It should be possible, but your only option would be to to mage them. Yes, I know magic is your lowest skill, but your melee stats are simply far too low to melee them with any degree of efficiency.

 

Use slayer darts for your magic, if you dont have slayer, I suggest either Fire Bolts with Chaos Gauntlets if you are strapped for cash, Wind blast if you are not, mage all but Ahrim (mage Karil, counter-intuitively its magic def is laughable for a ranger), range Ahrim with red d-hides and Magic short. Alternatively, get your ranged to level 61 and use rune crossbow instead of MSB (equipped with broad bolts if you have 50 slayer, adamant bolts otherwise).

 

Due your low stats, you will probably need to pray against all brothers for the first couple of tries in prayer/magic gear. Once you get a hang of it, start maging them in melee armor for safety. Guthan and verac are the biggest nightmare to lower levels.

 

However, I do highly suggest you get your magic higher, so you have access to better spells and equipment. with 50 magic your options are quite limited, I suggest at the very least to level 70, 80 preferably so you can use polypore staff

Hello there.

 

Thanks allot for your detailed post, If I do decide to get my magic to 80, Will I need to have done desert treasure to actually complete barrows?

 

Currently my slayer is 27, would I need to level it up more? If so, till what level?

 

Also, what ATK/STR stats do I need?

50 slayer would be a good place to start, allows access to slayer dart and use of broad bolts, though your higher magic spells will eventually out do slayer dart.

 

Attack and strength of 80 or so is a good place to aim as a starting point, obviously higher the better.

 

Desert treasure isn't strictly necessary, but it helps tremendously with the Canifis house portal, cuts down your travelling time a lot. The blood/ice spells are also nice.

 

If you are quest fan, consider working towards Branches of Darkmeyer (quite high requirements, skill and quest wise), as it gives access to the Drakan Medallion, has a teleport that literally put you at barrows. You don't need to kill Vanstrom to access the teleport. While you don't need desert treasure for this quest line, it is a lot longer than DT, and has 67 slayer requirement as well.

Just talking to a random guy at the GE and apparantly the king black dragon is harder than barrows? Would you agree?

 

Also how much harder is the kal'phite queen than barrows?

With your stats mole should be quite good to try, Kalphite Queen is actually quite a lot more difficult than you would first think, as homer said.

Once you try a mole, imagine that KBD is significantly more difficult.

 

A properly geared and invent'ed character could kill lots (possibly dozens) of KBD on one trip, the same person, using the same inventory, might only last a handful of KQ's, mainly due to her nearly unavoidable ranged attack, which frequently hits around 200-low 300's, and when she (or the RNG) isn't in the mood, you could guzzle down a lot of brews/food.

Just as a fun note, it is possible to kill lots of KQs in a trip, it's just annoying to do because you need to ss flash a lot. Magic hits surprisingly well and blood barrage can sustain you.

Of course, the KQ has an average drop of about 30k gold, so it's not really worth hunting her anyway.

Hey guys,

 

Finally 80 mage on my main now,

 

Other stats are 71 ATK, 70 STR and 70 DEF with 51 Prayer.

 

I bought a polypore staff, what other gear would I need to do barrows?

 

Could you give me a full list of items please :)

Equipment


  • Head: Helm of neitznot

  • Body/Legs: Mystic or dagonhai robes

  • Weapon: Polypore staff

  • Off-hand: God book if you have, otherwise Fally Shield 2+

  • Cape: God cape, unless meleeing Karil/Ahrim, then obsidian cape or whatever you usually use to melee

  • Boots: Mystic boots, unless meleeing Karil/Ahrim, then dragon boots

  • Gloves: Barrows gloves or regen bracelet

  • Ring: Tokkul-Zo if you have, or Explorer's Ring 3+

Inventory


  • Optional: melee armour for Karil/Ahrim (chest and leg armour, normal and spec weapon, defender)

  • If meleeing, bring a super attack and strength potion

  • Optional but really helpful: Vecna skull

  • Prayer potions (since you probably want to do a few rounds at once, I'd suggest 2 or 3)

  • Food (lobsters or higher)

  • Emergency teleport

Basically:

Get your magic damage % boost up as high as you can: arcane necklaces, Subjugation robes etc.

Boost your magic level: Vecna's, magic potions.

Boost your magic attack bonus: Ahrim's robes, Dagon'Hai robes

 

Prayer bonus is less useful in the Barrows than usual.

You don't need defence bonus since you'll be using protect prayers.

You need a secondary attack style for Ahrim since you can't mage him, ranged is best, otherwise you may just want to ignore Ahrim. Bring a ranged top and weapon (rune crossbow works).

 

For the tunnels, praying 24/7 is annoying and costly so it's recommended to bring high-melee defence body/leg armour and maybe a shield. Guthan's and dragonfire work nicely.

 

So, your inventory would be:

3 armour switches for tunnels

2-3 switches for Ahrim

Vecna's skull, 2 magic potions and a ranged potion for Ahrim

5-10 prayer potions

~5 pieces of food just in case for the tunnels

A teleport (house tablets recommended)

Leaving a few spaces for loot.

If you're praying constantly (against the brothers and in the tunnels), the only time you'll really use food is if Verac hits you multiple times. If you're going to do more trips with your prayer level, you will definitely want more than just 2-3 prayer pots.

 

If you're going to use an offensive ring, you should keep Ring of Wealth in your inventory and equip it before you open the chest. On that note, a +1 magic/prayer probably won't be that significant. Tokkul-zo is good since that would cover magic and melee, although someone might suggest a Berserker ring for the strength bonus when meleeing.

 

An alternative to god cloaks is the Ardougne cloak (preferably 3/4) because it boosts magic and prayer. You should also prioritize getting done the Morytania hard tasks for halved prayer drain and double runes. Also, the teleport you get in Branches of Darkmeyer will boost your trips/hr quite a bit, especially when combined w/ the Ardy cloak for an easy altar. I know with your stats, this will be more of an "in the future" kind of thing, but it will really boost your profit as well. Otherwise, you'll probably only make ~300-400k/hr w/o Barrows items.

 

For any brother you melee, unless it's Bandos or something to boost your stats, I wouldn't bother with a swap. You can melee just fine in magic robes. Defender and anything similar is a must. Also, Ahrim's > mystic. The brothers have almost non-existant magic defense, but I don't think the extra accuracy would hurt. If you can/want to use dagonhai, you may as well for the prayer though.

 

Karil can be polypore'd quite effectively.

Subjugation is still very costly, but yes the % bonus would be useful. Just need a few more defence levels to think about getting it.

Arcane Stream, yes, Vecna Skull, yes, Ahrim/Dagon Hai robes, GOD NO

 

You dont need anything higher than 20 magic attack bonus for barrows, and praying against Guthan in non-melee defense armor will simply drag the fight out (he heals through prayer, unless that has changed since the last time I was there). Also, tunnels have plenty of things that you won't be pray on, wearing melee armor negates a lot of the damage.

 

The extra accuracy is redundant when you take into account the possibility of Guthan being dragged on, or the extra damage you take while transversing the tunnels. Melee armor ensures a greater breathing space while having negligibly small penalty.

Regardless of healing or not, Guthan takes no longer than any other brother to kill with polypore, in full Ahrims.

 

Up to the OP to see what is most effective for them. For me, with higher prayer and hard tasks done, I pray in the tunnels and don't care.

His magic defense isn't any higher than the other melee brothers. The only difference is that he heals. So his healing affect is exactly what makes it take longer to kill him.
