July 22, 201313 yr I have a buddy who's now a anesthesiologist. (yes, I'm only 17 but fight me pls) He joined the military because he didn't really know what to do with himself. After being deployed to the middle east etc, etc, the army paid for his education. He told me that it isn't all rainbows and sunshine. During his deployments and training, he told me that life sucked; that he would be laying down in a trench at night craddling his weapon(s), freezing his ass off whilst having bugs eat him alive. But you know what? He knew that that [bleep] was supposed to happen to him. You have to take the ups with the downs. One night he'd be in a trench being eaten alive, another night he'd be at home with his friends having fun. You know what? Now the dude makes enough money to have a lakehouse, a luxurious RV for travelling and camping, a boat (not sure exactly how big tbh, but boats are expensive lol), loads of expensive paintball gear, and tons of cool stuff the military taught him about/let him use. Now look at him. He's a brilliant guy. He decided that he wanted more from his life, so he did it. He chills with some of his best buddies at work (all ex-military, and doctors/nurses) and enjoys his life. Not saying you should join the military but do you see my point here?

In any case I'm sure hardly 100% goes to him, I don't know how much Tor books robs authors (or if its even his publisher still) but its definitely a significant chunk. IMO whatever he, or anyone, donates with their own earnings should just be their thing. You arent giving the LDS church moolah (see what I did there?), you're giving Bsanders money. Whether he donates it to the church or spends it on crack is something I'm pretty ambivalent about. Part of why I felt pretty mellow about the Chikfila thing.
