Just went to check out the rants section, and the issue of bots seemed to stick out a bit

 

 

A sticky for bot related rants might be worthwhile... until they die down anyway!

I guess some of those topics can just be merged into a mega topic maybe. I mean, most of them have genuinely good points and create a decent discussion. Putting it in a sticky will just jumble it up in a sense.

 

It's not like that board is super active anyway. Just saying.

People recently complained that we have too many stickies in Rants, so I'd rather not add another one :) Also, the last post on the first page dates back like five days so we don't need to steal anymore activity away from the main forum.

People complained because those stickies generalize situations too much.

 

Botting needs a small sub-forum in rants or gen discussion. That way people can post about different botting situations/issues, it all won't be clumped together in one thread, and it's not a distraction to users such as myself who get annoyed when there are 3 botting topics made in a row.

 

Lastly, I wouldn't call it stealing activity from the main forum, it's simply redirecting it. I'd rather have less activity in rants that is focused more on other types of rants instead of the current activity that is 80% botting threads/discussions.

I'm going to have to 2nd the idea to have a Sub-Forum within Rants and/or General Discussion about this. Just for starters, a mere sticky would develop too much cross-traffic. Further, it would totally miss both its' initial purpose as well as its' far-reaching purpose, and would die ultimately due to being useless to everyone. Also, it would be nice to be able to converse with others, work out interesting and diverse strategies, and ultimately squish a ton of the bots that are messing up the game for everyone. Heck, it would even be interesting to have some meta-discussion that tries to figure out just how many bot families are currently still alive and/or active out there, as well as the scope of how vulnerable they are to some methods. ;)

It's been about a week since the last post on this. I still think that a sub-forum is a great idea, seeing that two more botting threads were made today.

 

Had to zoom out to get this pic, but the point is still clear and is an updated picture of the original one posted on this thread.

 

I'm not quite sure what a subforum would achieve other than hiding most of the threads from people who don't want to look at them. It would leave the normal Rants forum pretty inactive. If you don't want to read threads about bots, you don't have to.

Good point. I simply think that with so many threads about them, it could be a decent idea to put them into one organized place.

Yeah there are a lot of threads but we try to only make organizational changes if the end product would result in two active forums. So if the rants forum without the bot threads was very active and the bot threads were just making things chaotic and overpowering the other active discussions, then it would be great to split up the forum. But if splitting up a forum results in two very slowly moving forums, then it's harder to justify doing it :P

Because my time seems better spent doing other things and as a result getting far more enjoyment out of life with much less stress.

I'm still not happy with having a sticky to be honest. It just completely splits the discussion. I mean there's a million things you can say about bots. It's such a broad topic. The reason WHY there's a lot of threads is because it's just one of those popular things to talk about. Just like a while back merchanting clans were the main topic of discussion or the GE, etc.

Agreed, but I don't know that it merits an entire forum.

why curtail discussion and inhibit it? Bot's pertain to runescape and in a game environment thats lacking game-breaking updates people will talk about what the "issues" in runescape - and bots ARE the issues. If Jagex comes here - they need to see players feel bots are out of control, they could miss a sticky.

Look at the dates = two+ days of threads visible from the main page. remove those bot threads and general will look dead - if people wanted to talk about other things, they might actually reply to them!

Unluckily, now you need to get Tripsis, Peter, and/or another Admin to go fix that Poll that's also a Global Announcement. Right now, things are way off of their true context, and that's totally screwed up what was in need of handling here. :ohnoes:
