This week, you should notice a significant reduction in gold farmer spam. -Mod MMG

I actually did. I visited the GE on world 1 a few times, and saw quite few (compared to normal) gold farming advertising bots. That were working, that is. They were still there, but they didn't say anything. Small steps in the right direction.

I'm still getting the 3-at-a-time spambot PM bombings but I'm seeing maybe half the people at the GE spamming. The pm spambots are a majority so I kind of wish they'd get rid of them first...but I understand how hard it is to make their filters adapt to every scenario for them. At least the GE spammers seem to use the same junk all the time.

Okay, I have to admit, there really are a bit less bots spamming.
Hopped over 10 worlds and only had to report 4 spammers which all belonged to the same farming company.
The question is however, if they were identified as farmers, why weren't the accounts banned and still hanged around there doing nothing? Yep, sounds like a pmod work.

What happened to the alleged filter, any word on that?

Or just a system that mutes the bots automatically.

I thought that at one point they implemented an auto-mute system, but because people abused it by tricking others into saying specific keywords, it was removed.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

It wasn't removed afaik. That's why autotalkers use that unreadable gibberish.

I don't know if they got rid of it. They might have just worked on it enough that it wasn't as easy to manipulate/we haven't figured out the new conditions to automatically be muted

But it also seems to be fairly horrible at muting bots. (Obviously the gibberish is the reason)

I'm still sort of compartmentalizing the whole SoF/Solomon's stuff, but that Java/HTML5 comparison is pretty striking. I'm still looking forward to seeing Runescape's technical side grow; I remember having my mind blown back in 2001 when I found out Runescape was all Java. (Those were the young and naive days, I tell ya.)

The stance on bots finally comes out swinging, too; was just on and the U.S. West Coast servers are all down to ~80 players each. Hilariously, a good 25% were cutting yews.

Yes, on Friday (?) there were 60-70 players on a majority of the servers shortly after they had the update. My friend was muted for trying to say the name of a gold-selling website sarcastically, but that was several months ago.

Wow, I didn't know they were ddos'd. Has a group claimed responsibility for it yet?

Business ethics, business ethics, business ethics.

Don't step near a rule you've previously made in the past. Proceed with caution, Jagex.

Well they didn't really step on it so much as they did shoot it in the head and roll it into an unmarked grave where not even the buzzards could find it.

I would like for Jagex to reduce the amount of micro-payment promotions. They can keep the Squeal of Fortune and General Store, but please stop shoving it in my face.
Never blame a day in your life.
Good days give you happiness.
Bad days give you experience.
Both are essential in life.
