I got a warning from Jagex for some reason. -Probelm solved.-

Featured Replies

I sent them a message about it, and to no surprise they ignored it.

I find it very hypocritical that they have problem with swearing yet they allow the option to unfilter it. What sense does that make?

I used the F word a lot, I will admit that. But I didn't use it against other players, all I did was swear at the red dragons and the annoying dogs. I'm not allowed to have some fun talking to those fictional characters?

The thing that makes the least sense to me is that when I checked the inbox I saw no message about it, and I had no warning whatsoever. Why would they send me an e-mail telling me I'm in trouble when I'm really not?

Please someone explain this to me, because I'm confused.

UPDATE: I already am convinced that someone was trying to scam me. And I changed my password. So the problem is solved.

Scam email? Jagex doesn't contact you via your email with regards to in-game offences comparable to this one.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

They can make it look like the mail came from [email protected]. That's how they try to fool you.

If you have done something wrong in-game, you will receive a message in your message box. Scam mails often claim "your account has received an infraction" for one reason or another. If you are not muted in-game, and did not receive any messages in your message box for your account, you do not have a problem.

The mail probably includes some link to a fake Runescape website, one that looks a lot like the real thing, but lacks the green bar you see on the real one for logging in. You can hover over the link with your curser and probably see that the link goes to the wrong place.

Delete the scam mail and learn to recognize them in the future.

The link leads to the real RuneScape site. But you're right, I shouldn't trust that e-mail, I will just go back to the game and have fun.

Be extremely cautious about this. It there are plenty of sites that mirror the appearance of the RS main page, with the url only differing ever so slightly where you might not catch it without closer inspection (eg. http://w ww.rvnescape.com)

You will pretty much never receive e-mails from Jagex about anything other than news about the game itself, and that's only if you subscribe to their mailing list.

Don't worry, I try my best to be.

And you know what, Jagex has a good reason for not allowing private servers, because they can be scam. I really wish they'd allow their players the option of making their own dungeon where they can fight any monsters they desire, and no one will bother them, but I know it's never gonna happen.

To add to all of the above, BlazeTMF, you should also learn to check the message source and headers. It so happens these days that Jagex will send from an "@email.runescape.com" or "@email.jagex.com" address, and the last hop before your mail server should be something like ".cheetahmail.com" when you check inside to see the delivery path. If you don't see all of that, the message is likely fake, no matter what the final product looks like. Also, make sure to check your status bar (or other such URL-displaying object) to see where links lead, and NEVER trust what it looks like on the surface. :geek:

Beyond that, enjoy having fun on RuneScape!

Thanks for the useful information, man. I'm convinced that those people are just some people who want to scam me.

I'm not allowed to use the perfect word here, so I won't.

I seriously doubt that.

You might also want to do a quick sweep for viruses or keyloggers. Just to be safe.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

True, but it could also prevent them from hijacking your email or online bank account access. Hijacked email doesn't sound so bad but trust me, no one wants to have to explain to their mother why she received an email from your account trying to get her to sign up for a hard core porno site...I know I certainly didn't.

I'm a grown man with my own computer, so I highly doubt anything will happen to my mother.

really? because the attitude you take towards computer security makes it seem like you're about 12...

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

You really overlooked the whole basic concept of email hacking and subsequent spamming there.

YOUR email gets hacked.

HACKER sends porno or w/e to all YOUR contacts.

YOUR mother is on YOUR contacts.

So your mother receives said email of porn or w/e from YOUR account and thus you have to explain it.

I think you overlooked a key phrase. The op stated that they are grown up so they dont really need to worry about explaining stuff to their parents. But the are other things to worry about such as bank account hacking that could really harm him

Being grown up don't mean a thing in this case.

It don't matter if your 45 yrs old with a wife and kids you're still gonna have to face the issue of explaining to your mother why she got a porn email or such from you.

I find it worrying that you value your time so little.

Wow, I'm amazed by how many people actually think I'm taking a video game seriously.

You want proof I'm a grown man? Go to my YouTube channel the proof is there.

However, you guys are the ones that are taking this too seriously. And for your information I'm trying to go to the gym more often to get into some shape.

Also, I know how to be careful. So keep on making those posts proving that I'm not the one that's worried.

Personally I think it would be better that this thread would just close, because I already got the solution to the problem. The only things people are gonna post now is telling me how I should be careful on the Internet when I already know those things.

Locked on request :).
