I'm not entirely sure. Back before we had membership cards in Canada I asked if I could have my RL friend buy me a card in the USA where he went to school and give it to me when he returned, but a JMod said that it wasn't allowed. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the PIN's country of origin but I don't quite remember. Honestly I don't see the PINs being that much cheaper on RWT site to be worth the risk, even if it's a small risk.

Naw. I mean it is cheaper than most legal options....only 8 bucks ea for me....

asssosiating with RWT sites is still against the rules, especially since its not 100% garenteed they'll give you the pin for membership. (Ignore my grammar, spell checker wont turn on)

Buying froma rwt is very much agaisnt the rules and also agaisnt the law.

The items are not meant to be for resale aside from authorised merchants.

Plus rwts run on credit card scams etc and thus odds of them being real member pins r pretty slim

Plus jagex culd easily trace any pins bought by the site owners for resale and thus ban the ppl hu bought them.

Odds are they r fake, the pins have a set price. Therefore the companies cannot of gotten them cheaper than that price and wuld not sell them for a lose.

Completely false. Give me a "law" which prohibits this?

There is no dutch law against trading virtual goods for real goods - it is actually implicitelly allowed under the counter of selling services.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I would say whatever. It's risky though. I wouldn't call it real world trading since it doesn't concern any RS gold or items. But it's definitely against the rules as only immediate family members can buy you membership.

Most of the people who get cheap pins usually goto random stores or the library and buy a pin through their phones afaik. So yes, it's also quite illegal in real life.

Not gonna lie, i've done it. Got my pin for $5 (might not seem cheap, but the extra $2.50 was for the instant service, not the pin itself) instantly via email using an automatic service. Cheaper and more efficient than Jagex.

Regardless of what people say, not all RWTers are scammers. Just don't be stupid, know what you are doing before you delve into this sort of thing.

Not suggesting people do it, just giving my opinion/experience.

Rather than hack my psot apart why not refer to the clear lsit I gave that covered this?

Not meant to for resale except by authorised merchants = illegal

Company running on credit card fraud and digital fraud = illegal

If you can't afford 8 bux maybe you should go mow a lawn or shovel a driveway or something

Somebody is selling a banana for 3$ and someone else for 8$. What would you do?

I'd go for the one that doesn't rely on trusting the person who says it's a real pin, and the one that isn't in a grey area of the rules.

Mmhmm...I'd go for the one at the supermarket rather than the one in the back alley that you can only eat with a blindfold on....

Why would anyone be selling $8 memberships for $3 anyway, unless they're using a stolen credit card? In which case you're benefiting off some else's terrible, terrible misfortune

Where did anyone ever say rwt always came from credit card fraud?

As for "not meant for resale": well that is a difficult option.. As I stated in some cases people were actually able to "sell" virtual goods despite the company trying to prevent it.. (standard clause like: "all items are property of ... and you can't claim ownership").. While you can't claim ownership over single items thanks to that clause in several cases the conclusion was that the specific SETTINGS/COLLECTIONS of the items was a consumers property. So an account as a "whole" would be part of you!

This is a very grey area though, and it chances from country to country (and often even between prosecutor & prosecutor).

I remember though that with the last of these cases promises were made to clear up the confusion.. (And basically the goverment said: we're going to look how we can make sure the consumers own the digital goods - though that was 4 years ago and I haven't heard anything since).

Just use paypal. There is a lot more "legitimate" money 4 services sites on the internet (do this, get points, redeem for $$$) than there is "legitimate" pin buying sites.

I even do it (though ive only gotten $5 so far :P ). If you want you can pm me and I can refer you to a decent legit cash4services type of site.

Whichever way you look at it, it's always a lose lose for everyone 'cept the RWT company.

You either get a fake or non-existant membership, and possibly found out by Jagex, who in turn lose profit(not that many people would be against that). if that happens, you risk account bannings, and possible legal issues.

overall, it's a no-no.

Here, do you want this nice unopened can of soda you saw me walking out of the store with, or the one the tramp is offering you, which is half drunk, might not even be soda, and probably spiked?

I'd buy the cheaper one, obviously.

But three bucks is still a lot for a banana...

Oh, and about buying membership from some weird website, don't do it. It's obviously a scam. You may save a few bucks, but you may have your credit card stolen, or worse, your Runescape account banned.

Although I can't find anything specifically in the rules or on the RuneScape website about this, I am inclined to agree with Sy_Accursed. I can't imagine that Jagex would allow the reselling of their products for less than what they offer. And as he also stated, RWT sites are likely running on credit card fraud and digital fraud, which is certainly illegal. You do not want to associate yourself with these sites that violate the RuneScape rules (and the law) in many ways. It should not be worth the risk.

Locking for the above reasons - seems pretty illegal to me.
