I keep randomly blackscreening when I play RS. I didn't have this problem until I got my new computer.

 

If there is a way to stop this, how would I? Or anything to make them less frequent at least?

I can't think of much except trying different browsers, RS client, changing from DirectX/OpenGL, trying fixed/resizable.

I tried the client and rather than blackscreening it just closed. Switching from OpenGL to DirectX made me lag horribly, and I can't see the screen if it's in fixed mode. I'll try different browser and see if it does anything.

Indeed, fixed sucks. I had to swap for a bit to do the torch part for Firemaker's curse---- o boy :thumbdown:

 

Could also be a weird combination of different graphics settings you have.

I've also found that the RS client simply closes randomly. It's a real pain. Have you tried running it in SwiftKit? I've found that it runs better than in the browser.

I'll try using swiftkit if chrome doesn't work.

My entire screen just freezes randomly when I run around. Happens often when running to the Trollheim herb patch ..

The only configuration I know which reduces the occurrences is fixed window with software rendering, but even then I still get it at least once a day.

Swiftkit white screens after 20 minutes or so

 

Chrome Black screens after 20 minutes or so

 

Firefox randomly crashes when I play

 

Don't even know where to find the official client.

 

 

RAGE at java for just completely being [bleep]ing broken.

Just had a nice fit of blackscreens.

 

I was trying to catch a magpie impling, so as I ran towards it, I blackscreened. Logged back in, and the impling was gone. I see it again, click on it, run 2 steps and blackscreen again. Log back in a third time, and the impling is gone again. Go to return to summoning, and I blackscreen. I log back in, see the impling, and run for it, blackscreening again. When I log back in AGAIN, I was able to catch it and continue summoning.

 

In total, that's 4 blackscreens in under 5 minutes of playing. :mellow:

Its hardly top-of-the-line anymore, but I use an ATI 4870 on my computer. I used to get blue screens while playing (specifically while loading contents of the map) but that was driver issues. Since a fix many years ago, I don't think I've had a problem.

 

On my laptop, I also have a stronger graphics processor. No problems.

I had the same problem a while ago. But it mysteriously went away when i started using the downloadable client; it didn't even do the close down on me. However i could tell when i would have gotten a black screen if i had been playing on a browser because it would always stem from the same issue: Getting a large amount of lag. Say from running through the GE or something.

 

The problem went away entirely with both the browser and DL client when i started playing on my newly built computer.

 

But when i was still playing on my old computer, i posted a thread on here and got a couple of theories. One that stood out was that the problem somehow related to ATI graphic cards. Which would make sense because it my old desktop had an ATI card in it. However, my new one is an AMD Radeon 6600, and I've had no problems.

 

My suggestion would be to start trying 3rd party clients like swiftkit and try to find one that minimizes/eliminates the problem.

I think I figured out what the problem is/was.

 

My whole screen just turned black, then came back on along with a popup saying a driver was unsuccessfully installed.

its kind a weird.. not facing this problem tbh. But i heard from friends that it helped when they updated there drivers for the graphic card as well.
