Karil's also has 5% range soak which won't do much but still.Karil's vs. bcp is 71 mage def vs. 67 range def, bcp has 9% ranged soak so 4% more. So it's pretty much the same upgrade. Of course both ranged and magic defence get less useful as you get more of it, magic sooner than ranged.
