So currently I am 89 range. I am 127 combat have 90 defense and 80 summoning. My gear is full arma or void. I am looking for a decent efficient way to train my ranged level. Preferably a method that can be 'semi' afk'ed.

Please post and suggestions and please don't say chin :P i would prefer not to.

chinning monkey skeletons is afkable (other then drinking prayer pots), and very fast range xp.

They are aggressive forever? Or is it that when you attack one, you hurt the others, hence them becoming aggressive again? Because if you can semi-afk skeletons I might consider doing them myself...know any XP rates?

To the OP: I have been doing yaks, super easy to afk as there isn't really a danger. But if you can semi-afk chinning, I would recommend that.

Cannoning while ranging demons is alright. I'm getting ~90k range exp/h, 13k prayer exp/h (urns), and an effigy every approx. 2.5 hours. Plus, roughly 90 crims/h. Been using void and 2k cannonballs per 250 kills as well. So it costs a little, but I've been using the effigies on prayer so 25k prayer exp/h while getting 90k range exp/h seems rational. Thought someone else might find it something to try.

As for afkable, I've been watching How I Met Your Mother today and don't think I've missed a joke yet...

If you're getting 90k xp there, you might be doing something wrong . 2k cannonballs at ~25 xp each, would leave only 40k other xp with your primary weapon? You should use void ranged and either Karil's crossbow, a handcannon, or a rune crossbow w/ deflector. Be sure to pot up and use eagle eye.

I don't think it's very afk though, go with chinning monkey skeletons.

Giant spiders, elite void deflector w ACP, sw cape, the rest the best range boosting gear you can. sip a dose of range pot every 5 min and sip prayer as necessary. Very afkish, not the best exp.

As said chinning is the better option.

When you kill a monkey skeleton a new one spawns directly from the bones that are dropped, so you'll always have a group of them around you at all times.

There is no secret shortcut of a profitable, good exp, semi afk method. You either go fast and expensive or slow and cheap. Fast and expensive is better because in the time saved you can more then make your money back. Why do you dislike chinning so much? It really would be the most efficient way to train. Otherwise knife yaks or something, but that's really a waste of time.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

If you want semi-afk training you have to use a process of elimination to see what works for you.

[hide] Various rationale to be considered in choosing what to kill

Monsters need to be aggressive, if you have to initiate combat every monster, that's too many inputs, you aren't going to achieve much of your other activity (be it browsing web, watching film, whatever)

Next in the case of ranging, you aren't going to want to use a safespot -since that nullifies a monsters aggressiveness.

Lastly you don't want them to have 100% drops that you want, be it bones or ashes, since you'll have to pick them up (Unless using urn/bonecrusher ofc)

Using a cannon takes too much input and would result in too high a kill-rate for any afk-time to be of any use.

[/hide]

Slayer is not a good option - you are better off doing it properly when you have the time/willpower to do so, especially since you would typically use a cannon which would train your range xp at a 1:1 ratio of slayer xp.

I would personally do Black Demons - however just stand in the middle of the room (Taverly or CT if you get a combat familiar) and protect melee & eagle eye/(the 10% one). The cost of prayer pots is insignificant - bring a few urns and gain passive prayer xp.

This is also a great source of Crimson charms & moderate rate of effigies. You will not make much money - but then again that's something you have to compromise on if you want semi-afk xp, as the alternative is to log off and devote your attention to whatever else you are doing on the computer.

If you wanted something more "afk" anything that's aggressive and you can protect melee from - all it means is you'll be checking loot piles less often.

LRC is an ok option - you will gain more range xp, but you will gain less effigies & charms & prayer experience, due to them being spread-out, you'll also find yourself out of combat a lot just standing there.

As for what weapon to use - Karils Xbow is best, but would cost too much (You may aswell chin/cannon) so I'd guess broad bolts and R-cbow.

Whether you prefer a SW cape or an Accumulator - basically depends on how much ground clutter you want - personally I'd go the accumulator, not to save bolts, just so there is less stuff to right click on, especially if i'm multi-tasking.
