Cape for Slaying

Featured Replies

I finished Nomad's Requiem over the weekend, and have a shiny new SW cape in my bank as a result. However, I now don't know which cape to use while doing slayer (which is pretty much the only combat I do).

I am stuck between Ardy Cape 3 and the SW cape; I've had different people say different things to me and I just wanted a clarification :)

Whip is my weapon of choice.

Thanks!

firecape > ardy > sw if using rapier.

firecape > sw > ardy is using whip.

Fire cape is the best choice, even if you choose to turmoil/piety your tasks. If you need to pray both t/p and protect prayer though, a sw cape might be better, but that's still only if you use bandos armour instead of proselyte.

Firecape > SW unless you're using prayer in anyway actively, like turmoil/piety and protections.

Firecape > SW even if he's using turm and protect.

There is a priority of things in slayer, from highest to lowest:

  1. Being able to do a task without banking (inventory space & prayer bonus).
  2. Killing things quickly (gear bonus, potions, prayers, cannon, familiar).
  3. Getting major drops (crimson & blue charms, effigies, anything over 100k gp worth).
  4. Killing things cheaply (prayer bonus, extremes over overloads, picking up minor drops).

Basically, 1 is easy to do even in Bandos + fire cape, so you should never use a soul wars cape because 2 is of higher importance than 4. Only when two gear pieces have equal strength bonus, you should choose the one with higher prayer bonus (e.g. Verac's skirt vs. Torag's legs), unless the defence loss would require you to carry so much healing or additional prayer for protect prayers that you can't do the task without banking (usually only happens comparing Verac's skirt & proselyte skirt). For people with bunyips or soul split, this is basically never.
