It's Super Effective!

Recommended Posts

What's with all the hate on new jersey anyways. I see it a lot and it confuzzles me.

I don't really hate the state. But the roads and drivers there are pretty damn infuriating.

Example:

So at a 4-way intersection, usually you have maybe like 2 lanes or so, right? And the left lane will be for left turns/straight and the right lane will be more right turns/straight. It's pretty logical because this way if you know you're turning left soon you can just stay in the left lane until you find the road you're looking for.

Well in NJ they had a brilliant idea. We will make roads like that ONE lane, then at the intersection we will have them split into THREE lanes, so left turns, right turns, and no turns. Then, after the intersection, we will give them about 10 feet to merge back into ONE lane.

Which is counterintuitive but not necessarily the dumbest thing ever if you make the side lanes left turn/right turn only. The problem is that drivers there will go into the left/right lane, speed up to 1343 mph when the light turns green, and try to pass you in the 10 feet given at the merge.

Another Example:

Imagine a series of intersections. You're driving along the main road, and there are 3 roads ahead of you that intersect. Usually, you would have a big sign saying what the road is before you hit that road. This way you can see it in advance and tell yourself "well I guess this road takes me to the interstate so I can get out of this damn place". And sometimes, they put the signs there.

But other times they decide to put the sign on the COMPLETE OPPOSITE corner. As in, on the other side of the road and on the other side of the street, with an arrow pointing across the street. And honestly that wouldn't even be too bad if they were consistent. But nope, each intersection is its own adventure.

The last thing I found the other day, there was an intersection. 3 lanes, as per usual. Except they decided to make direction signs in the lane this time (they have this sometimes as well, but people ignore them so often it doesn't do anything). The left lane has an arrow pointing straight and left, so I say, "ok I can turn left or go straight in that lane". The right lane has an arrow pointing right and one pointing straight, so I say "ok I can turn right or go straight in that lane."

The middle lane has 3 arrows, pointing in each direction. Basically, it told me I could do whatever the [bleep] I wanted.

From what I remember Galway and Somerset/probably all of europe outside of big cities had awful roads. Not just nonsensically planned but super unsafe speeds on small roads, twists and bends, and tunnel roads - there's a name for those but I've forgotten it.

The only time I've driven in NYC/NJ, I was getting slurred directions from my very inebriated mother and accidentally ended up in NJ. So really the only time I was in the state was by accident.

This happened again. She is really frustrating to deal with sometimes. Especially when she's alone or going out without a friend.

Mark, her boyfrand, was busy this weekend and she was out most of the day, until she calls me to come get her from a bar. She didnt seem that bad on the phone but was just sloppily stumbling into my car when I got there. I got her settled in on the couch, she kept trying to cuddle me and was telling me how wonderful I am and such.

Embarrassing to deal with in public; kind of funny back home in private.

Isn't this just how dealing with parents is in general? (You know, assuming your parents aren't complete [wagon].)

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

Not really. I have a cool mom. She rarely embarrasses me.

My stepfather was awkward though.

My mom is quite the alcoholic. She makes herself look awful when she gets drunk. I can't stand it.

Once she was at her boyfriends house and she got so drunk she pissed her pants. Then when her boyfriend tried to get her to go lie down she got all defensive and stubborn, saying she wasn't drunk and then she refused to go lie down and started doing the dishes instead. This was in front of the guys family and his kids. I felt bad for him having to put up with it.

I'm quite glad I don't have to deal with her anymore :P

Idk, many decades of drinking and my mother isn't a mean nasty drunkard, she's a fun and occasionally depressed drinker. I don't consider going out on weekends to be signs of alcoholism. Plus she always is forgetting drinks and it leads to a lot of free wine . Smoking (cigarettes but mostly weed) made her an anxious abrasive jackass, I'm glad she sorted her life out.

My parents are responsible doctors :-k

My mom is a very responsible and wonderful teacher :).

I somewhat envy both of you, I don't think either of my parents could be considered responsible.

Drinking only on weekends would be a massive step up for my mom. She even keeps a bottle of vodka and a cup in her bathroom. You can never be too prepared I guess <_<

And well, I mean it's possible that my dad is a very responsible person. But seeing as he's got his own missing persons case, it's a little bit harder to determine that. Sometimes I like to think he was a secret agent and got called away on some important mission to save the world or something, in which case I'd say that's pretty responsible :P

My parents maybe drink a glass of wine at holidays, or every once in a while for dinner, but not very often. I have never seen them get obviously tipsy, and only a couple times where they couldn't drive.

I have responsible, boring parents I guess.

Yeah the hiding alcohol (and formerly, weed, when she didn't want me to know about it) in all sorts of funny places is silly. Sometimes I'm not sure if she meant to hide it or just left it there once it was empty and forgot about it.

[hide]My mom comes home from work and says she needs a glass of wine to unwind and ends up drinking a lot more than 1 glass [/hide]

Yeah mine is the same way with wine and menthol smooths <.<. Are we related somehow?

Sorry to hear about your father Nekyia. I lost mine in a car accident a while ago. Its rough.

There is a nonzero chance that he is actually a superhero and had his cover blown though :)

A couple months ago my mom even went as far as hiding her vodka bottles in my younger sisters room so her husband wouldn't get mad at her about them. And even when he found them she just said they were my sisters and convinced my sister not to tell him the truth.

But I've heard that lately she switched to boxed wine as her preferred drink because it's apparently easier to get rid of cardboard boxes than vodka bottles :P

Yea, I recently had to give the police my DNA so they could use that to try and match with unidentified bodies. I'm having a hard time deciding whether I want to find out anything that way or not. If I do finally get an answer that way, it won't be a good answer. So sometimes I think it'd be better to just not find out because then I can hope there was something positive about the disappearance.

Exactly the same. WHO R U?!

And Nekyia excuse me for asking but your parents disappeared...?

Yeah hard to drink boxed wine from the box though, and if you try you look like an alcoholic. I stick to a bottle of some cheap fruity trashy wine :).

I'm sorry to hear about that. That's awful to not have closure. After the autopsy and funeral we got back some personal items he had with him. Its rough just knowing some random night of no significance was the last time you spoke to them. Its hard to imagine losing him without a trace at all. I'm really sorry. Harpie hug

Edit: nothing wrong with boring parents. I'm not a fan of the parents-as-friends-not-parents thing my mom has tried to do. I don't think I would raise a child like I was raised. And I'm already off to a great start, I'm 19 and have not had any children yet. I should get a family trophy or something.

Thanks. Sorry to hear about your dad too :(

And yea, it's been rough at times. Especially since I was the last one to see and talk to him :/

Well the last one who will admit to it at least. There's some weird circumstances involving the people he was living with and I find it hard to believe that they don't know anything.

And congrats on the no kids :P

Also be positive about it, lack of a father figure would make your life 45469803985680% easier if you ever go into porn.

[hide]sorry[/hide]

Yup, of all possible silver linings, being able to go into porn easier is my favorite
