i'm not sure, but i don't think strength bonus is everthing, sure, it helps. but i think defence bonus is better.

No. Defense bonuses are trivial for most things.

Well it increases max damage output and therefore you are hitting more dps. Defence doesnt help at all unless you are fighting bosses were you are constantly taking damage.

My lame drops:
6 Effigys
1 D Med - 1 D Dagger
1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody

what? i'm not talking about defense at all..

He means the post above his, not your OP.

The formula that determines your max hit is as follows:

5 + (potted strength level * prayer bonus + 8) * (equipment strength + 64) / 64 * void bonus

With fsh and salve amulet being part of the strength level. I'm not sure how they are factored in but I assume it's just another multiplier.

The same formula applies for accuracy rolls, one attack and one defence roll. Of course the void/salve/fsh bonus don't every apply to defence.

If your attack roll is higher than your opponent's defence roll, you hit. I'm not sure what happens when the rolls are equal.

Hmm, thanks. i've always been told that strength bonus is only for slayer. bbecause defence bonus saves you money on food. thanks for educating me. i guess whats why people say get torso/bandos for strength bonus.

It increases your max hit and also your average hit. In turn this increases your kills per hour or experience per hour. If you are going to ever max melee stats then even something like a berzerker ring will save you many hours. This is why so many setups emphasize strength bonus.

Also, defense isn't as important as food, familiars and prayers can be used to compensate.

Edit: I keep getting ninja'd

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

I think what the OP is asking is, if you have lvl 1 str, what str bonus would you need to hit the same as having lvl 50 str with 0 str bonus..

^I'll just answer that for the heck of it.

Max hit with 50 strength and no strength bonus is your strength level +13, or +16 with agressive. So that's a max of 53 or 56.

Max hit with 1 strength is 5 + (1 + 8) * (strength bonus + 64) / 64 or 5 + (1 + 8 + 3) * (strength bonus + 64) on agressive. Basically, every 64 strength bonus adds 9 or 12 to your max, with your base max being 14. You need 278 strength bonus to get a max hit of 53, matching the max hit on accurate. To match the max hit on agressive you need a strength bonus of 192.

It should be noted that the only way to get over 200 strength bonus at level 1 strength is with a chaotic maul, Bandos, strength amulet, berserker (i), dragon boots, fire cape etc.. I'm not sure but you probably can't get barrows gloves, so you might even need to use Vesta's.

no i was just wondering (in essence):

how many equipment str bonus it takes to raise max hit by 1 (or any constant)

compared to...

how many strength level it takes to raise max hit by 1 (or any constant)

just to compare the cost efficiencies of bandos / ext str / piety / turm and other stuff for personal use

but yeah, i should of just looked at the formula for max hit and would have realized it's not linear
