The 5v5 Tournament is coming to RuneScape soon. You will be able to fight alongside four of your friends for a chance to be VIPs at RuneFest 2011. Not only will we fly the victorious combatants over to London and put them in a swanky hotel – they will have the privilege of facing off against the Jagex Clan Wars Pro team live at RuneFest on the big stage!

But that’s not all; each member in every team that takes part will be given 100 Loyalty Points if they have signed up to our newly released Members Loyalty Programme. Those that battle their way to the last 32 teams and our tournament stages will earn themselves 250 points instead of 100 and both team’s players that reach the Grand Final will earn 500 points instead of 250. Definitely suitable recognition for the loyal warriors who have proven themselves in battle throughout the tournament!

Signups are open until 22nd July so there is plenty of time to grab a group of your friends and give it your best shot. Anyone has a chance to win the tournament - tactics, skill and careful planning are all key elements to any strategy and the 5v5 Tournament is no different. You could just be up for some epic battles or just want buckets of fun along the way – no matter how you want to play it, you should sign up and give it a go.

We’re always looking at player feedback and changes to the tournament so that you can maximise your gaming experience and we’ve made a few based on feedback already! Shortening the tournament, allowing a substitutes bench and more customisation of battles have already made it into the rules so don’t hesitate to let us know as you signup.

For more information about the tournament click here and to sign up to the tournament click here.

I dont know if it is just me, but they seem to think that 500 points is a lot. Kinda seems like a attention grabber for a meh reward.

Don't worry you need at least a 3b bank to compete.

This tournament is never going to be about tactics, it's about who has the most money.

It would have been better if there were some kind of equipment rule.

Proud owner of the following skillcapes: Defence, Hitpoints, Strength, Attack, Magic, Summoning, Ranged, Slayer, Prayer and Herblore.
I drift in and out, trying some update that interests me.

Are you calling me poor? :(

Nah divine+pernix+virtus (plus dung mage gear) is all you'll really need. Can't foresee melee being useful with 5 miasmic/barragers on the other team.

I don't know why, but this latest announcement for the competition just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's been pointed out numerous times that unless Jagex sets some sort of rules about what gear can be worn, this competition will end up being who has the most money. And now to top it off, they're offering loyalty points? Either people aren't signing up or this feels like another way to shove members down our throats. :???:

Anyone with maxed combats, a Divine, Torva, Pernix, Virtus, millions to blow on barrage runes, overloads and saradomin brews has a chance to win the tournament - money, levels, high-leveled team mates, more money, and a passable amount of hybriding and brew spamming skills are all key elements to any strategy and the 5v5 tournament is no different.

the runefest bit aside seems lame.
I mean really 500 points is a big deal?

1 month membership = 500 points, heck splash out and buy the next month too for another 3000

Ok. I see two points of complains.

1. Unless you're a 138 with chaoticS, overloads, and a few bil to spare, you don't stand a chance.

2. The amount of loyalty points you get is insignificant.

When you put those two things together, it seems a bit balanced - yeah, the average scaper has no chance of winning, but even the people who make it to the grand final only get 500 points. With the 100 points for signing up, that's also gonna tempt a lot of people - altho, only for the points lol.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

The rest of my sig. You know you wanna see it.

It should be done in the Wild. That way, you'd have people fighting in only stuff they'd be willing to lose. Otherwise, as people have said, it'll just be full Torva + Divine + overloads or some other ridiculous set-up.

I don't think that would change the outcome of the tourney very much.

It would go from who has the most money to who has the most money to lose. The winners will still be wearing pernix/virtus/divine.

When I first read the title of this thread, I was very irritated at the thought of giving out loyalty points for PvP victories. After seeing that it's only 500 points, I'm not bothered any more.

One simple rule would make everything better.

As many others have pointed out, it's biased more towards those with money. It doesn't bother me too much though. The amount of points you get is very small, so I probably won't even be signing up.
