I've killed over 130 blue dragons but I haven't gotten a clue scroll so far. According to runescape.wikia.com, it is a rare item. I'd just like to know what the chance is and if I'm unlucky or not.

The chance of getting a clue scroll from blue dragons is indeed quite low. I can't give you any numbers, but I can tell you that I have just got a very few clues from dragons during my dragon slayer tasks. Still, it is all about luck. I remember getting 2 hard clues after each other when killing black dragons not too long ago.

I wouldn't say you're unlucky. If you want to have a higher chance of a clue drop, you should try hellhounds. Here's a link to Tip.Its guide on those: Hellhound

Both, in a way. Although I have a lot of money, I'm still making money off the dragons. But I wouldn't say no to a really high chance for a level 3 clue scroll.

 

Do Hellhounds have a higher chance of dropping level 3 clues?

From my observations of my hellhounds tasks, I usually see about 3 Clue Scrolls drop per task (I don't do them), so I'd say hellhounds would be close to 1/50, but you get no other loot I guess.

Hellhounds is a very good choice if you just want the clue.. they only drop charms (mainly gold) and level 3 clues. They get annoying as I used to stop and do a clue each time I got one, I had to change that after 4 clue drops within 100 kills I was very lucky here btw, there drop rate is not 1/25 lol

I'm off to Hellhounds. I do hope I'll get a clue scroll.

Yeh just keep there till you get one, if you have a bunyip/unicorn/guthan's use them to camp there. Use super sets / extreme sets if you have them and pray if you feel like it you will make a profit from them in the long run using guthan's. Be aware though im not sure if guthan's is stable at the moment you may end up loosing money if you don't have it already.

Yeh stick with range for now then. Void and avas? Why not use rune cbow with broad bolts and unholy book?

You have to keep at it. When you are hunting for a drop, remember that if you only kill a small number, you aren't being very dedicated or accurate in your assumptions.

180,000 / 2500 = 72gp per shot. Broads are like 150+ gp per, IIR (at school, can't check), so 2x as expensive, or so, but that's assuming 100% loss of bolts. Realistically it's like 20% lost, once again, at school.

 

However, Broads are stronger, and faster, meaning a lot more DPS.

 

Use broads, even pure junk clues would make up for the price difference in 'ammo'.

As the bow degrades it loses its bonuses.

 

The trick is to take every shot that would cause it to degrade on a second bow, causing that bow to degrade instead. Then you can keep using your fully charged bow.

 

It's a pain to count shots though, so most people don't do it.

You shoot a bit under 250 shots with your 10/10 bow and then switch for bow with less charges for a few shots to let it degrade instead. Then you switch back to 10/10 to continue with full power. Disadvantage of this is that you have to somehow measure your shots either using timer after expirementing how long it takes for you to shoot like 240 shots or simply by counting. It's easy to mess up in the long run though and then you'll get annoyed for using 9/10 bow instead of 10/10.

Broad are not infinitely better than a crystal bow 10. In fact, crystal bow is as good or better. Crystal bow is pretty underrated, it's still quite good, especially since you don't have to pick up arrows (which I hate).

 

Simply don't pick up the broads, then. It's still cheap ammo, the cost isn't a big deal obviously. But the DPS of a Rune x bow with Broad bolts is far superior to that of a 10/10 Crystal bow.
