On which tasks is PPS with a +7 mage boost with arc stream better dps than rapier with extremes and turmoil?

I'm thinking Ganodermic Beasts, Black Demons (because of cannon), Miths, Steels (?), Black Dragons (?), and maybe Irons (???)

You cannot melee Ganodermic Beasts. Those cannot be damaged effectively with Melee and can only be maged, so PPS with arcane stream is your only option with those.

On the others I haven't been testing them out, but PPS's max hit is somewhere around 600 under ideal circumstances with slayer mask on task, but has the disadvantage that damage from boosted stats decays a lot quicker with magic than melee.

Ganodermic beasts, definitely.

Metal dragons, probably.

Abyssal demons, perhaps.

Anything else, unlikely.

Abberant spectres and dagannoth etc. are killed so quickly by your cannon that pps will barely decrease your kill rate.

Black demons and dragons may be more easily lured with pps.

I don't think miths fall into that category.

Maybe steels if you're cannoning, probably not irons.

I HIGHLY doubt black dragons are weak to magic, but I've never tried.

Black demon's don't have that much melee defense, so I'd say no to that too.

Only things I'd consider maging with PPS over rapier extremes + turmoil would be ganodermics and abby demons.

And in the case of Abby demons, I'd PPS + rapier combo.

The two weapons should be very very close in DPS, but rapier should be marginally higher (1-2% ish)

But, that marginal benefit is less than the time you waste running from demon to demon.

so use PPS to lure, and use PPS while you're busy looting.

And rapier when not multitasking.

That is why I was thinking PPS would be better than melee for black demons. You have the advantage of your cannon attacking multiple demons at once.

EDIT: I'm not sure if he's right about the other tasks that he mentions though, he could be wrong (as people tend to be)

I've tried it and honestly, rapier destroys PPS there. Only 94 magic but yeah I'd suggest trying both ways out and see which one you like best. If you're going for fastest, I'd say rapier.

Just based on observation, rapier beats PPS at kura irons quite noticeably. This is from a tiny sample, but I was using standard melee setup + ovls + turm and some dude was already in the room with 99 magic + max mage + pps + ovls (and when I asked him he said he was using augury o)... he was killing much much slower than I was. I'd be interested in testing on steels though since they have quite a bit higher melee defence; since I do steels now @ ice fort with cannon mage might be even more beneficial so I don't need to run all over the place (character is fat).
