Swiller2
I need 2k or so crims for 96 summoning so thought ct fiends might be a fast alternative to barraging lobs, as I have no interest in doing that. Will be using overloads, turmoil and Iron Titan. I was looking to give this a go this weekend and have a few questions: 1) Will not having a Chaotic weapon or claws be a big problem? For crush weapon I have a Zammy spear, no claws right now could have in a week if they are an absolute must. 2)Is the Chaos Tunnels section of the Waterfiend monster hunting guide up to date? I know the Tip.it crew is awesome at keeping up with new content, just want to make sure this is still current info/strategies. 3) Can anyone point me in the direction of a good video guide on the strategy of this method? I read in the guide about staying on the west wall, was just curious if any seasoned ct charm hunters could link a vid. Thanks for any help & input Tif! :)
The_Fray
As far as I have heard Zamorakian Spear > Sara Sword. It is essentially pretty simple, just watch out when you overload as you might get koed. Keep SS + turmoil on at all times until they are unaggressive, you might think you have enough health and then get hit an unlucky combo. The drops will make you break even or lose a little. There is no guide on tif that is up to date and with the use of overloads, just use the one that is there and replace extremes with overloads. Is it still better with the crush and def bonus? Yes, I was under the impression that waterfiends' attacks are magic based. The defence bonuses are more or less irrelevant. muggiwhplar
I actually just finished my first trip there in a while, using my new goliath gloves plus iron titan, ovls, and turm. I was using familiarization which lasted for 40 minutes (2 ovls), then I left. I ended up with about 345 crimsons in 40 mins, which would be about 173 crims/hour w/o familiarization. I'd strongly recommend getting goliath gloves.
Swiller2
I'd strongly recommend getting goliath gloves. I knew I would need to sooner or later lol, how long do they take to get on average? I played around a bit at DT the day it came out, that's about it. Cause as I recall it was you who was the one cussing me at base. Also, re-read what you just said: one 15 second delay (which is an exaggeration to begin with) ruins floor times? You are beyond ridiculous.
Lord Paul
I only spent around 7 hours at waterfiends in CT when I was going for 99 summoning. With 90,91,90 combat stats, turmoil, overloads, and iron titan, it worked pretty good even with me in black d'hide. I used zspear and took enhanced excalibur -- needed the specs pretty bad most of the time. I just prayed deflect range and flicked ss whenever needed. If you plan on staying for more than 40 minutes, you should bring another titan; I've had mine die before familiarisation ran out a few times. I fought mainly on the west side; be careful not to run into the halls as aggro comes back at around halfway to the other side. Working on max and completionist capes. 2435/2475

I played around a bit at DT the day it came out, that's about it. It took a good amount of time-- a few days. I don't know how many hours, or what my killing rate was... I just did endurance mode and while watching Youtube videos so the time went by pretty fast. I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7olhMkWgpE Made a few tweaks though... He recommends skipping bosses which are actually quick/easy kills, while killing some that are very time-consuming... Just use your best judgment I guess. If a boss feels like it requires too much time/effort, skip it from then on. D claws will speed up kill rates significantly-- a lot of bosses can get killed w/ claws alone. Quyneax
I'd go with ss if you just want 96 summoning quick, as goliaths are really only useful at very competetive bossing & wfs (perhaps wyverns). If you want to get an upgrade, cmaul is better for some other things (Bandos gwd, tds and pvp). On the other hand, if you want to get goliaths someday but not cmaul, you might as well get them now. Keep the fiends agressive to trigger as many helmet scrolls as possible. You should use Karil's (or even Ganodermic if you feel rich) and keep soul split on at all times. Void isn't worth it due to the aforementioned helmet scrolls. Powerfrog
Sarasword is better than the spear. I believe maul is still better, but it's less of an improvment than it is in ancient caverns, as with the titan helping and more overall kills/hour, overkill is more of an issue and makes weaker yet faster weapons slightly more favourable. Gloves and maul are both better than SS, and useful for lots of things in runescape. But if you're in a rush for getting 2k crims, neither are worth getting just for this specific task. I'd personally try a trip in karils and soulsplit, to see if theres an overall life loss. If there is, swap parts for ganodermic for the higher mage defense, you obviously want to wear as few degrading items as possible if they're not needed.
