Hey there. I am looking for some advice.

My combat level is 133. I have no ovls, no turmoils etc,. I do have access to extremes but that's not relevant at the moment.

I don't have money. I don't have claws, godswords, bandos armor, chaotic weps etc... I started playing only a few months ago again. I think I quit around 2007. Hence the missing awesome new stuff. Doesn't justify my bank being only ~55m tho. :rolleyes:

 

I have done some questing. I have access to TD, but never been there. As I don't have a unicorn, I think that's not a viable option.

 

So I wanted to do some boss hunting anyway, despite missing all the awesome stuff.

 

I did some DK'ing years ago, and decided to give it a shot.

In the old days, it was pretty standard to have a team of 3+. 1 or 2 mages, 2 or 3 people who killed supreme/prime.

 

I decided to solo, and only kill Rex and Supreme, ignoring the Prime.

 

This is my setup:

 

 

I also have a war tortoise. Filled with brews and super restores. 2:1

The problems I am having:

 

1) Lasting 50-60 minutes, I only get 30-40 kills.

2) I takes WAY too much time to kill Rex with mage, hitting low all the time and constantly splashing.

 

I need some help tweaking the setup... Gear, amount of pots, and so on.

 

The cost of pots+runes is pretty high. Would it be smarter to just mage Rex, ignoring Prime and Supreme? I would get a lot more kills with this setup, but I think it would be slower.

 

I am at loss, please help me.

What staff is that? I suggest you get a staff of light. Also use fire surge not wave. And finally, borrow a bandos chestplate. Not only does it have more prayer & ranged defence than a barrows plate (1 in each :P) but also 10 less magic attack penalty.

 

Don't use rune boots, use infinity or s[bleep]y. Err lol, the blue boots.

 

I think some boost pots may help you but I'm not sure, as of course the brews nuke your stats. But overloads offer a 21% boost to magic damage. Arcstream is 15%, that would also help.

I actually use guthix claws+charge, forgot to mention that.

 

But do you think killing Rex and Supreme is more profitable than killing only Rex?

use fire surge with a sol, consider working for an arcane stream necklace. Those will make rex faster

Use a verac helm for the increased defense, it might help you last a little longer.

 

Without soul split/turmoil, ovl and yak, you can't really expect to last long hybriding.

AAAH that explains. Charge only works with a god arena cape on.

Yes - you need the cape if you're set on using god spells.

 

However, you are really better off with fire surge and a staff of light. It hits just as high as god spells, and gives more experience. Not to mention you can keep the sw cape.

Without a yak, ovl and turm, I wouldn't be surprised if just maging rex would be more profitable. When I was lower level, I maged rex, and got around 2m/h. That's without banking the hides/bones, and just off of the special drops.

 

I used claws of guthix at the time with charge, but Fire Surge with a SOL will work much better.

How many hours did you mage the Rex, SirIzenhime? Did you feel you got the better part of the drops or the worse? Or was it average?

You'd be better off Maging rex and ranging Prime, that way you don't need to tank and you don't need any fancy prayer.

It really depending on how many Titans/unicorns I took.

When I did it, I did it with guthans, so in between rex kills I'd be healing off the spinolyps

Other then anti-poisons and familiars, I could camp there forever. I also didn't need to pray anything, because I'd just sneak past the other 2 without them seeing me (kind of hard to do this though)

 

I averaged a drop every 35 kills. If I had to give drop rates, I'd guess both rings at around 1-75, and hatchets at around 1-50

No idea how accurate that is though

it is said rings 1/75 and hatchets 1/100 btw. i do pretty good solo maging, prime takes too long to kill to be worth it for me. plus if u get a good drop from prime, if you go pick it up u get supreme on you and you can get him off unless you kill him

It worked almost always, rarely heard of someone dying. Is this method still used? Does it still work? :P

Hatchets are definitely more common then rings. I'd say 1/85 rings/weapons, 1/50 hatchets. Prime kill time does not matter just range him while you wait for the rex spawn. You telle grab the drops to avoid agroing supreme.

Unicorn just barely doesn't heal you enough solo maging. You need ~1 brew per hour. I'd do prime+rex as stated earlier. If you do supreme+rex, bring a cannon and set it up on top of primes spawn to kill him while you kill rex+supreme. Xlogging still works, but its pretty easy to get in without them agroing, so its not really viable.

Thats a myth, Rex has such low magic defense that you could cast crumble undead on him and still hit fairly accurately. #-o

You can't actually cast crumble undead on non-undead afaik. But yes slayer dart ignoring attack penalty is a myth & the spell is ridiculously weak.

I wonder where that rummor came from. I mean, I know slayer dart is accurate...but when you think about it, the only times people use it is when they're fighting things that have no magic defense to begin with :rolleyes:

Stick with fire surge, if you have an arcane stream + SOL, people will rarely even try to crash you. Even better if you have a dagannoth task or OVL.
