Science fiction texts often mention the concept of dimension, when really referring to parallel universes, alternate universes, or other planes of existence. This usage is derived from the idea that to travel to parallel/alternate universes/planes of existence one must travel in a direction/dimension besides the standard ones. In effect, the other universes/planes are just a small distance away from our own, but the distance is in a fourth (or higher) spatial (or non-spatial) dimension, not the standard ones.

The most striking feature of HyperSpace is the different properties electromagnetic radiation has within it; HyperSpace's different physical constants cause the speed of light to be much greater than the speed of light in TrueSpace. Observers in HyperSpace thus perceive electromagnetic radiation as "red-shifted", as the increased speed of propagation of light waves causes their wavelengths to become longer. Beyond this oddity, the physical laws in HyperSpace are similar enough to those in TrueSpace to allow vessels and their passengers safe passage. However, some humans entering HyperSpace have encountered intense feelings of disorientation and discomfort, effects of HyperSpace's unique attributes.

 

While most of HyperSpace is cast in a blood red light, there are some regions that do not appear red. The majority of these regions are strong TrueSpace gravity wells, which under certain conditions create transdimensional vortices into HyperSpace. These vortices are regions of overlap with TrueSpace, creating natural exit points from HyperSpace to TrueSpace. There is also a constant display of bright explosions and bursts of light in HyperSpace. Though the nature of these energetic (but harmless) events is unknown, they are theorized to be manifestations of objects moving quickly through HyperSpace into adjacent dimensions.

The 2090 Update:

2076- The ISS Unity Leaves.

 

2077- Norway and Turkey rebel against the Terran Federation. Britain and Switzerland assist the rebels. Britian begins construction of the New London Space Station, located in the Asteroid Belt.

 

2078- China demolishes the Captured Russian Base on Luna. Russia declares war on China...Again. China's Luna base is taken by Russia. Russia then declares war on the Terran Federation and launches a strong attack against the Terran Mars Base.

 

2079- With the Terran Federation nearly overwhelemed, South America declares war on the Terran Federation, taking South Africa. Britian takes this opportunity to conduct peace negotiations with the Terran Federation, taking North Africa off of them.

 

2080- Switzerland reaches Kiel and Norwegians begin crossing onto the mainland. Russia, overstreched itself, proposes two peace treaties, with China and the Terran Federation. The Terran Federation swings down on Turkey, burning down Istanbul. A new peace treaty is proposed and Turkey agrees.

 

2081- America establishes Station Alpha in orbit of Venus. The Terran Federation launches attacks against Switzerland and make the first successful invasion in the last 250 years. Switzerland fire a stealthed array of Particle Cannons which decimated the Terran Army. The Particle Cannons were subsequently shot down.

 

2082- South America attacks Chinese Africa. Switzerland deploys 'Mechos' to attack Terrans in the European Lowlands. Mass protests are launched and the UN declares war on Switzerland. Britian moves most of its army into Norwegian Territory ready to seize the advanced Mechos for themselves.

 

2083- The UN agrees to a peace treaty with Switzerland. The Terran Federation declares war on Britian and takes most of its old African Territory back. Britain accepts the new peace.

 

2084- America begins orbital Bombing of Switzerland over allegations of the hacking of American systems. Switzerland crashes America's Space Station into Florida, which is largely seen as admitting to the hacking offence. South America and Russia declares war on Switzerland.

 

2085- The Terran Federation sign a ceasefire with Switzerland and Norway and ally against American Landings in France, British and South American attacks in Africa and Russian attacks in the Baltic.

 

2086- Britian colonises three new asteroids. The Terran Federation and Switzerland repel the invasion of France. Britian regains some territory in Africa, agreeing to a revised peace settlement. China declares war on Russia.

 

2087- A strange grey bubble spreads through the system. The Royal Navy send twenty ships to investigate it and contact is lost. Japan takes this moment to deploy a new strain of Super-Anthrax. South America attacks North America. The Bubble then passes through Earth in four seconds, blocking out Sol and the rest of the universe before expanding onward, returning Sol just a few moments later. Super Anthrax decimates Russia, China and the Australian Commonwealth, as well as the new Japanese Empire. The UN announces a temporary ban on war.

 

2088- Super Anthrax spreads across the Globe, killing three billion. Japan is deemed too dangerous to carry on existing by Turkey which deploys Neutron Bombs, stripping Japan of its population without long term radioactivity. The UN allows this since Japan isn't a country any more. Australian settlers land and begin rebuilding Japan. Britian announces that it is abandoning Earth and is fusing hundreds of asteroids together to form the Eden Halo. The United Nations builds the Argus Array, a sub-space telescope, at the edge of the system to monitor surrounding space. Switzerland objects as the orbit time of such an array would be millenial. The United Nations do it anyway.

 

2089- Argentina establishes Missile Base two on Luna. The Norwegian Confederation launches a terraforming ship to Triton, stacked with dead bodies which will decompose, raising the temperature of the planet as carbon dioxide builds up in the atmosphere. Switzerland argues strongly that this wouldn't work as the gravity is too low and a temperature increase would decrease pressure, but Norway carries on.

 

2090- Switzerland questions the sanity of the United Nations. The United Nations ignores Switzerland, so Switzerland leaves the United Nations. The United Nations responds by embargeoing Switzerland. Switzerland announces that it will be leaving the surface of Earth, which the United Nations says is impossible. Switzerland ignores this and lifts over three hundred Arcologies into space and then hacks the American Strategic Defence Initiative and uses it to intercept the UN's missile attack on it. The Fleet then sets course for Planitia and the Swiss Fleet.

You would be a totally new character, however, I suspect people would let you take your old positions back...However, Jen, being mean spirited and money-grubbing would want to take the ISS Kirby with her...unless you wanted to kill Jen off in some imaginative and roleplay acceptable way. (Ie not 'I open an Airlock and shout 'WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE')

Svalbard has bedrock (actually, Svalbard is more rock than glacier), as has the Antarctic, the Arctic however.

 

As for me, I guess the show included my rather rude declination of the Japanese mission, and as a ruler I never turned down any proposal, no matter how ridiculus. And when it comes to my rather insane desicions, well, I was rather insane as a ruler too. So I guess Mather would be quite fond of Chi.
