World
Any suggestions? Where i should smith them? I'm guessing Varrok anvil is my best bet (i'm P2P btw). And what should i make, i want to make money and not take long to go through the bars at the same time. My plan is iron plates for now. My main question is...am i smithing the right item? Synthox
Smithing is a huge money sinkhole unless you make your own bars, so forget about making money. The method you should use to train depends on whether you want to lose less money or get faster xp: Less loss: Iron arrowtips. Because they are one bar each, it's kinda slow, but making plates will NOT use all the bars in your inventory assuming you are only carrying a hammer. Faster xp: Iron platelegs/2h/plateskirt/chainbody/kiteshield. You only need 9 for an inventory, leaves a space for a hammer and uses every bar. Of course, if you really really want platebodies, then bring a hammer and 2 junk items or 3 sc hammers, replacing one with a junk item when it breaks. And yes, varrock is the best place. I admire your commitment. I wouldn't even think about smithing that many iron bars, 3k at the most :). I hope this helps. TT rewards: 2 ranger boots, Zamorak page 1 (2x), Guthix page 1, Ancient page 2 You must construct additional oak larders doors... I mean pylons Barrows: 10. Total value~22.3 mil. Ahrim Robeskirt is currently the item I have received the most.

World
Actually, making iron knives makes some cash. Very little cash, but some cash. Well I did the math and iron plates will make me the most money but it is also the slowest XP. Oh well...earning money isn't always easy. Wish me luck! Also, I never actually got around to smelting bars in the members world (became a member 2 months ago), where is the closest furnace to a bank? Jaffy1
I'm assuming the signature you have is the account you intend to do the smithing on?-In that case I wouldn't waste my time on iron bars, but I guess that's a matter of preferance. Anyway, the furnace in Edgeville would be most suited for your use. You will need to complete parts of the Varrock achievement diary to be able to access it. Wielding a Varrock armour will also increase the speed at which you smelt. Using a ring of forging will increase the amount of correctly smelted bars as well. As for smithing - No place like next to Varrock's west bank. Tip.It Website Crew Leader[hide=Quotes]I love it how Jafje comes outa nowhere and answers my questionsHehe now we know what real life does...drugs, drugs, more drugs. Ardzik
Edgeville furnice - it request varrock diary - you need easy one to be able for use it. Its like 2 "clicks" from bank.
schmuall
Edgeville furnice - it request varrock diary - you need easy one to be able for use it. Its like 2 "clicks" from bank. OP has already said that he already has the bars, why would he need a furnice? OT: sell the bars and buy yourself some gold ore. Then get the goldsmithing gauntlets (family crest quest?) and start smelt/superheating the ore into bars. Much much faster, and not too expensive when you consider you're getting much needed mage xp at the same time. Can't remember your summoning level but consider having a Magpie out if you can while smelting. It'll help you recoup some cash though be aware that you can't go to the GE while it's out. pgmr185
Personally, I do all of my smelting at the furnace in Neitiznot, and all of my smithing in Yanille. I kind of like that you have a little more peace and quiet. In Varrock you get constantly bombarded with "Smithing lvl?" and "What you making?" about 300 times an hour. I also think that Neitiznot is a little bit closer to a bank than Edgeville. The disadvantage is that Neitiznot is a little remote, so you're cut off from the GE, herb runs, effigy assists, and everything else for the whole time that you're up there. Sheep Tails
For a furnace, I always use the Port Phasmatys one. You need to wear a ghostpeak amulet to bank quickly, but it's more or less just as clsoe as the Edgeville one and since I don't like crowded places, it's better as well. For smithing, Varrock i definetely the best. Follower of GuthixThe quill is a miracle, for it drinks darkness and sheds light. Oh right, by the way, I'm a girl. No more calling me a guy you lot~
jjjon123
If you smith them, make sure you get the scroll of efficiency for 20k dungeoneering tokens, out of the 24k iron bars you will get 2k back (if u make legs) or 1.2k back (if you make pl8s). Not that much but worth it imo. On the other hand, you SHOULD NOT be smithing iron bars, they are a big waste of time and money. Here is why: Smithing Iron bars (making platebodys) cost 13gp/xp (assuming you high alch the pl8 bodys, which is the most resonable way to get rid of them) or 11.7 gp/xp if you sell them on ge (100 every 4 hours on min or if you manage to sell them to one person all in one transaction) Additionally you can only smith 510 platebodys /hour (source: http://forums.zybez.net/topic/1090666-skill-training-sticky/ Need confirmation on rate) (since you have no summoning level i will assume you have no access to a BoB) Just for kicks I will increase the rate to 600/ hr which will give you 75k xp/hr Smithing Iron Platebodys: 75k xp/hr @ 11-13 gp/xp That is very pathetic xp, there are other methods which give MORE xp/hr for LESS cost, Superheating gold ores can get upwards of 130k xp/ hr while costing only around 7gp /xp Not including the 125k magic xp on top of that. So now we have: Smithing Iron Platebodys: 75k xp/hr @ 11-13 gp/xpSuperheating gold ore: 130k xp/hr @ 7 gp/xp Well, what if you want to use sc hammers? Woundnt that make the xp/hr increase? Why waste them on iron? Other bars give you a more resonable cost to xp/hour ratios which should suit you more depending on how much you value your time. And more chance of profit when you make diffent types of bolts arrowtips ect. Sell the iron bars and buy gold or (wait till the xp weekend ends) and buy mithril/addy and smith with them. EDIT: If your saving the iron bars FOR the xp weekend, just forget them and get addy, you want to get the MOST out of the bonus xp since the multiplyers go down pretty fast after a few hours. 1,000 F2P Total Level Reached 10/8/10 ! [hide=Guides]Magic & Summoning Profit Spreadsheets! *UPDATES EVERY HOUR* (includes: High alch, Superheat, and Enchanting)4 BETTER alternatives to flesh crawlers[/hide] WOT WOT! ☉.☉☂
Surprise
Currently selling your 24k iron bars (at 366 p/ore) would net you 8,784,000 gp. If you were to go and right now convert that into gold ore you could buy 35,707 gold ore (at 246 p/ore.) This, if using the gauntlets, would get you 2,006,751 xp. Compared to the measly 600k smithing xp from the iron platebody I think I know what I would pick...
mughinn
well, if u intend to do plates(i think standard made a point on why you shouldnt), it would be worth it to buy the efficiency scroll in dungeoneering

I'm working on a 10k steel bars project right now but I plan to sell the bars as soon as I smelt them to go along with the gold ore method proposed by many of you, too bad i didn't know about it earlier i would have probably been over level 90 smithing by now lol.
