Ninja-breadmen.

Iey was the smily cloud.(I really don't know her that well)

Rocco was the AT-AT at the door.

Batman and the LG/Pacman one was catch-all.

To be honest, though, I wasn't assigning names that much =P

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

"One does not simply fly into Europe" reminds me of the ending of Hegemony 1 when Grim nuked the European wall and flew over with 'cloaked' helicopters. Hahaha.

Two things in my defense, firstly; I built those nukes, damn it, I wanted to use them (and I nuked one hell of a lot more than the European wall, the hypersonic bombers that I used had orders to nuke their primary target (a large city) their secondary target (the Berlin wall (EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM)) and then crash at hypersonic speeds into a government building, armory or some such. Keep in mind that these were unmanned bombers.

Secondly, it wasn't just nukes that I was using, I had a whole damned system of orbital weaponry that, while it would be quickly taken out, would have been pointed at major army depots and such with orders to glass the place.

But, yeah I knew I was going to lose that war, so I decided to go out in a blaze (hehe) of glory.

Hey guys, thinking about a new hegemony-esque game for people still interested in that genre. I'll probably mod it during the summer holiday, so like three weeks time.

Set in space and you are free to create your own races.

I am thinking about having humanity as a NPC, to avoid people picking Earth, or setting it in a completely made up galaxy.

I was thinking for the research system, that seems to be quite the gamebreaker in most of the hegemony games there may need to be categories for user created tech, and then tech that is universal.

So when you create your tech you would have to say

Project Name

Project Class: (Offensive, Defensive, General, Civillian, etc)

Project Cost:

Project Description:

Project Benefits:

Project Research Time:

I know this system has probably be done before, but I feel it helps with the gamebreaking, cause it shows what the project actually does and what you get from it and what you need to get for it.

Budget and resources

Okay, it seems with MOST hegemony games, people are given a hell ton of money, and are like 'what the hell do I do with this?' you then run out of said money within a couple of days, and then have nothing to do within the next few days.

So I have decided to change this.

Instead you will all get small bits of cash every turn, which will be 1 day = 1 month. But cash will not be the only thing you have to use, as one unit of resource is boring and it means your strength is easily measured by the amount of cash you have.

Instead it will be sorted out to this

Money

Construction material (Perhaps split up)

Manpower

Special Elements (Perhaps split up)

Money will be used for general trade, and to pay your civilians to build stuff.

Construction material can be used for trade, will be used in the construction of buildings and space ships and armies

Manpower, this is the people who can be hired into your armies, not in construction unless you use a conscription recruiment method.

Special elements, these are for special things you can do, will mainly concern researched technologies.

War

War is also an important system in hegemony, because people just seem to steamroll the crap out of the weaker nations, and just have a stalemate with anything near your power level until one of you makes a move and everyone pounces, so instead I am going to change that.

You can declare war anytime you want, but it can have costly effects on people, such as, pissing them off. (This is to avoid people steam rolling)

Generally people are okay with you going to war with nations you are not in good relations with, but things they may get annoyed about are things such as

Good relations

Their allies

Their strength

How many nations are currently at war with them

The reason for the war

I will try not allow it to limit you guys too much, but it is to stop people from killing everything in sight.

Conquering may also be changed. When you take a planet over, you do not get 100% efficiency from the planet, it will build up over time, and depending on the severity of the conquer, such as orbital bombardment, that can even go into the minuses (to repair what you did)

Again, to stop steamrolling.

Roleplaying is rewarded, example would be what Grim was doing during the latest Roleplay, when he made leader speeches. Although, it is not rewarded like crazy, for people who just don't want to.

Opnions?

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

I don't play Hegemony because it eats anything I might have had that could have resembled a life.

And this summer, I actually have stuff I'm hoping to do, like maybe-possibly-if-I'm-lucky get my butt started on a webcomic of some sort. Because right now, I've got character drawing to the point where I'm willing to start with it, but my scenery is... not up to snuff. I'm okay on backgrounds, but I haven't made any serious attempts at scenery, crowds, or a whole bunch of other stuff that may or may not be necessary. Plus I have plot holes to fill, character interactions and details of settings to design, and a ton of other stuff.

And this is compiled with the chores I will undoubtedly be getting.

So, it's not completely needed, but I would appreciate it if you guys would annoy me every so often by asking stuff like "So how's the webcomic going?" just to keep me on-track.

Wow, that post got off the original topic FAST. XD

I'd be more than willing to devote some of my free time to this. On a note about the speeches, just do what seems to fit the nation/species/religion/organization/whatever you are playing as. Ritual sacrifices of virgins, democratic rallies, mass prayer, whatever, rping makes thing a bit more interesting for the GM, and the *last* thing you want is a bored GM (either the game dies or the GM starts screwing with you making up new and exciting scenarios...).

Right, my faction will be...

THE GLORIOUS PEOPLE'S FREE, DEMOCRATIC, REPUBLICAN, SEMI FREUDIAN, NON VICTORIAN, TECHNOCRATIC, MERITOCRACY, OF PHOQUE!

Phoque means seal in French(pronounced foque or something like that, I'm not sure how to correctly write pronunciation). But who knows, maybe a cigar's just a cigar...

I will try not allow it to limit you guys too much, but it is to stop people from killing everything in sight. Steamrolling is an integral part of the game, but I agree it should be limited. However, having the populace go "Oh no, it's so mean to pile on a nation and utterly destroy it" is just ridiculous. That is how the world works, nations doing what they want to their greatest benefit.

Conquering may also be changed. When you take a planet over, you do not get 100% efficiency from the planet, it will build up over time, and depending on the severity of the conquer, such as orbital bombardment, that can even go into the minuses (to repair what you did) And this is how you limit steamrolling

Roleplaying is rewarded, example would be what Grim was doing during the latest Roleplay, when he made leader speeches. Although, it is not rewarded like crazy, for people who just don't want to. Eh, roleplaying loses its fun aspect if it becomes just another mechanical aspect of the game

Opnions?

Put my opinions in bold next to the part of the rules that they relate to.

Regardless, I will be once again playing the Lichten empire!

Uhm, Retech, steamrolling does lead to major discontempt in a nation, not only because you go all out on a nation which would undoubtedly lead to an extreme hit to civilian morale and questioning of your morality, but also because that means you are spending a fortune of your tax-payers money on deploying a stupid amount of troops just to make sure it's an overkill.

Also, when steamrolling there should actually be a higher mortality rate just because of the sheer number of forces going in with next to no tactic involved. Friendly fire would be a guarantee instead of a chance.

I have come up with two brilliant thoughts.

1) The game is set in the past, and research is random...so Ico gets hold of a discovery timeline, gets a #of players sided dice, and rolls for each of the events on the timeline. (Can also do this in the Space-future setting, just requires a little more effort =p). So on turn X something happens.

Research doesn't do anything on its own...so discovering Steam Engines doesn't instantly give you a fully functioning railway network.

Since there is no 'Money'(see second point) you also can't zerge rush through and build it in 5 minutes.

2) No numbers. Countries instead have traits, like, for instance, 'Rich' which means your country is rich. 'Militant' means your country is militant. Fiddling with the Traits happens, either, at the mod's disgression or by the player annoucing Anarchy(takes a break of 5 days and all the Traits change).

Whenever you want to take on a project (like building a railroad network) the mod looks at your traits, looks at your research, looks at the global situation (Building a giant wall around your country when everyone is gearing up for war, for instance) and notes down how long it will take AND DOESN'T TELL THE PLAYER. The player can check back daily for progress reports which may speed up or slow down the project.

Other thoughts:

Roleplaying is fun, but should be reserved for fun (and maybe fiddling with global situation) and not have a massive effect on things.

Combat...No numbers, you have generals to do that sort of stuff. You just get 'Our armies heavily outnumber them' or whatever. Each time you declare war there is a random chance to gain or lose a trait. IE if you are 'Rich' you might waste all your money on an unproductive war. Or if you are 'poor' you might create a great Industrial-Military Complex and become 'Rich'. Or whatever. Therefore if you are a big, rich, whatever, country, with a huge army, you are less likely to go to war simply to claim a sliver of territory because they already have all the traits they want.

Provinces form regions. Completed regions give you 1 extra trait slot.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

And if I have a warmongering nation where the people are enthusiastic about mass genocide and want more space to live, then they should be thrilled?

"Oh no, we're sad because we're utterly destroying an enemy that we consider scum and inferior, regardless if we believe that they should be wiped off the face of the planet and replaced with our own offspring!"

Sure, discontent would take place if we lived in a society of today, but since we're creating our own races, why not?

Point is that trying to force the mod's view of politics is never a good thing.

Players will naturally isolate those that are steamrolling and ally with each other to defeat common threats, which is much more interesting that if the mod just says some stuff. I don't want to have the game played for me.

Say I just steamrolled Dusty (extremely unlikely, hence excellent hypothetical). It's not really a penalty if the other player's people don't like me, if the players are okay with me. And then if you started making the people riot because the players are dealing with me, that is kinda going heavy-handed with the mod power.

-----

Well Jews and Germans are both humans, and humans also have some limited forms of morality. It is part of our culture. Now if we had different races (like actually, two different species) that thought the other was inferior and needed to be genocided, then that is a different story.

I direct you to Dustymony, where Russia(Steamroller power) allied with France(Steamroller power) against Prussia(non-steamroller power).

Or Retech's Hegemony, where Spain(Steamroller power) allied with Russia(Steamroller power) and Byzantia(Steamroller power) against everyone else...who were not steamroller powers.
