert in his honor. My father attended the concert, and it was phenomenal (I saw it on DVD). i_love_burritos
John Zorn for something a little different. Yes. If you're looking for lots of saxophone, something really interesting, different and kinda crazy - John Zorn. His Bar Kokhbah and Masada stuff doesn't have much saxophone [any at all if I remember..], but I like that.

How2PK
Ah, alright. That's one of the few from the book of angels series I haven't heard. To TS: if you want to try something more 'easy' from Zorn, go for The Dreamers or Alhambra Love Songs...If you're into the more challenging work you could try some work from Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra.
