Yes 4 str bonus is useful if you can't afford a bcp.

My friend says it is worth it, but I'm not sure.

The fighter torso is good but it takes a pretty huge time investment (when playing BA)

 

Many people will opt to money make for the X amount required to get the BCP instead - which has much higher defensive bonuses and can be liquidated if something crazy happens (super crash in herb/prayer/who knows what)

Fighter Torsos cannot be sold on the GE - so there's no way to even see even part of that return back (in the form of money at least)

 

However, BA is pretty interesting so those who like it may value the time spend getting the BCP better spend as opposed to grinding farming herbs, frost dragons or whatever is the best method one utilizes to make 18m.

the basic idea is a bit strange, but still simple.

 

the time it takes to get the Torso is more then the time saved by the 4 str bonus.

 

its like spending an hour to scam someone for 50k when you could work for money for an hour and get 500k.

This, and like Litterbug said, you can always sell a bcp back. The only reason I got a torso (two torsos, actually) was because I was already playing BA for fun/ranks and wanted full penance.

When me amd friends went for our torso's it took us maybe 5-6 hours for 4 people plus a random so IMO unless you can make 20 mil(?) in that amount of time it's worth it.

You can sell your BCP back once you are done with it.

This is also without taking into account the defensive bonuses the BCP gives. This would be a good argument if they both provided the same stats, but the only common stat is the +4 str bonus

Defense isn't every really needed though expect for a few high level activities that the op couldn't do effectively anyways.

There's a slight difference at Black demons which may or may not mean the difference between being able to tank them when using cannon or not.

At the very least, they do save some prayer points

I'm not advocating using a torso, but there is just no place where the defense is needed. Even at black demons you can easily pray with no cost.

Put it this way: a torso is about 2.5% more melee dps (less if you are already pretty much maxed in gear, with rapier/berserker (i) etc.). So for every hour you take to get it you'd have to spend around 40 hours melee training for a torso to be faster (torso is only used on task of course, off task you use void for powertraining, or Dharok's).

 

On the other hand you could get a bcp by cannoning + meleeing some kind of dragon. You get melee xp, charms, effigies, and ranged xp as well. So the matter isn't simply torso versus no torso (torso taking 100-200 hours of training melee through slayer to be worthwhile) but torso vs bcp. And if you take, say, 15 hours to make the money for bcp and 3 hours for a torso, the question now is if the moneymaker gives you over 12 hours worth of xp. Considering the fairly nice melee, ranged, summoning and effigy xp, I'd say it's better to get bcp even if you don't intend to sell it, ever.

I bring a bunch of random stuff to black demon slayer tasks (herbicide, infernal urns, holy wrench, spec weapon)

I also have two extreme atk/strs + cannon/cannonball, slayer ring and a house tele and a bunyip pouch.

The rest of my spots are used for prayer pots.

 

I find that I cannot pray piety + protect def for a whole task without having to bank.

I can either protect the whole time and pray flash piety or just take piety off towards the end.

I'm not extremely far away but with 0 prayer - I don't think I can tank more then 1/2 black demons before having to port out.

 

Maybe it's because I have a low prayer or maybe it's some other reason but I definitely cannot finish a task leaving protect melee/piety on the whole time.

Well there are multiple solutions to this problem, sorry if I'm going off topic here in advance.

 

First, you could learn how to peity flash and then you would save a moderate amount of prayer. I don't know if it would be enough to make it all the way through your tasks. Second you could take a terrorbird rather then a bunyip. You are praying anyways and not taking damage so those 12 prayer pots would help a lot more. A slayer ring is never really needed, with a calculator and some scrap paper you can track your kills using a pencil and scratch paper along with your slayer exp.

 

So that would lessen your prayer usage while giving you a number more spots for prayer potions. Really defense isn't actually needed anywhere in slayer.

If you're running out of prayer why not just use prossy? surely the boost from constant piety will be greater then the +4 str from a bcp.
