Im not sure they ever even existed They did but not for long, kinda like old pineapple if that would ring a bell. Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant: "If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor. Yeah, weren't people starting to cotton onto the fact there was old pineapples you could no longer get, the Jagex changed them without warning to stop new rares appearing? viashino_bey
old diamonds were items that were introduced BEFORE the introduction of crafting to runescape. They were handed out (supposedly) to the top players of the game, as a little hint of what was to come (supposedly bluerose13x got one)

CWolf2
As has been said, it was changed. However, what wasn't said, is that they were simply a test on the active servers. Way back when, there was a time when mining ores didn't give you a gem randomly. However, they needed to test the new "gem while mining" concept on a larger scale than just a private server, so they introduced diamonds into the game, and let people mine them. Once they fixed the bugs, they added the other gems, and changed the old diamonds.
